CNN Films and BBC will take viewers inside the efforts of researchers around the world trying to develop and manufacture vaccines to fight the global coronavirus pandemic, in a documentary feature slated to air on CNN and BBC Two in the spring of 2021.
CNN Films has retained linear television rights throughout the United States and territories as well as Canada. Hhmi Tangled Bank Studios holds the educational rights. Global Health Reporting Center and Wingspan Productions retain rights outside of the U.K. and North America. Sanjay Gupta. CNN’s chief medical correspondent, CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupt will narrate the U.S. broadcast.
The film, called “Race for the Vaccine” in the U.S. and “Vaccine: The Inside Story” in the United Kingdom, uses access during 2020 to research teams working for. among others, Pfizer/BioNTech, the National Institutes of Health, Moderna and a venture between Oxford University and AstraZeneca.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for the third time as leading actor in his BBC role of Sherlock. This marks his sixth nomination for this category in his career.
Cumberbatch received a Best Actor Oscar nomination earlier this year for his role as Alan Turing in Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game.
The nominations, announced on Wednesday by actors Freddie Fox and Amanda Abbington, place Cumberbatch in a category alongside three others.
Toby Jones (Harry Potter, Captain America, The Hunger Games) is recognized for his role in Marvellous. The show received two other nominations including Single Drama and Supporting Actress for Gemma Jones.

Former FremantleMedia UK chief executive Sara Geater has won the race to become chair of Pact council in the organisation’s first contested election in at least 14 years.
Geater secured the most votes from Pact members who are qualifying indies, beating Nine Lives Media boss Cat Lewis and Outline Productions managing director Laura Mansfield to the role. Both will remain council members.
Geater left Fremantle in May and is now executive chair of fledgling drama producer Emerald Films, which is run by Carol Ann and Aileen Docherty.
In her manifesto, Geater said she would use her experience at C4, ITV, the BBC and Fremantle to help Pact “face some very big issues in 2015/16”, including charter renewal and terms of trade negotiations.
In January she will replace Keo Films managing director Debbie Manners, who stepped down after five years as chair of the council having served her term.
