A slew of new faces has been added to the cast of Rose McGowan's next project, "Napa." Well, they're familiar faces, but faces nonetheless!
Variety reports that Sean "Samwise Gamgee" Astin will be joining Taryn Manning, Kevin Pollak and Johnathon Schaech in the indie thriller. Manning, who first broke through in "8 Mile," recently starred in "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll"; Schaech previously shared the screen with McGowan in Gregg Araki's hyper-violent and sexy '95 film "The Doom Generation."
The film is based on writer and professor Hans Ostrom's novel "Three to Get Ready," a title that will unfortunately get the Stray Cats stuck in your head for days. Ostrom, who's a professor at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and first-time director Michael Kerr worked together on adapting the novel. The two met in a screenwriting workshop in the '90s.

Today is one of those insane days where everyone is being cast in something, rumors are flying, and yet we lack enough information to wax poetic on every piece of information. That's why it's all going into Casting Bits today. So, read on and catch up... Rose McGowan is set to star in a romantic thriller called "Napa", which will be the feature film debut of writer-producer Michael Kerr. Based on Hans Ostrom's novel "Three to Get Ready," it will feature McGowan "playing a woman who after three tours of duty in Afghanistan returns to her hometown, where she is given the job of sheriff." I'm not sure where the romance or the thriller angle comes in, but I do know "Three to Get Ready" sounds like a thriller, whereas "Napa" sounds like it's about wine country. I also know McGowan hasn't done three tours in Afghanistan. [The Hollywood Reporter] M.C. Gainey (aka Mr.

The actress will headline the romantic thriller "Napa," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
McGowan plays a discharged solider who returns to her hometown and takes up the job of sheriff. Interesting! (And very strange.)
The "Charmed" star has been trying to find her stride, appearing in "Conan the Barbaian" and making guest appearances on "Law & Order: Svu."
"Napa" marks Michael Kerr's directorial feature debut. He collaborated with Hans Ostrom on the script, which is based on Ostrom’s novel "Three to Get Ready."
Can Rose rock as a solider-turned-sheriff?...

Rose McGowan looks set to return to her butt-kicking best in Michael Kerr‘s Napa. The film is based on Hans Ostrom‘s novel Three to Get Ready, a novel the Fulbright scholar published through small imprint Cliffhanger Press back in 1991. Ostrom and Kerr have adapted the script together, and producer Kerr will also use the film as his feature directorial debut. Not much is known about the book beyond its basic logline – it “centers around Scarlett Harding (McGowan) who gets a job as Sheriff in her hometown of Napa after returning from three military tours of Afghanistan.” It’s not known if the film will be set in the timeframe the book covered, with Scarlett returning from her military service in the early 90s, or if it will be moved more towards present day. Whichever type of war Scarlett returns home from, she’ll face some sort of mystery in her new job, as...

Rose McGowan is one of the only actresses whose career constantly remains unfettered by poor showings at the box office. Conan the Barbarian was met with mild box office receipts and even milder reviews, yet the actress has four films in various stages of production and shows no sign of slowing down. The Charmed star has accepted the lead in Napa, according to Variety, which will put her in the role of Sheriff of her home town after three tours in Afghanistan. Based on a Hans Ostrom novel Three to Get Ready, originally published in 1990, the book is described as a mystery so expect McGowan to quickly get caught up in a big case at her new job. Michael Kerr will be making his first attempt behind the camera for Napa, which will be produced under his own company alongside Greek producer Nellie Nugiel. What we don.t know right...
