Though the ladies of Hindi film music-dom impressed this year, it most definitely was a year for the men! With a mix of strong, powerful vocals, energetic beats that made you want to move and the heartfelt renditions that made you cry and fall in love without even seeing the movie, let’s hear it for the boys! Check out the 10 we thought particularly hit all the right notes!
10. Shekhar Ravjiani
Part of the killer and hit music director duo Vishal-Shekhar that have given us many a favorite song, Shekhar Ravjiani also is a fabulous singer. We heard him along with Chinmayi Sripada on the classic and oh so good love song ‘Zehnaseeb’ from Hasee Toh Phasee. Then there was one of our absolute favorite songs of the year ‘Meherbaan’ (unplugged) from Bang Bang. It really does not get much better than Shekhar and...

For the music of the films of 2014, the composers brought in classic voices, new vocal sounds and vibes and even an actress or two to bring their songs to life. Usually we limit our list to the 5 Best Female Singers but this year we had to expand to 10 in order to highlight their fabulous performances.
10. Shraddha Kapoor
For the first time an actress makes it to our Best Female Singers countdown. Shraddha not only shined in two completely different roles in Ek Villain and Haider, the young actress also showed off her lovely voice with two completely different tunes. With ‘Galliyan’ from Ek Villain, she impressed with her melodious tones. In ‘Do Jahaan’ from Haider she sang a Kashmiri folk song, about which director and composer Vishal Bhardwaj said, “After listening to the song they (Kashmiris) would want to keep you with themselves.” Perhaps one day in the future she...

So is the music to Hasee To Phasee worth listening to? Check out our review to uncover our verdict!
First up is ‘Punjabi Wedding Song’, a flavoursome duet by Sunidhi Chauhan and Benny Dayal. I very much enjoyed the up-tempo beats to this song and instruments such as the dhol drums have been well used.

Shahid Kapoor and Ileana pair up for Rajkumar Santoshi latest comic caper, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, releasing 20th September. Since time immemorial a Rajkumar Santoshi films boast of great music. Pritam paired with Rajkumar Santoshi for his last outing, Ajab Ghazab Ki Prem Kahani, and hopes to repeat the success of the album with this one. Does he succeed in putting out an impressive album with lyricists Amitabh Bhattacharya and Dr Irshad Kamil?
The album opens with Mika Singh in Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai. Its your usual fun girl-wooing track with some interesting choice of words by the lyricist. Mika’s trademark style is very much the essence of the track. You’ll either like this one or find the lyrics way too silly to enjoy. It probably serves a better purpose for an interesting picturisation in the film rather than an interesting listen.

Mumbai, Aug 15: Singer Chinmayi Sripada is thankful to legendary composer, singer and song-writer A.R. Rahman for getting her big break in the the southern film industry and calls him her mentor. Now her goal is to make it big in Bollywood.
"Of course, Rahman sir is my godfather. He gave me my first break at the age of 15. I sung a song for him in 'Kannathil Muthamittal' and won many awards for that song. Since then I have been singing for him including 'Raanjhanaa'," Chinmayi told Ians.

The music of director Anand.L. Rai's movie "'Raanjhanaa" has eight tracks. Since the movie is based in Benaras, composer A.R. Rahman has included the regional flavour in most of the tracks. Use of a lot of instruments in all the songs is also evident.
The soundtrack kicks off with "Raanjhanaa", a high on energy number. Sung by Jaswinder Singh and Shiraz Uppal, it is not exactly a sugarcoated romantic number but its rhythmic beats make you tap your feet and you may put the.

Easily one of the most awaited films of the year, Raanjhanaa captured our interests from the unconventional pairing of Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, and Abhay Deol and the earthy tones from A.R.Rahman’s songs. Anand L Rai’s fourth feature after the sleeper hit, Tanu Weds Manu, looks to be an interesting and swooning love story especially through its gorgeous music. A.R.Rahman was so moved by the script of the film that he immediately agreed to sign up and do the background score for this love story, which can only mean good things for its prospects as an awaited summer movie. Raanjhanaa has been quite the lucky project for Rahman after the mixed reviews for his previous Hindi soundtracks for Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ekk Deewana Tha. Yet, if detractors have pointed to a slump in Rahman’s output, then this soundtrack firmly proves his...

The soundtrack of "Settai", the Tamil remake of the adult comedy "Delhi Belly", doesn't have the cuss words and expletives of the original. The songs are catchy, hilarious and, most importantly, short. Each song is less than four minutes, and therefore holds the attention of the listener.
The opening track "Agalardhey agalardhey" by Megha and Vijay Prakash is one of the most popular songs of the album. Effervescent voices of the singers are strongly backed by extended bass beats played throughout the song, while the mellow tune of the synthesiser.

Gautam Menon’s bilingual (Tamil/Telugu) masterpiece Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (Vtv) and Yeh Maaya Chesave (Ymc) is finally being re-made in Hindi as Ekk Deewana Tha with Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson as the leads. The music of Vtv/Ymc, composed by A R Rahman, was given as epic a status if not more than the movie. So it was not a surprise when it was heard that Rahman would be re-making the same songs in Hindi with lyrics penned by none other than Javed Akhtar.
Edt has 12 tracks and features the vocal talents of Clinton Cerejo (‘Kya Karoon’ – Wake Up Sid), Shreya Ghosa (‘Chikni Chameli’ – Agneepath), Javed Ali (‘Guzarish’ – Ghajini), Naresh Iyer (‘Robaroo’ – Rang De Basanti) and Rahman himself amongst others.
Ekk Deewana Tha hits cinemas 17 Febuary 2012.
Kya Hai Mohabbat is the only track in the album that cannot be found in the soundtrack of Vtv/Ymc, so naturally its first on the list.
