David Hasselhoff has leapt to the defence of Jason Akermanis following his recent controversies. Akermanis was rumoured to have been dropped from Celebrity Apprentice after threatening the show's boss Mark Bouris and teammates Nathan Joliffe and Lauryn Eagle on Twitter. He also caused outrage for describing late sports star Jim Stynes as "cruel". Hasselhoff, who also took part in this year's Celebrity Apprentice, has hit back at Akermanis's critics, describing his friend as a "true gentleman" who was fun to work with. The Baywatch actor told the Herald Sun: "Sometimes as celebrities we are set up to say something and the press take it in a certain way. It happened to me just three (more)...

Jason Akermanis is believed to have been axed from Celebrity Apprentice. The Australian Football League player, who was thought to have been taking part in the reality TV show alongside stars such as David Hasselhoff and Patti Newton, may have been cut from footage after his recent slurs against late sports star Jim Stynes. According to The Daily Telegraph, a "sneak peak" promo clip of Celebrity Apprentice has been revealed which does not appear to feature Akermanis at all. After allegedly being eliminated from the series in February, messages appeared on Ackermanis's Twitter account directed at Celebrity Apprentice boss Mark Bouris and fellow contestants Nathan Joliffe and Lauryn Eagle. The message for Bouris said: "@markbouris I have a long memory mate. I hope I see you real soon," while (more)...

Today is the 12th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips today issued a worldwide injunction against the investigation or enforcement of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. This leaves the Department of Justice 60 days to appeal, which conveniently falls after the election. Many are saying that if President Obama was truly a 'fierce advocate" for Glbt rights, he would announce he doesn't intend to appeal before the election. That seems unlikely since the Department of Justice just filed a notice of appeal in Gil vs. Office of Personnel Management which struck down certain provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act in Massachusettes. The DoJ also filed notice of appeal in the related case Commonwealth of Massachusetts vs. Department of Health and Human Services. In response to the Doma actions, Dan Savage will probably be able to reprint his response to the White House co-opting It Gets...

Plus flying the gay-friendly skies, Matthew Mitcham's footie advice, dissecting Federbear's tweener, and will The Arrangement smell like a rose ... or something else?
How can you say no to that face?
Matthew Mitcham is interviewed by heraldsun.com and drops a few interesting tidbits. He calls Jason Akermanis (who infamously said gay athletes should stay in the closet) "irrelevant," he thinks the time is right for closeted footie players to come out, and about being one of the few openly gay high-profile athletes he says "It's a part of me that I love and enjoy and I like being known as gay. I see it as something positive, so it's just another positive thing to be known as." If the trailer for Logo's The A List doesn't tempt you to watch the show (and judging by the comments, it doesn't) then maybe this trailer for another Logo show will do the trick.

Plus Rafa Vs. Thor, a possible Simon Cowell replacement, and an awesomely hypocritical PSA.
Big congrats to one of our favorite guys, Broadway hunk-a-dunk Nick Adams, who's been cast in the North American company of the musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in the role of Adam/Felicia (played by Guy Pearce in the film). He'll star alongside Hair hottie Will Swenson and Australian actor Tony Sheldon. Hopefully he won't have to wear a hoodie for this role (read the hilarious last part of the article). Speaking of hoodies, in today's Betty Bite™, the legend is launching her own line of t-shirts and hoodies to hit stores in August. Portions of sales will go to the Morris Animal Foundation.
If he comes with it, I'll take three.

Even before professional rugby player Nick Youngquest struck up his public friendship with his out teammate Gareth Thomas, many gay men were already aware of the very handsome Youngquest.
After all, the 26-year-old Australian has appeared in rather racy pictorials for not one, but three gay magazines – DNA in Australia, Attitude in the UK and the French magazine Têtu. And those weren’t even the first time Youngquest had stripped down, having first done so in 2006 for a charity calendar in Australia that raised funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation.
But it is Youngquest’s recent friendship with his Celtic Crusaders teammate Gareth Thomas – so humorously documented via their tweets – that has elevated Youngquest from just being a sex symbol for gay men to actually being an incredibly cool gay ally.
By showing he’s not only comfortable being admired by gay men, but in so publicly being “mates” with them,...

