Robb McDaniels has a habit of seeing around corners. The Los Angeles-based exec foresaw the independent artist boom long before many of his competitors, when he founded indie distributor Ingrooves — since acquired by Universal Music Group — in 2002. After leaving Ingrooves in 2014, McDaniels foresaw a related trend: Artist managers were spurning record company offers for their artists, and therefore would require bigger “in-house” resources. With this in mind, McDaniels founded Faction, an indie conglomerate offering centralized, shared services, from office space to technology, for talent manager members keen to resist those early major-label checks.

As a producer, Denaun Porter is quite accomplished. In addition to producing 50 Cent's hit "P.I.M.P." and G-Unit's 2003 single "Stunt 101," the beatmaker, who doubles as a rapper in the group D12, has crafted tracks for Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Game and Busta Rhymes.
With all that he's done, though, for the first time, Mr. Porter has earned an executive-producer credit on Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" 's Bad Meets Evil Ep. While the distinction was a definite goal for Mr. Porter, he remains humble about it, choosing to let his work speak for itself. In fact, he's worked on many albums and sometimes didn't receive the credit that he's earned, and he's Ok with that.

Manchester, Tennessee - By the time Eminem strode onstage Saturday night at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, 80,000 sun-stroked fans had already witnessed workmanlike sets by everyone from Mumford & Sons and the Black Keys to Bootsy Collins and Buffalo Springfield. So it was no surprise that, when it came time for Em to do his thing, he decided to follow in that same model, eschewing flash and dash in favor of good old-fashioned sweat.
And sure, his headlining set did feature booming pyro, a massive (and frequently skull-filled) video screen, and some actual fireworks, but, in keeping with Bonnaroo tradition, what stood out the most about Em's performance was the sheer tenacity with which he attacked it. This wasn't so much a performance as it was...

Eminem is looking to thrill hip-hop fans once again. Earlier this week, it was announced that Shady Records will release a joint Ep featuring Em himself and fellow Detroit lyricist Royce Da 5'9", under the group moniker Bad Meets Evil. But fans aren't the only ones excited about the upcoming project.
Producers Denaun Porter, Mobb Deep's Havoc, DJ Khalil and Bangladesh have all been tapped to provide beats for the project and seem to be pretty pumped for the final product, which is set to drop June 14.
"The album is dope. That's all I can tell you about it," said Porter when Mixtape Daily caught up with him at his Detroit studio.

Eminem's new video for "No Love," a collaboration with Lil Wayne, premiered Thursday (September 30), and it sends a powerful message, in line with much of his latest album, Recovery.
The video debuted at 7:56 p.m. Et on MTV, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV Jams and MTV Tr3s. The track, which is from Em's double-platinum LP, is set to be released to radio October 5.
The single samples Haddaway's "What Is Love," and the video follows a schoolkid who gets pushed around the yard by bullies. He is shown with black eyes, which stemmed from being beat down in the school bathroom by the local toughs, and he eventually gets fed up. By the end of the clip, the kid toughens up.

Los Angeles — Eminem performed an electrifying set at Activision's E3 party on Monday night, crushing any doubts that he is truly back in the game after his long hiatus. The Detroit Mc headlined a massive bill that included Usher, Will.I.Am, N.E.R.D., Jane's Addiction, Chris Cornell, David Guetta, Deadmau5 and DJ Z-Trip.
Em's set kicked off with his first surprise of the night at the Staples Center, with Travis Barker jumping behind the drums for an acrobatic drum solo. Em joined him moments later (flanked by D12's Denaun Porter), taking the stage just before midnight. He was decked out in a black jacket, black jeans and a silver crucifix hanging around his neck.

D12 rapper Bizarre has played down reports he's fallen behind on his tax payments, blaming an outstanding invoice on an accounting mix-up. The "Purple Hills" star, real name Rufus Johnson, is accused of owing more than $25,000 to America's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) after his previous money manager skipped payments in Michigan and Georgia.
But Bizarre's lawyer, Jeffery Freeman, insists his client is working with officials to fix the problem. Freeman tells the Detroit News, "Mr. Johnson accepts full responsibility for this tax liability and is currently working with the taxing authorities to pay the funds due and resolve this problem. Mr. Johnson has returned to his old management team, and his tax and business issues are now being handled properly."
Bizarre's tax demands makes Eminem the only D12 bandmate not known to owe anything to the IRS - group pals Swifty McVay, Kuniva and Kon Artis have all been slapped...

It's so tight. I peep the way they do things, the way Em knocks sh-- out without complaining.

The news of Eminem's new album Recovery has got the rap world excited again about new music from Slim Shady. Based on his collaborators, it sounds like Recover will have a distinctly different sound than his past work. The list of producers on the album includes Alchemist, Just Blaze, Denaun Porter and Boi-1da.
It's the latter name that really jumps out, as Boi-1da is responsible for some of the stickiest singles of the past year, most notably the Drake smashes "Best I Ever Had," "Forever (Remix)" and "Over." But if the guy is going to ascend to the top tier of hip-hop producers, he really should think about changing his handle. Rap names are usually forever, even when efforts are made to change them (just look at the number of people who still use one of Diddy's old monikers). Detroit — To toast the release of Relapse, his first new studio album in four and a half years, Eminem celebrated with a mini-concert and record-release party Tuesday at the MotorCity Casino in his hometown of Detroit.
Em's 35-minute, eight-song set marked his first concert in three-plus years — and, by his own admission, his first performance since his well-documented struggles with addiction.
"This might actually be one of the best shows I've ever done," the newly clean Em told the audience of more than 2,000. " 'Cause when I get offstage, I'm actually going to remember it."
The rapper was sprightly onstage, opening with the blood-splattered "3 a.m." and jerking his body to pantomime the song's bobbing-and-weaving rhythms. Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg, smiled and watched from the soundboard,...

Eminem's Infinite

Back in 1997, Eminem recorded The Slim Shady Ep, the collection of songs that Dr. Dre first heard before signing him to Aftermath, and that would later serve as the basis for the Detroit rapper's debut, The Slim Shady LP.
But prior to Slim Shady's twisted, demented shock rap, Eminem was a battle-rapper at heart who was still searching for his lyrical voice.
His first album, 1996's Infinite, showcases the Shady one with a more measured flow and lower vocal register.
The hard-to-find indie album was made available for free download on Wednesday (May 13) on ThisIs50.com, the Web site founded by Em's protégé 50 Cent.

Latest: D12 rapper Kon Artis has attempted to distance his group from the sexual assault allegations levied against their manager Jeremy Geffen, by insisting they "know nothing" about his life outside the band.
Geffen, who was arrested on 13 March, stands accused of 14 felony counts including rape using drugs, possession of cocaine and providing cocaine to a minor - as well as two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.
The crimes are alleged to have taken place at a number of Hollywood nightclubs and Geffen's home between 2006 and 2007.
And Kon Artis - also known as producer Mr. Porter - wants to make clear the Purple Hills hitmakers are not connected to the alleged crimes.
He says, "One thing I have to say in regards to this situation with our manager is that in no way, shape form or fashion do these actions have anything to do with D12.
"We have nothing to do with his personal life; personally I don't know anything about his life outside of him being our manager."
However, Kon Artis has wished Geffen well: "I hope that everything works out okay for him, and I hope it is a case that things got mixed up... I hope fans don't take things the wrong way as we really don't know much about the situation."
Geffen, 35, is currently being held on bail of $2 million (GBP1 million) and faces up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
