"She's going to be our big money maker, you mark my words." Kandoo Films has debuted a official trailer for an indie drama titled Skin in the Game, the feature directorial debut of an Oakland native filmmaker / musician known as Adisa. Based on a true story, the thriller is about a fifteen year old girl abducted off the streets who finds herself stuck in a horrific sex trafficking ring. With no initial assistance from the police, Dani's mother and an ex-prostitute take to the streets in an effort to save her before it's too late. Starring Erica Ash, Elisabeth Harnois, Angélica Celaya, Sammi Hanratty, Gideon Adlon, Gail Bean, Jay Hieron, and Catfish Jean. This is an important story to tell, the film just doesn't look unique in any way. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Adisa's Skin in the Game, direct from Kandoo's YouTube: Abducted off the sidewalk of suburban America,...

A Darhk force might be John Constantine’s only hope during this Monday’s Legends of Tomorrow (The CW, 9/8c). After siphoning off some of his own life to save a young boy, Constantine last week was left on death’s door. And with Gideon unable to heal him, the Waverider crew is forced to turn to an unlikely ally in tonight’s episode: their former foe Nora Darhk, who’s currently trying to live a regular life. (Well, as regular a life as one can have while working at a Renaissance fair.)

Here's a fun trailer for a new action crime thriller called Danger One. This is a dark comedy that tells the story of two paramedics who steal a million dollars from a dying man, which leads to one hell of a crazy adventure for them. The movie was directed by Tom Oesch (Echo) and it stars Tom Everett Scott, James Jurdi, Angélica Celaya, Denis O'Hare, Michael O'Neill, Damon Dayoub, and Charles Shaughnessy. Here's the synopsis:
Danger One follows two paramedics, Dean (Scott) and Eric (Jurdi), who are both facing long hours, tough situations, and low pay. When they get a 911 call that leads them to discover a million dollars sewn into the clothes of a dying man, erratic Dean persuades reluctant Eric to keep the money. "I want my moneyyy!!" Freestyle Digital Media has released an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Danger One, directed by filmmaker Tom Oesch (Echo). I may have been one of the few to like the 2005 film version of DC Comics’ John Constantine. Yes, it had Keanu and yes it was in Los Angeles, not London, but it was an old fashioned horror film and worked better than it should have.
As a result, I was primed to enjoy NBC”s take on Constantine when it debuted in 2014. It had the right pedigree with David S. Goyer and Mark Verheiden among the producers and cast an act Brit, Matt Ryan, in the lead. What resulted, though, was something interesting and uneven that didn’t catch on with the general audience and was gone after thirteen all-too-brief episodes.
There has been enough interest in the character that Ryan was brought on to reprise his role in last season’s Arrow and he’s voicing John on the forthcoming Justice League Dark animated feature. And now, Warner...

This review contains spoilers.
8.16 Heartbreaker
Heartbreaker is one of my favorite kinds of Castle episodes—if you ignore the first two minutes.
As I have made it abundantly clear in my reviews, the strength of this show is its actors. Time and again, they save episodes that would otherwise be damned by uneven writing and misjudged instincts on the part of the new showrunners. Their individual skills and the chemistry they exude as a group is what keeps us holding on even when it seems like the show is spiralling downward.
So any episode which tightly focuses in on one of their characters is almost always a joy to watch, and Heartbreaker, which put Javier Esposito in the limelight, is no exception.
It seems that nine years ago—or not long before we met Esposito,...

When it comes to Castle‘s Ryan-, Esposito- or RySpo-centric episodes, the reactions tend to be mixed — those who judge the episode based on its own merits versus those who bristle against anything that steals Caskett time. But given how Season 8 as a whole has been a, um, special animal when it comes to Rick/Kate interactions, perhaps this look at a romantic blast from Javy’s past will be assessed more fairly.

British actress Lucy Griffith played the female lead in the Constantine pilot but wound up being replaced by Angélica Celaya's Zed when the series was picked up. Well, she'll have a chance to make an impact in a other small-screen Vertigo adaptation as THR reports that Griffiths has been cast in AMC's Preacher as character who seems to have been created just for the show, Emily Woodrow. The site describe Emily as "a no-nonsense single mother of three. Emily's a waitress, the church organist, bookkeeper and Jesse's loyal right hand. Stoic and strong, wise beyond her years, she can’t help but have a little thing for Preacher Jesse." In Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic series, we only saw Jesse as a practising preacher very briefly so unless Griffiths is only a part of flashback scenes, we might be looking at an extra character going on the road with the core trio.

