When it comes to animated television, it’s good to be Netflix. That was the takeaway of Saturday evening’s 47th Annual Annie Awards, during which the streamer garnered major wins for both the big and small screens.
Awarded by the Los Angeles outlet of the International Animated Film Association, the honors aim to celebrate excellence in animated entertainment. The top prize on the TV side came in the form of the underwhelmingly named category known as Best General Audience TV/Media Production, which went to Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman” for the second consecutive year.
Though it took awhile for the organization to warm to the series, a scathing deconstruction of Hollywood centered around a depressive horse, the back-to-back wins suggest that even as “BoJack Horseman” heads into its final batch of episodes, it concludes as one of the finest shows on television.
Perhaps more impressive than the show’s...

Refresh for updates … Asifa-Hollywood is handing out its 47th annual Annie Awards for animation tonight at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Westwood, and Deadline is updating the winners in all 36 categories live as they are announced. You also can watch the action unfold with our livestream above.
The battle for tonight’s marquee Best Feature prize pits three mega-grossing studio sequels — Disney’s Frozen 2, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4 — against Laika’s Golden Globe-winning Missing Link and Netflix’s first original toon feature Klaus. Frozen 2 arrives with a leading eight nominations.
Just how will tonight’s awards factor into a certain trophy show happening in two weeks? Well, since the Academy Awards’ Best Animated Feature category was launched in 2002, 13 of the 18 winners of the Annies’ top feature prize – and five of the past seven – went on to claim Oscar gold.

“Take my wife…please,” goes the classic joke by Borscht Belt comedian Henny Youngman. In their new Seeso show, “Take My Wife,” stand-up comedians and real-life married couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher have given Youngman’s joke a 21st century twist, adapting it into a cheeky title befitting comedy’s newest gem.
“Take My Wife” is the story of Cameron and Rhea, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, two lady-identified comics who date each other. The series begins with their wedding night, then cuts to six months earlier, when Rhea is working a graphic design job she hates and Cameron is fielding podcast questions about what it’s like to be a woman in comedy. (“My favorite question!”)
