After an exciting, often shocking run of episodes, the season 1 finale of X-Men '97 hits Disney+ next Wednesday, and (former) showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared some "homework" for fans who might want a cryptic hint about what to expect from "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3."
Spoilers for last week's episode and (potentially) Wednesday's instalment follow.
DeMayo posted an image from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5, episode 18, "Cause and Effect." This episode of the beloved sci-fi series saw the crew of the Enterprise caught in a time-loop, with the ship being destroyed over and over again, and Picard, Riker, Data and co. having to figure out how to reset the anomaly.
Does this suggest that the X-Men will find themselves in a similar situation? "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2" certainly left the team in dire straits, with Jean Grey killed(?) by a Mr. Sinister-controlled Cable, and Wolverine's Adamantium...

Bob Iger recently discussed how the MCU is cutting back on its creative work. He mentioned that fans can look forward to about 2 or 3 movies a year and 2 shows. That’s much less than what was initially planned and what we’re used to.
Right now, there are over 30 MCU projects rumored or confirmed to be in the works. But, as Brad Winderbaum recently mentioned, not all of them will actually get made and released.
Recently, rumors have been circulating, sparked by the scooper and leaker MyTimeToShineHello, suggesting that Donald Glover is being considered for a writing role.
The leaker didn’t specify which project the studio is eyeing Glover for, but he does have ties to Disney and Marvel.

Bob Iger recently talked about MCU downsizing its creative input. He said that fans can expect roughly 2 or three films a year and 2 shows. Which is significantly less than what was originally planned and what we’re used to seeing.
MCU currently has over 30 projects either rumored or confirmed to be in development. But as Brad Winderbaum recently pointed out, that doesn’t mean that all of them will make it into production and ultimately be released.
Still, the most recent rumors started by scooper & leaker MyTimeToShineHello, point in the direction of Donald Glover being eyed to serve as a writer.

Marvel Studios has drastically reduced its output since Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, with the hope being to get back to quality over quantity. That's led to fewer TV shows on Disney+, but at least two more Marvel Animation titles will reportedly be released this year.
According to What's On Disney Plus (via Toonado.com), the streamer has sent out an updated 2024 slate which names Black Panther spin-off Eyes Of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year) as being among the platform's 2024 offerings.
Other Marvel titles mentioned include Hit-Monkey season 2 (a Marvel Television leftover), Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Only Hit-Monkey has a confirmed launch date of July 15; the rest are currently undated.
It's interesting that Marvel Zombies isn't listed, as we'd expected that to hit in 2024 as well. It could be that no final decision has been made on the series,...

Disney and Marvel Studios had a tough year in 2023. Many of their movies didn’t do well, and the TV shows got mixed reviews. It was the first time in a while that Disney didn’t have a billion-dollar movie, and Marvel’s “The Marvels” became the lowest-grossing movie in the MCU, not even making $100 million domestically.
Recently, they found out that most of Disney’s movies were on the list of biggest box-office flops, with “The Marvels” losing a staggering $237 million. While it might not seem like much for such a big company, it prompted some big changes.
When ‘The Marvels’ came out, Iger said the studio would prioritize quality over quantity going forward. Brad Winderbaum, head of animation, mentioned they had a new plan, implying not everything in development will be made. 2023 turned out to be disastrous for Disney and for Marvel Studios. Most of their movies flopped, and TV shows were met with mixed reviews at best. Disney concluded its first year in a long time not having a billion dollar movie, and Marvel Studios concluded the year with ‘The Marvels’ which is officially the lowest-grossing movie in the MCU, and the first movie not to break the $100 million threshold at the domestic box office.
Recently, the list of biggest box-office flops was revealed, and most of Disney movies were on it, with ‘The Marvels’ losing an eye-watering $237 million dollars on a single project. This seems like a drop in the bucket for one of the most powerful entertainment and media companies in the galaxy, but it was enough to prompt some drastic changes.

