Like the enigmatic Leonardo da Vinci himself, this lavish limited series Leonardo starring Poldark’s Aidan Turner as the High Renaissance artist, inventor and scientist is many things: a biopic of an insatiably curious and obsessively driven genius with abandonment issues; a platonic love story between the man and the model listed only as “da Cremona” in historical records; and, in a delicious twist, a fictional murder mystery. As the story starts, Leonardo is arrested for the poisoning of Caterina da Cremona (Matilda De Angelis) in Milan. Officer Stefano Giraldi (Freddie Highmore), under pressure to get a confession, begins interrogating Leonardo about his life and work — taking us back 16 years to his apprenticeship in Florence. (Credit: Fabio Lovino/Lux Vide/Sony Pictures Television) For show cocreators Frank Spotnitz and Steve Thompson, Giraldi is a proxy for viewers who may not think they care about the painter behind the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

As the global television landscape only continues to expand exponentially, one tried and true genre that shows no signs of slowing down is crime. From “case of the week” style procedurals, to longer-form mysteries and character-centric dramas, to true crime factual formats, the challenge for new series is paying respects to the programs that came before them while still finding new things to say. Now, rather than relying on splashy, outrageous crimes to grab an audience’s attention, creatives are leaning on and into character.
“The genre is popular because people like when these puzzles are laid out and pieced together in an entertaining, thrilling way. It can be very satisfying,” says Damon Vignale, showrunner of “The Murders.” “Part of the job is remembering why people have come to your show in the first place and not cheating them out of that. And of course, you want to bring interesting...

BBC Studios is developing a TV adaptation of the Runestaff fantasy novels by Michael Moorcock. The Good Omens producer has secured the rights to four books in the series: The Jewel in the Skull, The Mad God’s Amulet, Sword of the Dawn and The Runestaff.
It is the latest high-profile fantasy adaptation for the production arm of the British public broadcaster after Deadline revealed that it was remaking The Watch, based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, for BBC America.
The books tell the story of a resistance force trying to bring down tyrannical rule and follow Hawkmoon, whose journey takes him from ghost-cities in the Syrian desert to pirate colonies in the American bayou; from caravans of mutant creatures in Carpathian mountains to the heart of the Dark Empire itself – the glittering city of Londra where the river runs blood red.

The eight-episode hourlong original series (which previously was announced under the working title The Nine) is written by Matthew Parkhill (Rogue), Simon Maxwell (American Odyssey) and Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Dr Who) and will air in more than 50 countries via Fox. [[tmz:video id="0_a84xv6xs"]] Warren Beatty ain't the first guy to announce the wrong winner during a live TV event -- it also happened to Bruce Buffer at Ufc 205 ... and now he's got some advice for the Hollywood legend. Remember, Buffer incorrectly told Tyron Woodley he was the winner during his Ufc 205 matchup versus Stephen Thompson ... and announced the wrong information to a live audience. When Buffer got the right info (the fight was a majority draw) he collected himself and announced the correction.

By all accounts, Steve and Shirley Timmons were living the American Dream.
They had a big, loving family and a house on a lake near Senecaville, Ohio. Both 70, they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2016.
But their idyllic life took a tragic turn on January 6, when a fellow passenger at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport shot them both while in the baggage claim of Terminal 2. Steve was injured and rushed to the hospital, and is currently in stable condition at Broward Health Medical Center, a family spokesperson tells People. Shirley died at the scene.

[[tmz:video id="0_hwhdhrto"]] Ufc ring announcer Bruce Buffer says announcing the wrong result at Ufc 205 was definitely a "Wanna Getaway" moment ... but don't compare him to Steve Harvey! Buffer caught some heat after incorrectly declaring Tyron Woodley the winner over Stephen Thompson by "split decision" ... only to take it back and re-announce it as a "majority draw." Don't worry, Woodley retained his title -- but you could tell he was upset ... and it was definitely a confusing moment.

Ufc fans have seen this kind of thing before: A great Pay-Per-View headline bout gets scrapped due to injury and the top undercard fight just doesn’t have the luster for PPV. That’s the case for what was originally scheduled to be the Feb. 6 Ufc 196: Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez heavyweight title fight on PPV. Instead, the Feb. 6 date will feature Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson in a heavyweight matchup as part of FS1 Ufc Fight Night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Ufc 196 has been rescheduled for March 6 on PPV headlined by Rafael dos Anjos … Continue reading →

Once upon a time, the first weekend of February 2016 was playing host to Ufc 196, with a headliner of Werdum vs. Velasquez 2 for the Ufc heavyweight championship. Then, former champ Cain Velasquez pulled out due to injury last week. In his place, Ufc announced that top contender Stipe Miocic would fight, and fans rejoiced – many preferred this match-up to Velasquez fighting, as he hadn’t won a fight since losing his title to Werdum last Summer.
Of course, the story didn’t end there. Fabricio Werdum, the current champ, then announced that he was pulling out of the fight due to injury – but added a twist when he said that had Velasquez stayed in the fight, he would have fought through the injury. Just not for Miocic, apparently. It’s the type of thing a fighter almost never admits to, and it caused a huge uproar in the fanbase.
