Few country bands embody the pirate lifestyle more than Midland — they’ve never met a bar they haven’t plundered. Now the “Drinkin’ Problem” country trio are taking their swashbuckling ways into international waters by partnering with music-at-sea giants Sixthman for a new cruise. “Midland’s The Last Resort Cruise” sets sail April 1-5, 2024. Expect lots of tequila onboard: The band’s own Insólito brand will be the featured spirit.

Last September, as protests spread across Iran following the death of 22-year-old activist Mahsa Amini, the musician Shervin Hajipour released a song in support of the movement, “Baraye.” The song instantly went viral and has since become an anthem for the demonstrations — which is why Hanson’s Taylor Hanson is encouraging as many people as possible to participate in a new recording of the song.
Hanson and a new non-profit, For Women Life Freedom, are organizing the massive project, which aims to gather 16,000 voices for a new recording of “Baraye.

New York — They were hooked: The moment singer-songwriter Jim James and his bandmates from My Morning Jacket first wandered into the immersive, genre-bending show "Sleep No More," there was no turning back.
The five guys spent hours wandering around the 100,000-square-foot warehouse space in Chelsea, visiting dozens of carefully designed rooms, following mysterious actors and generally having their minds blown.
"I've never experienced a piece of art like that before," James says by phone from Louisville, Ky. "The thing is just so overwhelming. And you get a sense that you created your experience."
James was so excited that he and some of the band returned the next night and he also came back a few months later. So it comes as no surprise that he picked "Sleep No More" as one of the stops on his new tour promoting "Regions of Light and Sound of God," his first full-length solo album.

Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary in style over the weekend with their two-day fest, "PJ20." Held at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, on Saturday and Sunday, Eddie Vedder and his musical brethren triumphantly ended the holiday weekend with a massive three-hour set, according to Billboard.
The show reportedly featured all of the classics – “Alive,” “Jeremy,” “Even Flow,” “Daughter” – but the bevy of special guests is what truly showed Pearl Jam’s influence and musical legacy. Scratching each other’s backs, the fest became a hodge-podge of onstage collabs. Vedder showed his appreciation for the opening acts: adding vocals and percussion to the set by Liam Finn, duetting with John Doe for his tune “Golden State,” mellowing out on Glen Hansard’s “Falling Slowly” (a song from Hansard’s Irish indie flick "Once") and rocking out with the Strokes on “Juicebox.”
Everyone obliged...

The pleasures of SXSW go beyond movies and music. There's also barbecue. After hitting some top spots earlier in the week for this smokey goodness (old standbys like Iron Works and new favorites like Lamberts) I made it over to Stubb's tonight where in addition to BBQ there was delicious live music from Bmi's Annual Howdy Texas party. I caught Austin's own David Garza kicking off with the fan favorite "Discoball World" from Euphoria. Garza's tight power trio gave a taste of what to expect at his Continental Club showcase this Saturday.
While the two films Sin Nombre (a dramatic mini-epic of a deadly journey across the Mexican border to America) and Alexander the Last (a mumblecore romantic comedy from one of the genre's masters) appear to be polar opposites they do have one thing in common: Men making women's lives incredibly complicated.
