Exclusive: Toronto-based genre sales specialist Raven Banner has added Neon Noir horror pics Brute 1976 and Garden of Eden to its Cannes Film Market slate.
Brute 1976 from director Marcel Walz is marketed as a throwback to horror classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and follows a group of friends who stumble upon the desert town Savage while looking for a spot to set their latest photo shoot, only to meet the depraved, mask-wearing Birdy family, who begin hunting them down one by one.
Sarah French, Gigi Gustin, Dazelle Yvette and Adriane McLean star.
Garden of Eden follows the wealthy and devout Eden family, who choose one lucky guest from each of their parties and give them the opportunity to fulfil their greatest desires. However, a life-changing dream for some may become a nightmare for others.
Walz is the director, and like Brute 1976, was written by Joe Knetter.

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar very much wants to be one of the plethora of low-budget 1970s knock offs of Star Wars riding the comet tail of that phenomenon. It’s just not bad enough to be lumped in with Bartle Beyond the Stars or the 3-D mess of Spacehunters. Nor is it good enough to be a thoughtful low-budget meditation on the soul. It falls in between and is quickly forgotten the moment you turn off the DVD of the 2022 release, out now from Uncork’d Entertainment.
Late in the 30th century, mankind has somehow managed to survive the contemporary mess we’ve made of ourselves and has even managed to find a way to preserve the human soul, reducing it to a blue goo. The catch is that it’s expensive, so only the top 1% of the 1% can afford it, although starship captain Kip Corman (Michael Paré), a scavenger eking out a living,...

Neon Noir, the creative team behind the stalker thriller Blind, its still-unreleased sequel Pretty Boy, the slasher That’s a Wrap, and the upcoming horror film Garden of Eden, is back at it. Deadline reports that they have just wrapped production on Brute 1976, a horror project described as an homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. The original, ’70s versions of those films happen to be two of my all-time favorites, so this movie already has my attention.
Directed by Marcel Walz from a screenplay by Joe Knetter, Brute 1976 begins with Raquel and her girlfriend, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere as they travel to a photoshoot in the desert to celebrate Bicentennial unity . They stumble across an abandoned mine and explore it, while the photoshoot group replace her with make-up artist Sunshine and then find abandoned town Savage, which has a violent history...

George A. Romero, horror legend and father of the modern zombie movie, passed away in 2017. At the time of his death, he was developing the next installment in his "Dead" series: a film called "Twilight of the Dead," for which he had written a treatment with journalist and film critic Paolo Zelati. In 2021, we learned that "Twilight of the Dead" was in active development, with Romero's widow, Suzanne Romero, meeting with filmmakers to find the right director for what is being billed as George Romero's "final zombie movie."
Now, the filmmaker who will take on that daunting duty has been found. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Anderson will direct the movie from a script co-written by Zelati, Joe Knetter, and Robert Lucas. Anderson's previous directing credits are primarily horror movies and psychological thrillers, with his best-known work being a combination of the two genres: "Session 9," a...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Romero had been developing one final zombie movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which has shown brief signs of life here and there over the years. The film is finally coming to life, The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this morning, with Brad Anderson on board to direct!
“Shooting is expected to start later this year,” THR notes in their exclusive report.
“George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead may have been the first real horror movie I ever saw and its shock value, its keen social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all hugely inspirational to me,” said Anderson. “This too is a zombie movie in which limbs fly and heads roll, but one that is also about social transformation, one that asks the question: What is it to be human? Plot: When filmmaker Mason Maestro throws a private party after production wraps on his new slasher flick, someone dressed like the killer in the movie starts knocking off the partiers one-by-one.
Review: After working together on the stalker film Blind (read my review at This Link) and its sequel Pretty Boy (which we’re still anxiously waiting to see), director Marcel Walz, screenwriter Joe Knetter, and star Sarah French have teamed up once again to launch a production company called Neon Noir. Their first production is That’s a Wrap, a giallo slasher that takes both clear inspiration from the works of Italian filmmakers like Mario Bava and Dario Argento – especially due to the fact that Walz and cinematographer Marcus Friedlander have soaked nearly every shot in colorful lighting – and from the Scream franchise, in that it’s a meta film where the characters work in the horror business.

