Earlier this year when covering the National Film and Television School’s 2024 Graduate Showcase we watched Mansi Maheshwari’s nightmarish animation Bunnyhood for the first time. It was a film that instantly created an impression on us through its tense narrative and scratchy, frenetic visuals, which we described at the time as being like, “the scribbled drawings etched onto an old school desk come to life”. It’s no surprise to us then that the film has gone on to secure a place in the prestigious La Cinef programme at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It’s an inclusion which which we thoroughly back. Dn caught up with Maheshwari as she was preparing for the short’s world premiere on the 23rd May on the French Riviera to discuss her film, learning more about her lengthy process of cel animation and how her time studying at the Nfts has impacted her creative practice.

Guildhall is one of the most iconic buildings in London and still serves as the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London. But the hall itself has played host to many shameful moments in Britain’s past, namely the Zong case of 1781, where ship owners attempted to claim insurance for losing “cargo” after throwing 130 slaves overboard. Freddie Leyden’s Under The Skin of a Guild: Wake of Lost Souls – adapted from a series of live performances – is a compelling dance piece that uses extreme wide angles, heavy contrasts and loose camera movements to reclaim the space, fill it with a sense of Black empowerment and rob it of its awful legacy. We talked to Director Leyden and Performance Artist Enam Gbewonyo about getting permission to shoot in Whitehall, pushing the heaviest colour contrasts possible and how the UK has yet to fully live up to the horrors of its colonial past.

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3 as well as "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Zava: The man, the myth, the legend. The latest teammate to join AFC Richmond, the plucky team at the heart of "Ted Lasso," is none other than a fictional football great with an enigmatic presence and a flair for the dramatic. Zava (Maximilian Osinski) declared his intentions to join the team at the end of the season's second episode, right as he was about to very publicly sign on to the Chelsea roster. We don't know much about Zava yet, except that he eats too much asparagus, parades around in a man-bun and fur coat, and is able to easily hold the attention of soccer fans and players worldwide.
After the Richmond players and coaches hyped him so much ahead of his appearance, I expected Zava's role to end up being a bit of stunt casting,...
