Efad releases ten-point plan to help promote films internationally.
The European Film Agency Directors (EFADs) has released a paper highlighting the need to better promote European films and increase exports outside the continent.
The paper, which includes a 10-point action plan, was put together after a roundtable discussion in Cannes involving the European Commission, film promotion agencies, national film bodies and other representatives of the European audio-visual sector.
The reports says that Europe has not yet reached its full potential in terms of exports despite being a giant market.
It also calls for a clearer and more co-ordinated strategy to boost this growth from organisations at national, European and international level, such as Media, Acp Culture+, Eurimages and national film funders.
Efad is the body representing the national film agencies from 31 European countries.

Canadian heritage minister forecasts rise in co-productions with Europe.
Canada has become the 38th country to join Eurimages and the first outside Europe to do so.
Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly said on Wednesday the development would likely spur an increase in the level of co-productions with Europe.
She added that membership would “further position our country as a coproduction partner of choice and give Canada a competitive advantage on the world audiovisual stage.”
Telefilm Canada urged local producers to submit projects in light of the country’s admission to the European Council’s coproduction fund.
Telefilm will represent Canada on the Eurimages – European Cinema Support Fund’s board of management and ensure the country’s annual contribution to Eurimages through the additional parliamentary allocation announced by Canadian Heritage in March 2016.
“Our participation in Eurimages is pushing the market boundaries for Canadian content,” Telefilm Canada executive director Carolle Brabant said. “This historic agreement opens up new channels for distribution...

“Be reassured,” former European Commissioner tells French film industry.
Planned reforms to EU copyright rules will not touch territoriality, former European commissioner Viviane Reding told the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Dijon on Friday (Oct 23), the annual conference of France’s authors, directors and producers body Arp.
“Be reassured, that the territorial exploitation of rights is not included in there,” the thrice times European commissioner and current Member of the European Parliament told the meeting.
“The only thing that is being reflected on is how to safeguard the rights of creators so they get their due revenues in the digital era.”
“As I think I said in Cannes,” she said, referring to a major European debate on the issue during the film festival this year, “I didn’t really believe in this so-called reform of authors rights at it stood at that time and that if it continued in that direction it would hit a wall.
