Return to the Suck Zone It’s been 28 years since Jan de Bont’s Twister stormed through cinemas, grossing $496 million worldwide. While it became a staple of weekend cable TV, with audiences often enjoying its weather spectacles over its thin plot, its impact on meteorology and storm chasing is undeniable. The original movie starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton left a significant mark on pop culture. The sequel, Twisters, endured a long development process before Universal landed on a team led by Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung and The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith. Chung’s direction, informed by the stylistic influences of

A new trailer for Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters has landed on Youtube and it has a fiery mega-tornado. Need we say more? Watch the new Twisters trailer below.
We didn’t really need much more convincing to see this summer’s windiest blockbuster Twisters, but the new trailer has sold us on the film even more.
Fire tornado. That’s all we’ll say.
Here’s the new Twisters trailer:
Our original story follows:
12th February, 2024: One of the summer blockbusters that made it through the strike-affected times of last year without any further delay? That’d be Twisters, the sequel to the huge 1996 hit movie Twister. That’d be the one with all the wind, and the flying cow. You remember, right?
It’s taken decades to get to this point, but this summer, we get a sequel to the film. It’s cunningly going by the name of Twisters,...

Being from the Midwest myself (and even facing tornado warnings in the past few weeks), it seems that the severe storms will be hitting no matter what as the spiritual sequel to Twister touches down in theaters this July. This year has seen some crazy tornadic activity for states like Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. However, Lee Issac Chung’s Twisters is taking them to a whole new level. Universal Pictures has just released the new three-minute trailer for the summer thrill ride, looking to outdo any of the cyclones that Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt encountered in the 1996 original. This time Daisy Edgar-Jones partners up with the “Tornado Wrangler,” played by Glen Powell.
The official synopsis reads, “Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

It's been 28 years since Jan De Bont's "Twister" ripped through theaters and whipped up a $496 million worldwide gross. In the meantime, it's become a weekend cable mainstay, where viewers can tune out its wafer-thin plot and simply enjoy the foul weather spectacle. It's far from a classic, but its visual prowess is undeniable, and its colorful cast of storm chasers led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt seem to be having a ball. Any film that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Todd Field, and Lois Smith is bound to be fun on some level.
So why has it taken so long for Universal to make a sequel to the second-highest-grossing film (domestically) of 1996?
"Twisters" didn't exactly have a stormy development process, but it did go through a couple of iterations over the last four years. Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct in early 2020. When that fell through,...

Twisters might be all tornadoes wrecking the Earth, but at the heart of it is a good banter romance, and that’s what Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell have got going on in the latest trailer shown Wednesday at CinemaCon.
That gal-guy back and forth was what was also at the heart of the original 1996 Twister movie starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.
“You think you can interrupt a tornado,” Powell’s cowboy tornado chaser asks Edgar-Jones’ city girl.
“In theory,” she answers, “in the field and in the moment, I got it wrong. We never had a chance.”
“You want one?” Powell asks, giving her an invitation for a good time.

Director Lee Isaac Chung introduced the footage today during Universal’s presentation at Caesars Colosseum for what he said was his first CinemaCon.

There are plenty of ways to describe what happened at Caesars Palace on Wednesday when Universal Pictures delivered Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters to the Colosseum stage. Some examples: The film whipped up a frenzy; exclusive footage spun through Sin City; action scenes blew away theater owners, etc., etc.
All of the above work as Universal debuted never-before-seen scenes of the summer release courtesy of Chung and his castmembers Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, who turned up for an extended introduction.
Chung was first to walk out — an appearance that marked his first time at CinemaCon — and the director said that many in the audience might be wondering why he decided to jump into summer blockbuster tentpole territory after carving out a career in independent film. “I’ve been fascinated by tornadoes all my life,” he said, adding that he grew up in Arkansas, where tornadoes were just a way of life.

Could “Anyone But You” co-stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney be the next Julia Roberts and George Clooney? The disaster film Twister (watch it Here) was a massive success for Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment when it was released during the summer movie season in 1996. Made on a budget of $90 million, it earned almost $500 million at the global box office and ranked as the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. Quickly cashing in with a sequel would have made a lot of sense. But while there were rumors – including a memorable one that said the sequel would involve a tornado hitting a major city – a follow-up never made it into production. Until now. Universal and Amblin are reviving the Twister IP with a film called Twisters, which is set to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Twenty-eight years later, will it be able to replicate or surpass the success of its predecessor? We’ll have to wait and see. But for know, we’re going to...