I few days ago, we took a look at some locker room banter between openly gay rugby hero Gareth Thomas and straight rugby star Nick Youngquest. The point was that despite the fears of insecure men like Jason Akermanis, not much changes with a gay player on a professional team. The locker room is still full of trash talk, and nobody is afraid to take a shower.
Gareth responded to our article.
I especially appreciate the big guy's use of "comfy." While naked Twister was teased in the banter, they evidently couldn't find a mat. But they did hit the gym together together today, and Nick brought a camera to the locker room, resulting in the picture at the top.
The heterosexual didn't run screaming after all.
Gareth absolutely understands the example the two of them are setting. He's captained teams at the international level, and now he's championing the...

It all starts with a photograph.
In April, Aussie Rules Football player Jason Akermanis created a firestorm when he told gay players to stay in the closet, that football wasn’t ready for them. Akermanis maintained gay team members would make the other players uncomfortable in the showers, in the locker room and in general. In fact, Akermanis claimed it was the very homoerotic nature of sports camaraderie that would make gay players unwelcome:
"In an athletic environment the rules are different from the cultural rules for men."
"Never in a mall will you see two straight men hugging, ass slapping and jumping around like kids after an important goal."
"Locker room nudity and homoerotic activities are normal inside footy clubs."
Obviously, Akermanis never counted on Australian rugby player Nick Youngquest and out rugby hero Gareth Thomas to make him look both right (sort of) and foolish. At least in...

Duck! It’s a drive-by blogging!
These Teeth have got to chatter quickly, my dears – they’re due to take a chunk out of study for my finals. But who says dot points can’t be cerebral? Let's find out!
Snack on this! New True Blood preview!
Remember when True Blood creator Alan Ball promised us the “gayest” season yet? "Come one, come all!" called the ringmaster. "See the amazing gay Lafayette finally snare a boyfriend – he’s just that deft, ladies and gentlemen! Marvel as sexual boundaries disappear before your eyes – the erotic undertones of the vampire genre let loose to play outside their straight prison! And see as our writers daringly do more than intimate the polysexuality of most our principal cast!"
Yeah, nada.
Anybody catch a whiff of any of that elusive gay in this promo? “Ultimate fan preview” my tush! Maybe you just have to have a preternatural sense of smell…...

Plus Bret Easton Ellis excerpts, Southland sparkles at upfronts, and sexually harassing Robert Pattinson.
MTV has picked up their Teen Wolf reboot into series. It stars Tyler Posey as a young man who gains a bunch of powers, including the ability to attract girls (of course!) as the result of a wolf attack. So they’ve ditched the coming-of-age, father/son dynamic of the movies.
In awful news, the court in Malawi has given the maximum 14-year jail term to the two men convicted of homosexuality yesterday. Various aid groups are protesting, and the British government is complaining, but says stopping aid to the poor country will not help, only put more vulnerable citizens at risk.
The Moscow mayor has again banned Pride from the city. Again.

There’s news that one of the ideas for Glee next season is that they want Susan Boyle as a lunch lady. I would really rather they cut down on the stunt casting and just kept plotlines for the regular cast from falling by the wayside.
The sky is blue, water is wet, and Details has another sensational anti-gay article. This one is about a voice coach to help actors sound less gay, so people like Ramin Setoodeh can find them more believable.
Queers4Gears takes Six Questions with Riki Rachtman, former host of MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball, Love Connection with Dr. Drew, and currently a judge on Fast Track To Fame on the Speed Channel. That tattooed rocker is full of surprises, including his thoughts on out rocker Rob Halford.
