Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In honor of “The Trip to Spain,” what is the best movie trilogy?
Richard Brody (@tnyfrontrow), The New Yorker
Far be it from me to choose between Antonioni’s non-trilogy “L’Avventura,” “La Notte,” and “L’Eclisse” and Kiarostami’s explicitly-denied “Koker” trilogy of “Where Is the Friend’s Home?,” “Life and Nothing More,” and “Through the Olive Trees” (and I’m tempted to make a trilogy of trilogies with Carl Theodor Dreyer’s “Day of Wrath,” “Ordet,” and “Gertrud”), but if I put Kiarostami’s films first, it’s because he puts their very creation into the action. News about an upcoming collaboration between The Chainsmokers and Chris Martin of Coldplay fame has only just been making the rounds on the internet, but the duo are already back at it to reveal some more major projects with A-list talents.
Speaking with Billboard during their cover story with the publication, The Chainsmokers revealed they will potentially be releasing singles with major acts like Linkin Park, Big Sean and Weezer. In his usually humorous fashion, Pall admits that he fielded a call from Linkin Park while on the toilet, while Weezer was forced to slink back with their tail between their legs after turning down an offer to join the duo on stage at Coachella earlier in the year, a distinction that eventually went to Third Eye Blind.

Third Eye Blind is a great band. People wrongly hate them because their first big song had “doo doo doo” in the hook, or they blame them for songs actually recorded by other artists. But Third Eye Blind was doing great things long before they hilariously trolled the Republican National Convention. Here are 7 songs that might make you like them. “Never Let You Go” has a Lou Reed-like simplicity, and is catchy as hell. But the catchiness of Third Eye Blind songs conceal lyrics that are complicated, personal and hyper-sexual. Also Read: Third Eye Blind Trolls Gop Audience During Rnc.

Following up on their massive set at Coachella, Edm duo The Chainsmokers have dropped a recap video this week to relive their experience at the major festival.
The clip opens with a narration from filmmaker Rory Kramer, who gives us some background on his history with the duo as Alex and Andrew swap demos. Clocking in at just shy of four minutes, the video features plenty of appearances from fellow artists and DJs, like Tiësto, Rozes, Daya and the duo’s surprise guest Third Eye Blind, who delivers a rendition of the well known song “Jumper.”
From there, the recap video closes off with plenty of the usual post-festival fare, including explosive shots from the stage as The Chainsmokers bring their DJ set to a packed tent.

I know a lot of people scoff at Third Eye Blind and remember them as "one of those bands that had a few hits in the late '90s," but they're legitimately one of my favorite bands. I also love Game of Thrones, so this musical parody that recaps Got through Jon Snow's perspective to the music of "Semi-Charmed Life" seems like it was made specifically for me.
Definitely don't watch this if you're not caught up on the show, because it contains massive spoilers through the end of the fifth season of the HBO series (as well as some Nsfw language, if you're in a place where that matters).

WayHome will be returning to Orillia, Ontario this year on July 22-24, and earlier today, the festival organizers dropped the lineup in its entirety. Set to be headlined by huge acts like LCD Soundsytem, Arcade Fire and The Killers, the roster is definitely looking pretty impressive.
Supporting the headliners are artists like Major Lazer, Chet Faker, Third Eye Blind, M83, Haim and many, many more. Overall, it’s a strong collection of music from a variety of genres and it should ensure that those that attend the festival’s second outing should find themselves having a pretty good time.
Tickets go on sale on February 16th over on the official website, so if you’re planning to be there, be sure to pick one up.

Because one major reunion stop is just not enough, LCD Soundsystem are also taking their restored act to this summer's Bonnaroo. The Tennessee-based megafest on Tuesday unveiled its initial 2016 slate, which also includes the likes of Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead offshoot Dead & Company (another reunion, which comes with two sets), J. Cole, Tame Impala, Haim, Chvrches, Big Grams, Father John Misty, Tyler the Creator, Vince Staples, Third Eye Blind, and Shamir, among many, many others and soon-to-be additions. Here's a poster:The comedy lineup is still in the works, but Judd Apatow and Ed Helms will definitely be there — the latter of whom is again hosting his beautifully Andy Bernard bluegrass SuperJam. Oh, and don't forget the special guests Conan announced late Tuesday night: Exciting! They certainly won’t be alone though, as they’ll have support from a whole host of acts, including but certainly not limited to Ellie Goulding, Third Eye Blind, J. Cole, M83, Zeds Dead, The Chainsmokers and many, many more.