“Don’t breathe. Don’t look back,” commanded the tagline for the movie Twister from 1996. Apparently, that’s not a warning that Universal Pictures wants to heed. Instead, they’re looking back to the ’90s with a new adventure about storm chasers and the flying cows in their wake with the upcoming sequel Twisters.
That said, first trailer for Twisters features no familiar faces. Not only do we see no characters played by actors who sadly passed in the interim, such as Bill Paxton’s Bill or Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Rusty, but also missing is Helen Hunt’s protagonist Jo.
In their place is a new cast, primarily Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) as Kate Cooper and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Tyler Owens. Based on the trailer, the script by Mark L. Smith focuses on the braggart Tyler luring Kate back into the world of stormchasing after an expedition gone wrong.

The first trailer for the upcoming non-sequel Twisters has arrived, taking the Super Bowl by storm during its debut.
After a brief teaser during Super Bowl Lviii, the Twisters trailer hit the web, with the ominous warning that, “Whatever’s in there, it’s big and it’s moving fast.” We then get a hype call and response of, “If you’re feelin’ it” … “Chase it!” – which we have to admit would make a great tagline! The action only amplifies, with the warning that the team will be facing off against twin twisters, hence the movie’s title.
But lest you think this is a direct sequel to 1996’s Oscar-nominated Twister, you’ll notice that none of the surviving original cast members – Helen Hunt, Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz, and more – were featured. That’s because Universal’s Twisters doesn’t rely as much on the original as you’d think,...

Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos star in the new chapter to the 1996 box office hit. Lee Isaac Chung is on board to direct from a script by Mark L. Smith. The film is co-financed by Warner Bros.
Supporting cast includes Kiernan Shipka, David Corenswet, Daryl McCormack, Sasha Lane, Maura Tierney and Katy O’Brian.
Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, the original Twister was a massive hit in 1996, scoring almost $500M at the worldwide box office, thanks in no small part to the film’s groundbreaking special effects. Pic was helmed by Speed director Jan De Bont and executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, with a screenplay by author Michael Crichton.

All anybody wants to talk about these days is flooding, winter vortexes, and other natural disasters stemming from the ongoing climate crisis. Well, apparently, the tornado from "Twister" got wind of this (I'm sorry) and is back with a vengeance in the newly unveiled Super Bowl trailer for "Twisters."
Neither a direct follow-up to director Jan de Bont's 1996 natural disaster thriller nor a complete reboot of the franchise, "Twisters" follows a new team of storm chasers as they battle destructive cyclones in the present day. Apparently, at one point, "Twister" star Helen Hunt and "Blindspotting" co-writers/co-stars Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal pitched a proper legacy sequel that, according to Hunt, would've focused on "all Black and Brown storm chasers." However, the studio powers that be didn't go for it for "potentially shady" reasons, as Diggs told Business Insider last year.

Smith, the scribe behind “The Revenant” (with Alejandro G. Iñárritu) and director George Clooney’s Netflix sci-fi “The Midnight Sky.” Chung’s film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos, with Universal releasing the picture on July 19, 2024 in the United States.
Plans for a “Twisters” follow-up have been in the works for half a decade, with Helen Hunt pitching a sequel about a diverse set of storm chasers that she said the studio rejected.

“Star Trek” turnover is not particularly rare, and ever since 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” the last “Star Trek” movie released theatrically, Paramount has struggled to get a new film off the ground. There was an idea from Quentin Tarantino that “The Revenant” writer Mark L. Smith wrote that never got made, “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman was supposed to make a version of “Star Trek 4,” “Avatar: The Way of Water” writer Josh Friedman & Cameron Squires wrote a version, and “Fargo” showrunner/writer/director Noah Hawley wrote a version that never got made either (a new version is in the works too; potentially two).

The Golden Globes nominated five films this year for both director and screenplay. The Globes only offer one screenplay category rather than splitting into two with original and adapted like most other awards groups. This means that if your film gets into this category, they really, really love your writing.
Writing and directing seem like they would be paired together often but the two awards have only been awarded to the same film once in the last decade. That was in 2017 when Damien Chazelle won both awards for “La La Land,” which also won Best Comedy/Musical Picture. The other nine years saw a split. Here’s the breakdown.
In 2014, Spike Jonze won Best Screenplay for “Her” while Alfonso Cuarón emerged victorious in the directing race for “Gravity.” The year later, Richard Linklater took home Best Director for “Boyhood” while four writers won for “Birdman:” Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone,...

Glen Powell has revealed in an interview with Vogue that a new Twister film is coming. It’s not a sequel and not a reboot of the 1996 film starring Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton.
1996’s Twister earned more than $494 million at the global box office.
“We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one,” Powell said. “It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern day.”
Filming wrapped “a couple of nights ago,” he added. “I don’t think anyone has brought up this movie in forever, but talking to people, they’re like, ‘That was one of my favorite movies growing up. That movie terrified me,’ ” he said.
Powell said the general theme of the new Twister film will appeal to audiences.

