U.S. outfit Parmar Entertainment’s Daljit DJ Parmar along with Samir Gupta from India’s Impact Films and filmmaker Mohit Ramchandani (“Dreamer”) have acquired film adaptation rights to upcoming novel “The Muziris Empire” by U.K. author Hamish Morjaria.
The first in a trilogy, the book is set to be released by Pan Macmillan in summer 2024. It delves into India’s ancient history and its connection to the Roman Empire, unravelled by rebellious archaeologist Harveen Gill. Exclusive: Emerging producer-distributor Parmar Entertainment has acquired global rights to Russell Peters’ comedy special Act Your Age in what we hear was a seven-figure deal.
The special was taped at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena on November 23 and covers issues such as cancel culture, ageing and the current geopolitical state of the world, and includes Peters’ signature crowd work.
The show was the last stop of the Emmy-winning comic’s world tour which spanned 23 countries and 375 shows.
The deal was negotiated by Parmar Entertainment’s Daljit DJ Parmar and Cpi Pictures’ Clayton Peters. Parmar said the company plans to “make a big splash in the streaming space” with the project.
The special was directed by Peters’ brother and manager Clayton, produced by Cpi Pictures and Parmar Entertainment, and line-produced by Sxg Films. Executive producers include Russell Peters, Clayton Peters, Paul Canterna, David Higby, Keshav Purushot, and Daljit DJ Parmar.

A film starring Russell Peters will be the first project under a new $100 million, five-year, 10-picture production deal between Beacon Media and Daljit DJ Parmar’s Parmar Entertainment.
The new partnership will focus on action and comedy projects in the $10 million to $25 million range, with full financing from Beacon Media. The agreement also includes a seven-figure development fund in order to source and foster new projects.
Peters’ film is set to be written by Erik Olsen (“Floyd”), who will also produce alongside Parmar, Beacon Media co-founders Manoj Narender Madnani and Gurpreet Chandhoke as well as Navid McIlhargey. Executive producers include Peters, Clayton Peters, Paul Canterna, Rolando Zubiran, Luke Beermann, Pratik Tiki Patel and Ben C. Silverman.
