He’s relapsed, he’s recovered, he’s been revived – and now he’s back, back again (and again). His second album in less than a year, Kamikaze is the latest and most disappointing entry to Eminem’s never-ending encore, a boot camp of knotty, joyless, lumbering ragers aimed largely at a rap game that’s passing him by.
Perfunctorily, he loads reams of names and multisyllabic filler into his random rhyme generator and sets the timer for 46 minutes. The rhymes have more grace and torque than the scream-raps of his last LP,...

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

The beef between Meek Mill and Drake might be the biggest (or second biggest) story in hip-hop now, but as Hannibal Buress proved on Wednesday night's Why, a pair of diss tracks, Twitter jabs and ghostwriting accusations haven't pushed the feud into the general consciousness. To get the true magnitude of the rap beef's reverberations, Buress traveled to the one Los Angeles neighborhood "that you go to talk about hip-hop": Beverly Hills.
During the man-on-the-street segment, Buress asked numerous Beverly Hills denizens, "Who is Meek Mill?" Only one person could identify the rapper,...

Sathima Bea Benjamin, jazz singer and activist, has died at age 76.
According to the New York Times, Benjamin passed away on Tuesday, August 20, at her home in Cape Town. Her cause of death has not yet been determined.
Born in Johannesburg, the South African vocalist recorded alongside the likes of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, before she reportedly went on to become an ambassador for her homeland and a beacon of principled objection to apartheid.
After relocating to New York City with her husband and acclaimed pianist, Abdullah Ibrahim, the internationally renowned jazz singer gave birth to her son, Tsakwe, and daughter, Tsidi (who is also known today as rapper Jean Grae).
During an interview with Revolt TV, Tsidi reflected on her parent’s decision to enrich their lives with a wealth of African culture. “I think they were so ahead of their time in thinking in terms of being individuals and saying,...

Hip Hop has always been a male led genre and it seems now more than ever. However that has not always been the way. Over the years numerous talented female emcees have reserved places in our memories; of course Roxanne Shante, on the more commercial side Salt N Pepa, Latifah, Monie Love, Jean Grae and maybe even Yo Yo for those Left Coast fans but one name that cannot go without a mention is of course Mc Lyte. Mc Lyte (Lana Michelle Moorer) burst onto the Hip-Hop scene at the tender age of eighteen in 1988 with the classic album “Lyte as a Rock”. This album featured the instant classic, “Paper Thin” and was mostly produced by her brothers Audio Two. Although it also features an early prince Paul production credit on “Mc Lyte Likes Swingin’”

Without a doubt, mutants are the next phase in human evolution. But just how did they evolve? That's the question filmmaker Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass") sought to answer with his rip-roaring summer blockbuster "X-Men: First Class."
Part prequel, part retconned origin story, "First Class" explains how an idealistic young Charles Xavier and a revenge-bound Erik Lensherr met, became friends, became adversaries, and finally became X-Men, all while wearing really stylish '60s duds that would make Austin Powers jealous.
When we first see Erik it's in Nazi-occupied Poland, right after the metal gate-bending opening of Bryan Singer's original "X-Men." An evil scientist named Dr. Schmidt murders Erik's parents, which unleashes the destructive capabilities of the boy's mutant power to manipulate metal.
Also Check Out: 9 Ambiguously Gay Movie Duos
Flash-forward to 1962, the Kennedy era, as a hellbent Erik (Michael Fassbender) uses his powers to locate Schmidt, who now goes by the name Sebastian Shaw.

But this latest installment might take the cake. Not only is the prolific NYC femcee Jean Grae a hardcore "X-Men" fan, her namesake is even derived from one its characters.
So yeah, we expected Jean to give it to us straight when chiming in on "X-Men: First Class," the fifth mutant-superhero flick in a series that's seen its ups ("X-Men" and "X2") and downs ("X-Men: The Last Stand" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine").

Lil B is unpredictable. The polarizing rapper, who has most recently made headlines for naming his upcoming album I'm Gay, is now collaborating with Roc Nation signee Jay Electronica. According to B, the pair are working together on an Ep.
For the most part, B — who is most famous for his simplistic songs like "Ellen DeGeneres" and "I'm Miley Cyrus" — isn't taken seriously as a lyricist, while Jay is regarded as one of the game's top up-and-coming MCs. Coincidentally, that's also the day that will see the launch of the 2010 MTV World Cup of Rock tournament. What makes a great concert? Confident and enthused performers? Check. An excited and willing crowd? Got it. An hour and a half wait for the main act after terrible openers? Probably not. And so it was last Friday night down at Sonar Baltimore for Talib Kweli.
This particular half of the best legendary hip-hop alliance (Black Star) held up his name when he and his DJ made their way out to the stage, after a painfully long period between sets. Kweli was on point, lyrically ferocious and ready to interact with the patience-tested crowd. For a while, it looked like Brooklyn Mc Jean Grae might never put out her fourth album. She apparently finished it two years ago, and there were rumors that she might be retiring. If she is, she's going out on a good note: Jeanius is both easy-rolling—thanks to production by 9th Wonder (Little Brother, Jay-z, Erykah Badu)—and relentlessly self-examining, thanks to songs like "Don't Rush Me," in which Grae admits, "I know I'm overly sensitive when it comes to. well, just about everything." She even comes to a kind of peace with herself on "Desparada": "I couldn't imagine why I was granted a second chance at life / But I'm so glad I saw the light / And I see now my purpose, right." Not everything works as well—"Love Thirst" is pretty much a straight R&B ballad, and a fairly iffy one. But even there, she can't help.
