Mike O’Malley’s Extended Family is no longer.
The comedy has been canceled by NBC after one season. It comes after the network handed third seasons to Night Court and Lopez vs. Lopez and gave Happy’s Place, the comedy starring Reba McEntire, a series order.
Extended Family follows Jim, played by Jon Cryer, and Julia, played by Abigail Spencer, who, after an amicable divorce, continue to raise their kids at the family home while taking turns on who gets to stay with them. Navigating the waters of divorce and child-sharing gets more complicated for Jim when the owner of his favorite sports teams (Donald Faison) enters the picture and wins Julia’s heart.
Its first season ended in March after 13 episodes.

Jon Cryer is returning to comedy in NBC’s Extended Family alongside Abigail Spencer and Donald Faison.
The peacock network just dropped a first look at the sitcom where the cast talks about their experience working together.
“It’s a throuple but not in the naughty way,” Spencer says in the featurette of the premise of the show.
Spencer also notes that she had “been admiring and watching Jon Cryer’s work for many, many a year and to actually be able to be in the scenes with him is really unbelievable.” Faison echoed Spencer’s sentiment about working opposite the Two and a Half Men alum saying “Is a dream come true.”

NBC, the only broadcast network to have original, homegrown scripted series on the fall schedule with The Irrational and Found, will also launch most of its strike-impacted scripted slate the fastest.
The network has announced its midseason premiere dates, which include mid-January returns for Wolf Entertainment’s three One Chicago and three Law & Order dramas on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
That is a month before dramas on the other major broadcast networks are set to return with new episodes and a couple of weeks before any scripted series elsewhere come back. It is a testament to the well oiled machine that Wolf Entertainment is. As Deadline has reported, the company is capable to start delivering new episodes after as little as two months if starting from scratch with no banked scripts.

Showtime‘s new direction of spinoffs and revivals is underway as a Nurse Jackie and Weeds sequel is now in the works from Lionsgate Television. According to network reps, both series are in early development, with the original leads, Edie Falco and Mary-Louise Parker, set to reprise their starring roles with executive producer credits. Although the projects are still being negotiated, Nurse Jackie will be written and executive produced by Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive, respectively, reenlisted from the original show. Meanwhile, Weeds will be written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series Rita, featuring the main character Nancy (Parker) in Copenhagen. A continuation of Weeds has been in the works for years, with a follow-up series previously announced in 2019 by writer Victoria Morrow. It was set to pick up with the Botwin family ten years after the events of the original series in an era of marijuana legalization.

Exclusive Updated: Showtime is looking to bring back two of its signature comedy series, Nurse Jackie and Weeds. Both hail from Lionsgate Television and former Showtime chief Robert Greenblatt who has a deal at the indie studio.
Reps for Showtime and Lionsgate would not comment but I hear the followups, now in early stages of development, have the original leads, Edie Falco and Mary-Louise Parker, attached to star and executive produce. Sources stress that the projects are still coming together and deals are being negotiated.
The Weeds revival would be written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series Rita, and would feature Nancy (Parker) in Copenhagen, I hear.
Meanwhile, I hear the Nurse Jackie sequel would be written/executive produced by Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive who were writers-producers on the original series. The concept is still being finalized.

Coming off windfall global licensing sales of Mad Men last month, Lionsgate is now digging a little deeper into its library to bring Weeds to market later this year.
“We’re readying our next big property Weeds for syndication in the fall,” Jon Feltheimer said Thursday after the company’s latest earnings report was released. Seeding the sales ground again, the CEO’s statement picks up on his own remarks last November. A further tease of the cash crop was made by Lionsgate TV boss Kevin Beggs in late May Beggs told analysts at that time the company was “encouraged by what we’re seeing with Mad Men and looking forward to monetizing Weeds further on its fourth cycle.”

Starz is “pretty excited” about the Mary-Louise Parker-led “Weeds” sequel series it has in the works, despite the fact Jenji Kohan — who created the original series for Showtime — is still not involved in the project.
But that’s not for lack of trying, as Lionsgate — which owns Starz and produced the drug drama — continues to talk to her about joining the followup series, according to Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch.
“‘Weeds,’ as we’ve announced before, is in development,” Hirsch told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday. “We’re pretty excited about Lionsgate putting together a great package with ‘Weeds.’ Obviously, Mary[-Louise] is a great actor. The world of cannabis has changed significantly, so there’s a ton of cannabis’ story to be told. So we’re excited to see what Lionsgate comes up with.”

Starz is working on a sequel series to Weeds, the Showtime series starring Mary Louise-Parker that ran for eight seasons from 2005-12. The news was revealed on Starz owner Lionsgate’s second-quarter earnings call Thursday.
Lionsgate TV produced the original series, which was created by Jenji Kohan. Louise-Parker is attached to executive produce and star in the new project, which Lionsgate says is in development. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during the call that Weeds and fellow Lionsgate TV series Mad Men will also be taken into the syndication marketplace next year.

An alumnus from J.J. Abrams’ Lost is on her way to the set of Fringe on Fox. In fact, we hear another Lost actor, Maggie Grace, also has a new gig. It’s for a killer new pilot. But let’s focus on Fringe, shall we?
Fans of Fringe will remember seeing a season finale last year that delivered the disappearance of Peter. Someone is always disappearing on that series. This time around, on the upcoming May season ender, someone will appear instead of disappear and that person is Lost‘s Rebecca Mader, who played Charlotte once upon a time.
For Fringe, Mader will play Jessica, someone who will connect heavily with Olivia. We’ll see her work beginning in the final two episodes of the season. And get this, producers tell TV Guide that Jessica is linked to the super villain David Robert Jones. She’s also a tough chick.

Rebecca Mader has kept busy since Lost, but fans of the fiery redhead have been without a weekly fix of her crackling wit and penetrating blue eyes since Charlotte Lewis came down with a time travel induced cerebral hematoma nearly two years ago. Tonight that drought comes to an end when Rebecca debuts her character Victoria Morrow on the latest episode of ABC's No Ordinary Family, "No Ordinary Brother", which premieres on ABC at 8pm Est. Weeds' executive producer Victoria Morrow has suggested that new episodes will reboot the show. According to TV Guide, the upcoming sixth season will see Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) and her family going on the run and adopting new identities. Speaking at Comic-Con, Morrow explained: "You have to reinvent the show. Now we're about to send the characters fleeing on the road so you have the opportunity to make new characters, new personas. You'd think between a serial killer, a drug addict, a pot dealer, and and a sex fiend that Showtime could find some protagonist to chronicle without all that pesky moral ambiguity.
But where's the fun in that?
"Showtime's Anti-Heroes" put most of our favorite leading law-breakers together in one panel with their respective producers and examined what it means to play bad guys defined by their consciences. Panelists included Michael C. Hall and Chip Johannesson of Dexter, Victoria Morrow and Mary Louis Parker of Weeds, Linda Wallem and Paul Schulze of Nurse Jackie, and Tom Kapinos and David Duchovny (seeming rather hung over) of Californication.
In between sizzle reals catching the audience up on each respective show and giggling at fans' repetitive and predictable questions, we learned a few new tid-bits about our favorite Showtime scoundrels.
Rob Lowe, Carla Gugino will guest star on Californication as a burnt out Brad Pitt-looking celeb,...
