There's a scene early on in Brotherhood, the concluding chapter in Noel Clarke's British Hood trilogy, in which his Sam Peel checks himself out in a changing room mirror after a rigorous gym session. He ends up sadly patting his emerging belly and you realise that whatever his original intentions for this series, Sam has become his Rocky Balboa.
Having played the antagonist in 2006's Kidulthood and then switched gears in the hit 2008 sequel Adulthood to show the difficulties of that character's life after being released from prison, Brotherhood ties up a lot of loose ends but also rediscovers Sam a little further down the line, much like Sylvester Stallone brought back his most iconic character in Rocky Balboa or Creed. Sam the character has nothing like the innate sympathy that the Italian Stallion evokes, but the connecting tissue in all...

“They don’t write them like this any more, they really don’t” says a grinning Ian Ogilvy, sitting back casually in his dressing room on the set of Sacha Bennett’s dark crime thriller We Still Kill the Old Way. The actor, now in his 70s, once starred alongside the likes of Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis in Death Becomes Her, and Christopher Plummer and Orson Welles in Waterloo – yet the talented performer admits that work tends to dry up, in what can be a shrewd and unforgiving business.
“Men and women of my age don’t work that much any more, and in Hollywood, we work even less,” he said. “So I’ve done other things – I’ve been writing books, plays, I teach, I direct – I’ve found alternative ways of making a living. Which was lucky, because the business dries up for you. If you rely on acting at my age,...

The Selfish Giant (15)
(Clio Barnard, 2013, UK) Conner Chapman, Shaun Thomas, Sean Gilder. 91 mins
In the tradition of Kes, or Fish Tank, this offers a child's-eye view of poverty that's too strong for real-life kids of the same age. Despite the fairytale origins, miracles are in short supply in this Bradford suburb, where two drop-out mates scavenge for opportunities. But the balance between harsh realism and mythical lyricism is beautifully struck, and the two leads really are miraculous.

Old-suited Knoxville and his "grandson" take to the road for Borat-style pranks.

Due out in cinemas this October, It’s a Lot marks the directorial debut of Femi Oyeniran, who’s starred in the likes of Kidulthood, Adulthood, and (the similarly titled, but unrelated) Anuvahood.
The film sees Oyeniran return to the world of the urban British teen comedy, and now a new trailer has debuted online to showcase what we’ve got coming our way a few months down the line.
Shaun’s a lucky boy – growing up he’s had the right education, parents that loved him and he’s never been short of cash. But as he gets older, he finds he doesn’t fit into this world, especially with the self-righteous and entitled kids at his posh private school.
Deliberately deceiving his family, he enrols at his cousin’s college where he discovers an untouched new world of girls, parties and excitement.

Hannah Murray has said that she planned on saying no when she was approached about a return to Skins in the Skins Pure two-parter.
The actress played Cassie in the first two years of the E4 drama and returns this year for one of the three stories for the show's finale alongside guest stars Charlene McKenna (Ripper Street), Daniel Ben Zenou (Strike Back) and Red Madrell (Kidulthood).

"There had been a few suggestions to bring people back and I didn't think it was her that they'd choose. I had a meeting last year and I had an inkling that Bryan was going to ask me to come back."

Variety reports that a new urban youth-horror movie called Comedown is gearing up to shoot in London for producers Dominic Norris and Gareth Wiley. It will be directed by Menhaj Huda, who previously helmed the praised coming-of-age drama Kidulthood, from a script by Steven Kendall.
Rocknrolla’s Geoff Bell (pictured), Red Mist’s Martin Compston, Dead Set’s Adam Deacon, Duane Henry and Red Madrell star in this story of six friends who attempt to set up a relay aerial for a pirate radio station atop a condemned apartment block, and are stalked and slain by a psychopath. “Comedown will be a tense and truly terrifying film that will take audiences on a journey with a set of characters they wouldn’t necessarily expect to be rooting for,” Norris tells the trade. Britain’s Av Pictures already has worldwide sales rights, and will be pitching Comedown at the upcoming American Film Market.

I guess I go against the grain when I say that I prefer to like most of the characters in a slasher flick. I’ve never been of the mind that you should root for the killer (the kills can still be fun/surprising without watching a collection of degenerates), and I’ll be curious to see how the recently announced Comedown goes about itself. After all, a story about a psychopath targeting trespassers could certainly go either way...
