In case you haven’t heard, the Writer’s Guild of America is currently on strike over a variety of issues that include better pay and better job security. The strike most obviously impacts TV series and movies that employ WGA members, though the strike itself has everyone in the entertainment industry talking.
Most recently, David Gaider decided to weigh in on the subject of the value of writers in the current entertainment economy. For those who don’t know, Gaider is a veteran video game writer who broke into the industry by writing for BioWare. His work on titles such as Baldur’s Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Knights of the Old Republic has been widely praised, though it’s Gaider’s extensive work on the Dragon Age series that often defines his legacy thus far. He is, generally speaking, often closely associated with the golden age of BioWare games.

BioWare Is Well Aware Of Fan Requests For Mass Effect And Dragon Age As They Work On Secret Projects
BioWare’s general manager Casey Hudson is teasing some secret projects the studio is working on. In a blog post, Hudson expressed his thanks to fans who showed their overwhelming support despite major skepticism for Anthem. Furthermore, Hudson shared that the BioWare team will be present at Pax West this year and hinted that teams are working hard to surprise fans of Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
“And yes—we hear loud and clear the interest in BioWare doing more Dragon Age and Mass Effect, so rest assured that we have some teams hidden away working on secret stuff that I think you’ll really like—we’re just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while.”
Of course, it is understandable that right now, BioWare is focused on Anthem, which is scheduled to release on February 2019 for The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, it is...

Mass Effect: Andromeda won't be releasing this holiday season and is instead pushed to "early 2017."
Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference 2016, EA's Blake Jorgensen noted that the game will release in EA's fourth quarter, which begins January 1st and ends in April. That means the game is pushed from a holiday release, to an early 2017 release.
Mass Effect Andromeda was announced at E3 and had a release of "holiday 2016." Instead it seems we will be looking forward to some other shooters.
“We’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter,” Jorgensen said (Via GameInformer).
This obviously notes a new Battlefield heading our way, but it also hints that Titanfall 2 will be hitting sometime in that area too. Titanfall 2 was recently spotted at GameStop.
What we think is happening is a comination of things. For one it is a Fall title and we expect to see delays,...

Mass Effect: Andromeda lead writer Chris Schlerf has ceased working for BioWare and jumped ship to work on Bungie’s Destiny instead, according to a post on his Twitter account.
Despite the surprise career change from one triple-a studio to another, Schlerf has nothing but praise for his former employers, stating that working for BioWare amounted to one of the “best experiences” of his professional career and even expressed his confidence over the the quality of the upcoming Andromeda, stating it will “blow people away.”
Despite having seemingly left mid-development of BioWare’s continuation of the sci-fi space opera series, Schlerf said he “couldn’t be prouder” of having the chance to work on the project. One can only wonder why Schlerf decided to depart the company if he was so happy with the project he was working on.
Could the exit be down to BioWare wanting to take Andromeda...

Joan Rivers responds to CNN interview, People’s Hottest Bachelors gets gayer, Dolly Parton offers to adopt abandoned Glastonbury dog
A poor dog was abandoned at Glastonbury, found in a tent during cleanup. She was nicknamed Dolly after the festival’s most notable performer, Dolly Parton. The pup is currently in a shelter waiting to be claimed by an owner, but if she’s not, Dolly herself has vowed to take the dog home to America with her. She’s even called the shelter to check on her care.

A Morrigan appearance in "Dragon Age: Inquisition" is no surprise: she featured heavily in the game's first trailer at E3 earlier this summer. "It's not a cameo," says David Gaider in an interview with Game Informer. "She plays a significant role."
That's the good news: Morrigan was ruthless, caustic, insecure, and sometimes just downright mean, but she was sharply drawn and chracterized, and I always appreciated BioWare's dedication to realistically loathsome characters. The ambivalent -- or bad, depending on your preferences -- news is that she won't be a playable companion.
"I think it is fair for people people to understand that [Morrigan] will not be a party member," says Mike Laidlaw, the creative director on "Inquisition." "That's going to disappoint some people, but I think it's important for us to be upfront about that."

Dragon Age: Until We Sleep #1
Writers: David Gaider, Alexander Freed
Artist: Chad Hardin
Colorist: Michael Atiyeh
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Disclaimer: I haven’t played any of the Dragon Age games or read any of the previous comics.
While I was reading this comic, I was bombarded with names, concepts, and places that were extremely unfamiliar to me. However, the framing narrative and accessible Pov character of this book add layers to the story and make it accessible for new readers. There are also interesting concepts and themes in this book, such as blood magic and dragon’s blood. But this issue also shows the issues with adapting any kind of epic fantasy to comic book form, especially a three issue miniseries.
The narrative of this book jumps around a lot, but by the end of the issue, the reader can place the events in chronological order because there are logical transitions and overlapping characters,...

Dark Horse comics continues to expand its slate of video game tie ins with two major Dragon Age releases for 2013: the new miniseries Dragon Age: Until We Sleep and the first volume of their art book/encyclopedia Dragon Age: The World of Thedas. Find out more about these New York Comic-Con announcements after the jump.
First, on March 27th, the publisher will follow up this year's miniseries Those Who Speak with Until We Sleep from writer David Gaider and artist Chad Hardin, based on scripts by Alexander Freed (I'm assuming Gaider has something like a "story by" credit here). The story returns to Dragon Age: Origins hero, King Alistair as he forges a series of alliances with some of the most dangerous people in the kingdom to help him find the evil mage responsible for his father's disappearance.

King Alistair goes searching for his father while Liara T’Soni uses her new Shadow Broker assets to prevent the oncoming attack of the Reapers. More details about Mass Effect: Homeworlds #4 and Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1 after the jump.
The first issue of the new Dragon Age comic out of BioWare and Dark Horse Comics teams Origins hero Alistair (now royalty in the game's canon) up with "the pirate captain Isabela and the underworld merchant Varric" to delve into an empire of evil mages in order to get more info on Alistair's missing father. Seriously, the whole empire has to be evil? Not a single nice one? Writer David Gaider, who was the writing lead on both games, provides this slice of mage-based prejudice (I kid, I kid), which promises to further flesh out more of the games' universe.
Personally, I found Alistair one of the most interesting characters from the first game.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. Available in print for the first time, Dragon Age: The Silent Grove is the perfect introduction to BioWare’s dark fantasy universe. One of his latest creations is the fantasy world of Dragon Age, which has served as the setting for 2 games, a web series, novels, and more recently the Dark Horse digital comic “The Silent Grove.” Regarding the latter,Gaider is in charge of the story; which will hopefully help to maintain...

Same-sex marriage is a hot-button issue in the American political space – well, a hot-button issue for some. Even supposing the industry would like to keep videogames completely devoid of any political tendencies, the reality is that nearly any form of entertainment that allows for you to make choices could present some alleged moral conundrum. If developers place marriage as an option in their game, there is the inevitable question: can you marry someone of the same-sex?
According to a Twitter exchange between Bethesda's Pete Hines and a fan, you'll have the ability to marry whoever you want – in regards to gender – in "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."
The issues of homosexuality and same-sex marriage are nothing new for videogames. Most recently, BioWare addressed the concept through the "Mass Effect" and "Dragon Age" franchises, with both series allowing players to engage in intimate behavior with any applicable character, regardless of their character's gender.
