British broadcaster Channel 4has unveiled its latest programming slate including a Muslim punk comedy, a three-part doc series about Russian President Vladimir Putin and a reality series set within a Namibian tribe.
The shows were announced by Channel 4 at the start of the Edinburgh International Television Festival.
NBCU-backed Working Title Television is making Lady Parts, a six-part comedy about an all female Muslim punk band. From writer/director Nida Manzoor, the half-hour series follows the eponymous band, featuring geeky Phd student and lead guitarist Amina Hussein and fierce and enigmatic front-woman Saira. Saira uses Amina’s desperation to find a husband as leverage, offering to hook up dates for her if she agrees to join the band. Amina has never, ever met girls like this before, and soon gets swept up in their joyful anarchic energy. But will she be the key to the band’s success? And...

The BBC is heading to Bollywood with a two-part documentary exploring the world’s largest film industry. Strictly Come Dancing star Anita Rani is to present Bollywood: The World’s Biggest Film Industry for the British public broadcaster.
The film will at the world of Indian cinema, which is the world’s largest film industry in terms of film production with an annual output of around 2,000 films per year. She will meet a number of big-screen idols and discovers how an industry based on centuries old traditions is racing to keep up with the changing tastes of one of the youngest countries on earth.

Channel 4 has given the greenlight to a programme inspired by online forum Mumsnet. Broadcast reports that the show, which has a working title of The Bad Mums' Club, will be created by Studio Lambert. It will see mothers joining forces to offer support and parenting advice to each other on a range of issues relating to different age groups. HollywoodNews.com: TV chef Jamie Oliver will appear on British TV screens every weekday to show the country how to cook quick meals.
The 35-year-old will be hosting the new TV show, ‘Jamie’s Thirty Minute Meals,’ on Channel 4 and he will be seen cooking up a storm every weekday afternoon after the show was commissioned for 40 episodes.
Execs on the show claim the new series will ’show that anyone can get a delicious feast on the table in less time than it takes for a takeaway pizza to arrive’.
Dominique Walker, from Channel 4, said: “The series gives him the chance to do what he does best – coming up with clever and inspiring dishes and making them accessible in Jamie’s inimitable way.
“You wouldn’t believe that you can cook such ambitious meals in less than half an hour.”

Channel 4 has ordered a new cookery show from Jamie Oliver. Thirty Minute Meals will see the chef produce "exciting, varied and seasonal" dishes in half an hour.
