Cologne, Germany -- Christian Bauer, founder and CEO of German TV production group Tangram Filmproduktion, died of a heart attack Monday. He was 61.
Bauer was one of Germany's most successful TV producers, specializing in documentaries for German public broadcasters. Among his best-known works are "The Ritchie Boys" (2004) about an elite U.S. intelligence unit formed in World War II and made up mostly of German Jewish emigres and "Missing Allen" (2001), a look at the conspiracy surrounding the strange disappearance of Chicago cameraman Allen Ross.
Bauer set up Tangram in 1994 and built it into one of Germany's largest production houses. Production partner Dagmar Biller will take over as head of the company.
Tangram has set up a space for messages of condolence on its website
Bauer will be buried at a private ceremony on Friday.