Years before they became an Emmy-winning late-night host and global music superstar, Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake were just two dorky pre-teens sharing a room at summer camp. Or at least that's the hilarious premise for the "Camp Winnipesaukee" sketch from Tuesday night's Tonight Show, in which the two roomies play an awkward game of Truth or Dare, sing a glorious duet of Third Eye Blind's angst-filled 1997 classic "Jumper" and annoy their counselor, Mr. Fletcher (played by head writer A.D. Five by five. What in Caritas does that mean exactly? It's one of the more commonly used and irksome phrases used on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but quite how five by five equates with Ok is beyond the reach of my tiny mind. Possibly, it's some alternate take on a High Five clap. It may even be a phonetic reading of some ancient Sumarian meaning of “It's cool”. One thing I can say with some confidence is that Faith Hope & Trick is five by five.

There have been rumors going around in the music industry (and on The A.V. A '90s time capsule, if you will. So sit back, relax and throw on your favorite starter jacket.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.
Below, a final goodbye to the 90s to end the nostalgia once and for all. (We're not kidding. There are 1990 items below.)

Big dogs of both human and fanged varieties played big parts in this week's episode. Let's jump right in!
We start the episode running through the woods at ground level - either I'm rewatching Evil Dead, or we're in one of Bran's kooky dreams again.
Sure enough, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) - who can walk in his dreams, like the kid from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - sees the Third Eye Blind Raven, and he tries to shoot it with Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) help. He misses. He hears Ned's voice, then some bratty kid who looks like a Muppet Baby version of Tate from American Horror Story shows up to tell him that he can't kill the raven because the raven is Him. Is this like that "one set of footprints" thing?
Hey - speaking of Brandon Stark, it's time to catch up on...

Coachella is gearing up to take over California in just a couple weeks, which can only mean one thing: holograms.
Following last year's notorious Tupac appearance via a hologram projected onto the stage, iHeartRadio has conducted a survey to determine which deceased singers the festival should resurrect using this strange, controversial technique.
As it turns out, fans would most like to see Whitney Houston, who died in February 2012, reignite her famous pipes when Coachella launches April 12-14 and again April 19-21.
The top artists whose holograms should make an appearance at the festival, according to iHeartRadio voters: *Cue widespread outrage over the thought of any more holograms.
1. Whitney Houston -- 22.4%
2. John Lennon -- 19.1%
3. Jimi Hendrix -- 19.1%
4. Bob Marley -- 17.0%
5. Notorious B.I.G. -- 9.0%
6. Kurt Cobain -- 8.7%
7. Adam Yauch (Beastie Boys) -- 4.8%

Frontier Ruckus has always had a thing for looking backwards in time, and especially for mining the nostalgia of their Metro Detroit childhoods.
This Michigan folk-influenced band was formed by a couple of Brother Rice High School alums that first made their name playing to college crowds in East Lansing, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor.
Places, people and memories curated from a lifetime spent in Michigan have proved to be a strong foundation for the songwriting of lead singer Matthew Milia. The folky foursome even made a snapshot of Pontiac's now-abandoned Summit Place Mall (a total '90s mallrat destination) the cover for their second album, "Deadmalls and Nightfalls."
Now supporting their new third album, "Eternity of Dimming," Frontier Ruckus have turned all their musical tools -- banjo, singing saw and sweet melodies -- to one of the catchiest '90s anthems of all, Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life.

The greatest mashup artists don’t just find two songs with similar-sounding titles, smoosh, them together, and call it a day – they make ingenious connections between two or more tunes that seem as though they’d have nothing in common, combining them in a way that’s both totally surprising and perfectly coherent.
Take, for example, pomDeterrific’s “Call Me a Hole,” a crazy/good/crazy good mashup of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and Nin’s “Head Like a Hole.” There may be only one thing on which both fresh-faced teens and Nin fans can agree: This song is awesome.

And this is what the title screen song for Team Meat's upcoming mystery game "Mew-Genics" sounds like. Its official title is "Mew-Genics (Cat Chase)" by Matthias Bossi (whose work and site you can find here) and Jon Evans, both of whom will be writing and composing the planned 20-song soundtrack album for the game.
Evans and Bossi won't be the only contributors, though: Team Meat co-founder Edmund McMillen teased that we can expect announcements about special guest contributors in the lead-up to the game's release.
Here's the official bios for Bossi and Evans:
Drummer/Composer Matthias Bossi (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Skeleton Key, The Book Of Knots) and Bassist/Engineer/Producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Linda Perry) somehow simultaneously and magically moved to the same tiny fishing village in Massachusetts. When they're not making music together, they drink coffee and chop wood.

