The recent Berlin world premiere from Terence Malick’s longtime collaborator Aj Edwards premiered in Sundance and screened in Berlin.
Amplify will release the impressionistic black and white tale of Abraham Lincoln’s early childhood theatrically in autumn followed by VOD and home video release in early 2015.
Edwards worked as an editor on Malick’s The New World, second unit director and editor on The Tree Of Life, To The Wonder, and the upcoming Knight Of Cups.
“I am humbled by the passion Amplify has shown for The Better Angels since its premiere,” said Edwards, who spoke to Screendaily about the film shortly before its Sundance world premiere. “Our team is so glad this great company will be shepherding our film.”
Malick produced alongside Nicolas Gonda, Jake DeVito and Charley Beil.

Here’s what we know on A.J. Edwards. He’s worked in the editor capacity on The New World and To the Wonder and was an “artistic consultant” on The Tree of Life. The Terrence Malick magic-hour stamp of approval will certainly help along in determining where the formerly titled The Green Blade Rises lands in 2014′s film fest circuit (Malick is among the producers on the film as well) and while I wouldn’t call Park City the lieu for presidential biopics, they are prime place for filmmaker debuts. Production on The Better Angels took place in late September of 2012, so one year’s worth of post-production time for a filmmaker with a background in editing means he has time to find his film (if the film needs finding that is). With a small news blurb stating that Zbigniew Preisner helped affix the film’s score. Diane Kruger, Wes Bentley,...

Another Lincoln-centric film, The Green Blade Rises, the directorial debut of Aj Edwards is already in the works.
Brit Marling (Another Earth) and Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games) have joined the cast of upcoming feature film about Honest Abe’s formative years – Bentley will play the President’s first teacher, while Marling will play Lincoln’s biological mother Nancy who passed away when he was nine.
They join Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Jason Clarke (Public Enemies), who are already on-board as Lincoln’s step-mother and father.
Edwards worked with Terrence Malick as an editor on The New World, The Tree of Life, and To the Wonder, so it’s no wonder why Malick agreed to produce Edwards directorial debut with the original script he also wrote.
The role of a baby boy Abraham Lincoln has not yet been cast, but with filming to take place this fall, we’ll soon find out.

Exclusive: Jason Clarke is in negotiations to play the male lead in the Terrence Malick-produced The Green Blade Rises. He will play Tom Lincoln, the father of Abraham Lincoln. The film tells of the formative years of the 16th U.S. president and the hardships that shape him including abandonment by his father in the harsh winter wilderness, a tragedy that marked him forever, and the two women who guided him to immortality. Clarke’s character has a callous, quiet demeanor, verbally and physically abusive towards Abe on many occasions, but lets his son know how proud he is of him. He is married to Sarah Lincoln (played by Diane Kruger), Abe’s beautiful stepmother. It is another big role for the rising Australian actor. News and Notes Diane Kruger is set to star in yet another Abraham Lincoln movie. The Green Blade Rises sounds more like a kung-fu action movie, but instead, finds Kruger portraying Sarah Lincoln, Abe's gorgeous stepmother. The film is being produced by Terrance Malick along with Nicolas Gonda and Charley Beil and tells the story of Lincoln's relationship with the two women in his life who guided him to immortality (figuratively speaking). The story will span three formative years of Abe's life in the vast wilderness of Indiana. The film is being shot in black and white and production is set to begin in the fall. Steven Spielberg's take on Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis will arrive in theaters on November 9 and the Tim Burton produced popcorn flick Abraham...

Wait - what? Even though he didn't do so well as a vampire hunter, and hasn't yet been teased in Spielberg's interpretation, Abraham Lincoln is still a hot historical figure at the moment. Deadline is reporting that our 16th U.S. President is getting another movie centered around him and his life, in a project called The Green Blade Rises, in the works with some interesting names behind it. Apparently filmmaker Terrence Malick, of all people, is producing with Nicolas Gonda and Charley Beil, who work with and have produced Malick's other recent films. That's not all - they've cast at least one of the lead female roles in the B&W film. International actress Diane Kruger (of National Treasure, Inglourious Basterds, Mr. Nobody, Unknown, The Host) has been set to play Sarah Lincoln, "Abe's beautiful stepmother", in the film, being directed by A.J. Edwards, who also wrote the script.