There's only two more episodes of X-Men '97 to go, and Marvel Studios has released a clip from tomorrow's penultimate season 1 chapter, "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2."
The preview finds our mutant heroes suiting-up in new costumes for their impending battle with Bastion and his forces.
The outfits are a mixture of the team's classic looks, and the costumes they wore in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men. The clip also sees Jubilee burn Roberto DaCosta's business card, so Sunspot must have decided not to join the fight.
Former showrunner Beau DeMayo hinted at the costume change when he shared the unused pilot for Pryde of the X-Men earlier today.
DeMayo was also asked if he's ever heard any talk of adding Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat to the X-Men '97 roster.
"I haven’t, but my suspicion is Jubilee and Kitty slightly compete in terms of their age and Pov on the team.

A few months back, rumors circulated about Marvel Studios working on the ‘Midnight Sons’ project, with indications that the forthcoming ‘Blade’ reboot might connect to it.
The project reportedly features characters distinct from those in The Avengers lineup, with suggestions that Doctor Strange might not join the team.
Following a string of disappointing projects, Marvel Studios has adjusted its focus somewhat. Brad Winderbaum acknowledged that not all projects in development will see the light of day, leading many to speculate that ‘Midnight Sons’ might meet this fate. However, according to MyTimeToShineHello, the project remains active, with Fede Álvarez reportedly being considered for the director’s chair.

A couple of months ago, there was talk that Marvel Studios was developing the ‘Midnight Sons’ project and that the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot is supposed to tie into that project.
Midnight Sons would include characters that never appeared in The Avengers, and Doctor Strange allegedly would not be a part of the team.
Since then, Marvel Studios has experienced a series of bad projects, so they kind of shifted their goals a bit. Brad Winderbaum himself admitted that not all developed projects will ultimately go into production and be released, and we kind of just assumed that was the fate of ‘Midnight Sons.’
Now according to MyTimeToShineHello, the project is still on and the studio is eyeing Fede Álvarez to direct the movie.

Amidst a slew of projects in the MCU’s pipeline, with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ being the sole 2024 release, there’s been a shift in focus towards quality over quantity, as announced by Iger previously. However, recent rumors suggest otherwise, indicating a multitude of projects currently in development.
Among these projects is a series centered around Captain Britain, potentially replacing the previously rumored MI13 show.
The inclusion of Captain Britain in the MCU isn’t a recent development, with rumors dating as far back as 2018. For the uninitiated, Captain Britain, alter ego of Brian Braddock, transcends being merely a British counterpart to Captain America. Introduced in 1976, his character is imbued with mystical powers by Merlyn, blending elements of a superhero with those of a mystical guardian. Often, his adventures traverse magical realms, offering a captivating layer to the MCU’s narrative landscape.

MCU has a lot of projects currently in development, despite ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ being the only movie to be released in 2024. This Wednesday's episode of X-Men '97 kicks off a three-part finale titled "Tolerance Is Extinction." With Bastion determined to put an end to mutantkind and an army of "Prime Sentinels" on hand, the heroes look set to face their toughest challenge yet.
We have a fairly long list of unanswered questions heading into these remaining instalments, including what role Magneto will play in proceedings now he's in Bastion's grip and whether time travel will be used to ultimately undo the genocide which took place on Genosha (and led to the death of Gambit).
Thanks to Toonado.com, we have a new clip from episode 8 which sees Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Cable on the run from an army of Sentinels and bonding as only these mutants can.
Jean isn't technically Nathan's mother, of course, but her clone (Madelyne Pryor) is. This action-packed sneak peek proves you don't screw with the Summers...

Back when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first started, events of the MCU were often referenced in the show, with Nick Fury even making a cameo appearance at the end of the first season. But as the show continued, it started to drift away from the main universe and by the time the seventh season concluded, it became a standalone narrative that had nothing to do with the MCU.