It’s a killer premise: at the wrap party for a horror film, somebody dresses up as that film’s slasher and starts picking off the guests. Principal writer Joe Knetter works strictly at the bargain bucket end of the genre but director Marcel Walz, for all that he’s been involved with some cheesy films, has generally brought enough stylistic flair to proceedings to make them worth watching anyway. He seems like a good choice for a playful contemporary piece which styles itself as giallo. Sadly, he is not at his best here, and the film really has no substance at all.
It opens with an actress sitting at her dressing room mirror late at night, after everyone else has left the set. Clad in a very Eighties white wrap-around dress, she puts on lipstick, as the genre would have us believe all women do several times an hour,...

Late “Night of the Living Dead” creator George A. Romero has one final film in the works.
Romero, who died in 2017 at age 77 after battling lung cancer, wrote a treatment for film “Twilight of the Dead” before passing away. Per Romero’s estate, the film is the “seventh and final installment” in the “Living Dead” franchise. The project was first revealed in 2021, but Deadline reported that newly relaunched Roundtable Entertainment is now moving forward with production and applying for a SAG-AFTRA waiver amid the strike for a slated late 2023 start date. The waiver would allow production to happen in spite of SAG-AFTRA work stoppage orders.
Romero’s widow Suzanne Romero, who will produce the film, said in a statement, “I’m delighted to be joining forces with Roundtable to bring the eerie evolution of Romero’s universe to the screen. Roundtable impressed me with their long-term and deep love of George’s work.

After the release of Day of the Dead in 1985, twenty years went by without George A. Romero being able to get another zombie movie into production, even though he was very open about the fact that he had an idea for another one. During that time, a lot of fans expected the next movie to be called Twilight of the Dead, following the progression of the titles Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. But when Romero did make a fourth zombie movie, he threw a titular curveball and called it Land of the Dead. That was followed by Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Now it looks like Twilight of the Dead is going to happen after all – and might even begin filming before the end of this year!

While we keep waiting to hear distribution news for the Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) sequel Pretty Boy, the film’s creative team is continuing to create. Last year, we heard that filming had wrapped on a giallo thriller called That’s a Wrap, the first film from Neon Noir, a production company formed by Blind and Pretty Boy director Marcel Walz, screenwriter Joe Knetter, and star Sarah French. Now production has also wrapped on the second Neon Noir project, a horror film called Garden of Eden!
Directed by Walz from a script by Knetter, Garden of Eden has the following synopsis: The Eden family are devout Christians and do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back,...

Neon Noir, the production company formed by Marcel Walz, Sarah French and Joe Knetter, has wrapped principal photography on their second movie, titled Garden of Eden.
Bloody Disgusting has been told that the film, shot in the LA area, “tackles heavy subject matter that will no doubt lead to some controversy during its planned film festival run.”
Exclusively check out two first-look images plus the poster and expect more soon.
In Garden of Eden, “The Eden family are devout Christians and do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back, the family throws garden parties. Each guest that is lucky enough to find a key gets to have their most wished for dream come true. But a dream for some can be a nightmare for others.

Forty years ago, Charles Bronson starred in a serial killer thriller called 10 to Midnight. Now Bronson look-alike Robert Bronzi has taken the lead in a thriller called 12 to Midnight… but Bronzi is going to have to face off with a supernatural threat in this one. The villain in 12 to Midnight is a werewolf!
Currently filming in California and the coal regions of northeast Pennsylvania, 12 to Midnight is being directed by Mark Savage (Purgatory Road) from a screenplay he crafted with Joe Knetter, producer Jeff Miller, and cast member Tom Parnell. Based on a story by Miller, the film concerns a detective, kicked off the force and despondent after the murder of his wife drives him to drink, who is asked back to the force when a new string of murders seem connected to his wife’s, and the killer appears to be taunting him. Only the killer may be superhuman,...