Charlize Theron might be a new mom, but she does not have a new man. At least not in Eric Stonestreet.
A report written by the Daily Mail claimed that Theron, 37, had fallen for "Modern Family" actor Stonestreet.
"Charlize and Eric get along incredibly well," the Daily Mail quotes a source close to the actress as saying. "They started off as friends but things are blossoming between them." The paper adds, "Eric is down to earth and funny and Charlize thinks the world of him. It’s early days but they’re very fond of each other."
Stonestreet took to his Twitter to address the Theron romance rumors.
I wish people would stop spreading rumors that Charlize Theron and I are dating. Its starting to make Halle Berry jealous.
— Eric Stonestreet (@ericstonestreet) September 23, 2012
"She [Halle Berry] was so cold to me this morning when she saw these rumors," Stonestreet joked on the Emmy Awards red carpet.

Now that their comeback has been officially sanctioned by Mother Monster herself, No Doubt should not have a problem reclaiming the top of the charts.
The first single, “Settle Down,” from their highly anticipated sixth album, Push and Shove, will be released on July 16 with the album dropping just two short months later, on September 25. To refresh your memory, it’s been almost 11 years since the band released their last studio album, Rock Steady, and in the time since, they've released a greatest hits album, lead singer Gwen Stefani was sweetly inescapable as she embarked on a massively successful solo career and bassist Tony Kanal produced hits for artists including Pink, Shontelle and even Gwen. Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young settled down and had a couple of children, as did Gwen and Tony, but apparently there are only so many times a rocker can watch...

I don't need any more "Call Me Maybe" covers. But a mash-up with Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass?" Definitely. Carly Rae Jepsen's No. 1 smash summer hit has been successfully melded with Lennox's 1992 hit by Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij, and posted on his Tumblr as "Call Me on Broken Glass." "This one is strictly for the lulz," Batmanglij posted. And here I thought it was for a Grammy. Jepsen's track has also been mashed-up with other big pop tracks with equally sunny dispositions, like Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life." As we reported yesterday, "Call Me Maybe" finally hit No....

Now that I've gathered all my tweets about The Voice, loaded them into a cannon, and fired them at joyless time-waster Christina Milian, let's criticize Teams Cee-Lo and Adam Levine like the withering warblers they are. Jamar Rogers: Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life”
Man, 1998-9 was all about comfortable, inoffensive pop rock, wasn't it? Everything from Vertical Horizon to Natalie Imbruglia was moody, gray-sky pop, and Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" sticks out for me as a sprawling cirrus cloud from that era. As such, Jamar Rogers' adequate vocal served the song well, but that's like saying he came prepared with an umbrella for a light drizzle. He handled the job, but the job was a...

Do not be alarmed. You have not been transported through a wormhole back to 1999... but it might feel like it. April 2012 is looking an awful lot like the 1990s. Whether you're at the movies, watching TV, or picking out your clothes, there's a definite resurgence of '90s nostalgia. For those of us who still remember the '90s like it was yesterday, it's a little weird that it's also, well, today.
First of all, there's the fact that James Van Der Beek is back on television. "Don't Trust The B---- in Apartment 23" premieres this Wednesday, April 11. In the ABC comedy, Van Der Beek plays a fictional version of himself -- a version that wears "Dawson's Creek" flannel and blasts Paula Cole's "I Don't Want To Wait" in order to seduce women.

When Titanic hit theaters the weekend of December 19, 1997, it only grossed $3 million more than the week’s other big release. That movie was Tomorrow Never Dies, which almost immediately killed the post-Goldeneye buzz of the Pierce Brosnan Bond era. The only other big release that weekend was Mouse Hunt, the third straight sad-trombone opening from DreamWorks Skg, which in 1997 was still trying to be a real studio (largely because they hadn’t yet discovered the winning formula of “Making Shrek sequels + Making Shrek spin-offs = $$$.”) But while those movies quickly faded down the box office charts in the ensuing weeks,...

It may be over ten years since the class of '99 walked the hallways of their high school, but it seems for Stifler, Jim, Michelle and the rest of the gang, the playlist hasn't really changed.
With "American Reunion" headed to theaters in a couple of weeks, details on the official soundtrack (via Film Music Reporter) as well as the full list of songs in the film has dropped, and it's a bit of jump back in time. Oh sure, the party-starting tracks most people expect these days from the interchangeable likes of Cobra Starship, Lmfao and 3Oh!3 feature, but it's the '90s that are here in full force. The Verve Pipe, Semisonic, Lit, Third Eye Blind, Montell Jordan, Boyz II Men, Montell Jordan, 2 Live Crew....it's like we're fifteen all over again. Remember Bic Runga's "Sway"? No?