Marvel Studios Animation has hit the jackpot with its new series X-Men ’97. The series has got the fandom deep in discussion about the X-Men characters and the themes that made the mutants popular. Rising from the ashes of X-Men: The Animated Series like a Dark Phoenix, X-Men ‘97 has done a stellar job of bringing fan-favorites like Scott, Jean, and Wolverine back into the fray. While Marvel Studios’ producer Brad Winderbaum has revealed that production is already underway for seasons 2 and 3, some sneaky hints suggest that the lineup of this colorful cartoon caper could soon look a little different.
The Original X-Men
X-Men ‘97 has largely stuck with the series staples of X-Men: The Animated Series, albeit with the additions of Morph and Bishop while swapping out Professor Xavier for a reformed Magneto. Several Easter eggs have referenced both old and new teams, with the season premiere reminding us the current roster is far from the original lineup of Charles Xavier’s Gifted Youngsters.
A nostalgic picture of the “original” team is on display at the school.

The Marvel Zombies are coming to the MCU. The animated alternate timeline will see the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe facing a plaque that turns all metahumans into the walking dead. However, is Disney willing to go for gore and a mature rating?
Possibly! According to Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, horror fans may rest easy knowing that the blood and guts of the comics could be represented on Disney+.
While speaking with IGN, Winderbaum did not precisely confirm that the show would be intended for mature audiences, but he is pretty sure that Marvel Zombies isn’t going to fly with a TV-Y7(-Fv) or TV-14 rating:
“In terms of more mature animation, yeah, we’re making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-ma show.“
The show has no official release date yet, but it is said to premiere this year.

When it comes to compelling antagonists in the MCU, it has been a kind of mixed bag, as, for every Killmonger, we have had the likes of Malekith and Whiplash. Fortunately, Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo was one of the more interesting villains the cinematic giant had to offer, who despite lacking any superpower of his own, succeeded in breaking the Avengers.
And while Zemo is still out there in the MCU, Bruhl is seemingly putting his future in the MCU in jeopardy with his upcoming HBO show The Franchise.

In 2021, it was confirmed that Ryan Coogler was working on a TV series set in Wakanda for Disney+, with Danai Gurira returning to her role as Okoye. After a quiet period, Variety reported in 2022 that Coogler was developing multiple Wakanda-focused series, some featuring existing characters and others introducing new ones.
Jump to 2023, the announcement of ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ came, set in the past and following Wakanda Warriors on a quest for Wakandan artifacts. Despite being confirmed recently, the animated show is slated for Disney+ in 2024 as part of Phase 5.
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Animation for Marvel Studios, clarified the status of the show’s canonicity. It’s confirmed that ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ will be part of the MCU canon.
We’re exploring so many amazing avenues on the animated side. Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other show, fits right into our sacred MCU timeline continuity.

Back in 2021, it was confirmed that Ryan Coogler was working on a TV series set in Wakanda that would be released on Disney+, and a few months later it was confirmed that Danai Gurira would return to reprise her role as Okoye in the project. Nothing was heard about the project for more than a year when Variety reported that Coogler was working on multiple Wakanda-focused series for Disney+, some to include already existing Wakandan characters and some to introduce completely new ones.
Then fast forward a year later, in 2023 relatively recently, ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ has been announced. Little is known about it except that it will be set in the past and will follow Wakanda Warriors as they travel far and wide to recover Wakandan artifacts. Despite the animated show being confirmed only a few months ago, it arrives at Disney+ in 2024 as a part of Phase 5.

Will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. return with a new series? ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s series experienced initial acclaim with productions such as WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, marking a significant journey into television in recent times. However, subsequent series exhibited a rapid descent into formulaic narratives, eliciting viewer fatigue towards Disney+ offerings. A notable shift emerged with the revelation to revive cherished pre-Disney+ era shows, notably X-Men: The Animated Series and Daredevil. These continuations, as evidenced by X-Men ’97 and Daredevil: Born Again, have reignited audience interest. Consequently, there exists a palpable sense of anticipation among audiences for the potential revival of another cherished Marvel Television program, named Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