Spoiler Alert… I f**king loved Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar.
This was quite possibly the most fun I have had watching a sci-fi movie as of late… Any budget! You know you’re in for an absolute ride when in the first 10 minutes the line “I’m going to bathe in your blood and tears” is dropped. Normally a scary thought if it hadn’t been for the massive lava dragon wormy dinosaur thing moments prior.
I will always be a fan of a movie that is fully aware that it maybe doesn’t have the budget it needs to be the movie it wants to be, but does not let that stand in its way of throwing...

Plot: Space scavengers and a group of mercenaries race across the cosmos in a search for a long-lost freighter that is said to contain great treasure.
Review: I have a lot of admiration for filmmakers who don’t let financial limitations stifle their creativity or force them to minimize the scope of their stories. In that regard, there’s a lot to admire about director Garo Setian’s sci-fi adventure film Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar. Just like the title instantly brings to mind Star Wars, Space Wars is reminiscent of the low budget sci-fi movies producers like Roger Corman pumped out in the wake of the original Star Wars’ success. You know, movies like Battle Beyond the Stars and the movies that featured stock footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. Space Wars just happens to have been made on an even lower budget than those had.

Nutcracker Massacre opens with a pervy delivery guy indulging his inner voyeur at the expense of Clara before a giant nutcracker doll (Christophe Monplaisir; Sandwiched) armed with a sharp icicle teaches him the error of his ways. That’s followed by the inevitable rewind to a couple of days earlier.
Clara’s Aunt Marie (Julie Stevens; Mega Lightning) invites her and her boyfriend Paul to her place for the holidays. She accepts but for reasons unknown Clara is reluctant to tell her aunt that she dumped Paul for cheating on her. She stops along the way and buys a nutcracker from Dimitri for her aunt. But when she arrives she finds she already has a life-sized one, and the one she bought has become a sugar plum faerie.

I’m going to be totally honest here and state that I did not see Marcel Walz’s Blind, of which this film – Pretty Boy – is a direct sequel. A direct sequel in early Friday the 13th style, where this film literally continues exactly after the events of the first movie (which are recapped somewhat in the opening titles) and continue what, I have no doubt, will be an extended series of films featuring our creepy masked-faced killer.
Er, “mask faced killer”, does that sound Just like the Friday the 13th franchise to you? I jest but it seems, given how much this film focuses on blood, guts and gore – much mores than the first (apparently) – that Walz’s is very much following that series footsteps...

Producer Suzanne Desrocher-Romero is in the process of completing her late husband George A. Romero’s first attempt at filmmaking, which tells the story of an African American father and his son.
Although the horror pioneer is often dubbed “Godfather of Zombies,” the unnamed 21-minute silent short – thought to have been shot in 1961 – remains ghoul-free.
The film got shelved, according to Desrocher-Romero, when the “Night of the Living Dead” director’s commercials company Latent Image started getting more work and remained untouched.
Desrocher-Romero, who founded the George A. Romero Foundation (Garf) – dedicated to preserving the director’s legacy – two years ago, is now in the process of “knitting together” a narration and some music for the film, which she hopes to release on the festival circuit later this year.
The narration comprises of a poem, “Romero’s Elegy” (also now the film’s title), which was written by Romero’s...

Legendary horror filmmaker George A. Romero passed away in 2017, but it seems like he’s in the news now more than in the last few years before his untimely death. First it was announced earlier in 2021 that a “lost” Romero film called The Amusement Park had been rediscovered and restored, and would premiere this month on horror streaming service Shudder. It’s essentially a 53-minute public service announcement about aging and elder abuse, commissioned by the Lutheran Society back in 1973 and filtered through the filmmaker’s nightmarish worldview, and it’s more than time it sees the light of day.
But then last month, Romero’s widow, Suzanne Romero, told The Hollywood Reporter that her husband had been working on a final film in his iconic Dead series, tentatively titled Twilight of the Dead, before his passing. So when we had the chance to jump on a Zoom call with Suzanne this week,...