Screenwriter Mark L Smith has revealed details of the violent, sweary script he penned in collaboration with Tarantino for Captain Kirk and co – and explained why it probably won’t get made
Not so long ago, the idea of Quentin Tarantino making a Star Trek movie seemed as far out as a tribble one day captaining the starship Enterprise. Perhaps that’s why Qt shelved his long-mooted “R-rated”, ultra-violent take on the Apollo-era optimism of Gene Roddenberry – or perhaps he just figured he had other projects worth prioritising.
Back in 2017, Tarantino publicly pitched the idea of a feature-length riff on the 1968 original series episode A Piece of the Action, which is set on an Earth-like planet where a 1930s gangster culture prevails. At the time, the space saga was in mainstream blockbuster mode on the big screen, thanks to the series of JJ Abrams-produced films, and was just beginning...

Smith (The Boys in the Boat) was brought in to write the script based on Tarantino’s ideas, and he recently told Collider that it would have been a “hard R” movie filled with Tarantino’s typical flair.
“I think his vision was just to go hard. It was a hard R,” Smith said. “It was going to be some Pulp Fiction violence. Not a lot of the language, we saved a couple things for just special characters to kind of drop that into the Star Trek world, but it was just really the edginess and the kind of that Tarantino flair, man, that he was bringing to it. It would have been cool.

Quentin Tarantino fans were sent into a frenzy in late 2017 after it was announced that Paramount and “Star Trek” producer J.J. Abrams had accepted Tarantino’s pitch for a new “Star Trek” movie and were working with “The Revenant” screenwriter Mark L. Smith to iron out the script. The project ultimately never got made, but Smith recently told Collider while promoting his latest project, the George Clooney-directed drama “The Boys in the Boat,” that it would’ve been “the greatest ‘Star Trek’ film.”
“Quentin and I went back and forth, he was gonna do some stuff on it, and then he started worrying about the number, his kind of unofficial number of films,” Smith said. “I remember we were talking, and he goes, ‘If I can just wrap my head around the idea that ‘Star Trek’ could be my last movie, the last thing I ever do. Is this...

Quentin Tarantino will not direct his much talked about Star Trek movie. We have known that for a while, with the iconoclastic filmmaker moving away from the project back in late 2019 and following the release of his last film, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. But now as Tarantino edges close to lensing his fabled final film, we are getting some better insight into the starship that got away.
In a new interview with Collider, screenwriter Mark L. Smith, the Oscar-nominated scribe who co-wrote The Revenant with Alejandro G. Inárritu, and who’s next film is the George Clooney-directed The Boys in the Boat, opened up about the Qt Star Trek film he was brought in to write, and how it would have been a whole different kind of captain’s log.
“It was a different thing,” Smith said, “but this was such a particular different type of story...

Exclusive: In a tense moment during the protracted SAG-AFTRA strike when guild negotiators weren’t talking to studios/streamers as film workers faced home foreclosures with no paychecks for six months and no end in sight, George Clooney led other top A-listers in offering to uncap dues and contribute $150 million over three years to guild coffers to help qualify more actors for health benefits and other things. While he has long enjoyed the spoils of an above the line life, Clooney has never forgotten the struggling showbiz underclass he was part of before ER changed his life.
Just in time for Christmas, Clooney taps squarely into those themes with his new film The Boys in the Boat. An adaptation of the Daniel James Brown bestseller, the film tells the underdog story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that came together under a stern coach who promised those who...

Quentin Tarantino’s scrapped “Star Trek” film might have been the casualty of being Tarantino’s 10th movie.
The director, who announced his 10th and allegedly final film as “The Critic,” previously hinted at a possible R-rated “Star Trek” film installment, written by “The Boys in the Boat” screenwriter Mark L. Smith. Smith has called the script a space-set “gangster movie” and now revealed to Collider that the film was going to have “Pulp Fiction”-level violence. However, Tarantino opted not to have his final movie be one he did not write and also a franchise film. Tarantino has long promised to pivot his career after completing 10 feature films.

For a while it seemed like George Clooney was his generation’s heir apparent to Cary Grant, a bona fide movie star whose limited range is rendered irrelevant by his irrepressible charisma. And then he started directing films and, at least out of the gate things seemed momentarily more interesting. His 2002 directorial debut, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, came on breezy but grounded, certainly the most approachable take on a Charlie Kaufman screenplay ever mounted. And 2005’s Good Night, and Good Luck, his tribute to the mandarin days of television news, was at least palpably committed to lionizing Eisenhower-era liberal resistance. In other words, he looked to become the heir apparent to Robert Redford, auteur.