Just in time for its first season finale, Constantine develops both its side characters, like Manny the once annoying angel (Harold Perrineau), who is the real star of the penultimate episode “Angels and Ministers of Grace”, and Jim Corrigan (Emmet Scanlan), who plays a big role in the finale and main cast. The writers finally get to show John Constantine’s (Matt Ryan) smoking habit, and continue to look into his mix of passive and active responses to the Rising Darkness, and have Zed (Angelica Celaya) struggle with her visions in a physical and spiritual way while building friendships with Corrigan and Manny.
However, for all its character growth and exploration, Constantine is pretty content with being a case of the week supernatural show, with minimal connective tissue between the episodes, even if the finale does pull a couple...

Constantine's penultimate episode gives Manny and Zed some welcome development, but will the show be renewed for season 2?
This review contains spoilers.
1.12 Angels And Ministers Of Grace
Constantine continues to add colour to its supporting characters with an episode that gives Manny a chance to finally be something other than a convenient piece of plot furniture. Zed gets some much-needed development as well in Angels And Ministers Of Grace. Last week I wondered whether Constantine would benefit from dropping its side characters; now I am wondering if it could solve its supporting cast problem the opposite way, by building them up and making them better. Chas used to be a fairly neutral piece of the show, but seeing him for the first time since his spotlight episode the week before last felt like the return of an old friend. Hopefully the same will go for Manny after this episode.

Constantine, Season 1, Episode 10, “Quid Pro Quo”
Written by Brian Anthony
Directed by Mary Harron
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Throughout Constantine‘s first season, Chas Chandler (Charles Halford) has been an enigmatic and sadly underused figure. He plays the voice of reason and comfort to the amoral, twice or thrice damned Constantine (Matt Ryan) and has saved him many times with his special, unexplained powers. Using some carefully selected flashbacks joined to the main narrative with the recurring image of a flame, “Quid Pro Quo” reveals why Chas seemingly can’t die, why he is friends with a man who makes him pick up his bar tab 10 out of 10 times, and explores Chas’ strained relationship with his ex-wife Renee (Amanda Clayton) and daughter Geraldine. Writer Brian Anthony also introduces legendary DC Comics villain Felix Faust (played by a chilling Mark Margolis) a “second fiddle” magician who acts as...

It's more than a little depressing to think that this might just be the last ever episode of Constantine, but even a new time slot doesn't seem to have done the NBC series that much good. Of course, it was doomed for a start in some ways, but here's hoping a miracle happens and we end up getting a second season...anyway, what do you guys think about this official description? Be sure to share...

Constantine Season 1, Episode 9: “The Saint of Last Resorts Part 2”
Written by Mark Verheiden
Directed by Romeo Tirone
Airs Fridays at 8 pm Et on NBC
Beginning directly after the gut-wrenching ending of the midseason finale, ” The Saint of Last Resorts Part 2″ takes one of the series’ biggest risks yet, by having John Constantine (Matt Ryan) literally bond with a demon to save his life after his old lover Anne-Marie (Claire van der Bloom) shot him because she wasn’t willing to have him sacrifice another innocent to save his skin. Constantine‘s new status quo is riveting as, possessed by the Assyrian hunger demon Pazuzu, John slaughters members of a pretty scary Mexican gang and gets thrown in prison, where Chas (Charles Halford) and Zed (Angelica Celaya) must enter and exorcise the demon, or kill him if all else fails. There is also the “Rising Darkness”, but over the course of the season,...

In the next episode of NBC's Constantine, "The Saint of Last Resorts: Part 2," John (Matt Ryan) was forced to cast a demon into his own body in a last ditch effort to save his life after being shot by his old friend and flame, Sister Anne Marie. Well, we’re now in the Christmas doldrums for TV. The regular series are on hiatus until January or later. A couple of columns ago I discussed which shows I was anticipating or not (So How Was It For You?) and this seems a good time to revisit them and give my evaluations.
Warning: there may be spoilers sprinkled here and there. You have been warned.
The Flash – my favorite in this group. Grant Gustin is doing good work as Barry Allen/The Flash and the supporting cast is good. The writing is also first rate and they keep adding little nods to DC continuity that pleases the Old Fan in me.
Grade: A
The Blacklist – The show has kept my attention and James Spader as main character/anti-hero Red Reddington is worth watching all by himself. I thought the premise would get old fast but I find it holding up.
