Most games only get one shot to make an impression, and because René Rother’s Children of the Sun, a stylish hybrid shooter and puzzle game, is built around a single shot, it really makes the most of that chance. The nameless, masked protagonist has only one bullet per level, but she uses it so deftly, telekinetically guiding it through the air, that it’s all she or the game needs. That’s ultimately for the best, since any sort of plot beyond glimpses of the evil cult leader you’re seeking revenge against would unnecessarily jam up the barrel.
That’s not to say that this is a thoughtless game. You can’t just point and shoot, and the first half of every level is spent circling your targets, trying to pick out and tag the yellow-clad cultists among the darkly hued environments, as if you’re playing the...

Children of the Sun is a pulpy fever dream developed by one man and published by Devolver Digital. If you took Suda 51’s Killer7, and combined it with Sniper Elite, SuperHot and Mandy, then you’d end up with something resembling René Rother’s Children of the Sun. It works beyond just being a dynamic piece of visual art too, containing some extremely satisfying gameplay that feels crunchy and tactile.
Children of the Sun is out now for PC.
Let’s just get the discussion of the game’s visuals out of the way first, because Children of the Sun is truly striking to look at. In terms of its presentation, it resembles a particularly nasty 70s grindhouse movie that has been thoroughly soaked in bleach. It is extremely stylish, at times reminding me a lot of the visual flair seen in El Paso, Elsewhere.

The anticipated remaster of Grasshopper Manufacturer’s Shadows of the Damned now has a new title and confirmed platforms. Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will arrive later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Wishlisting is available now via PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. And, if you’re attending Pax East this weekend, you can get a chance to play the demo of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered at the NetEase Games booth.
Described as a “hot-blooded, hellishly twisted, feverishly filthy, love and hate filled road trip”, Shadows of the Damned (in case you didn’t know) is from the minds of Goichi Suda aka Suda51 and Shinji Mikami.
Originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, Shadows of the Damned put players in the boots of Garcia Hotspur, a hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter who finds...

While Grasshopper Manufacture isn’t involved with the upcoming remake of Lollipop Chainsaw, they are quite involved with the newly-announced remaster of Shadows of the Damned. The remaster was teased as part of the announcement last night that the developer would be having its showcase next week as part of Summer Game Fest.
Scheduled to air on June 15 at 12am Et, the Grasshopper Direct special 25th anniversary program will include details on Shadows of the Damned: Remastered, a remaster of the 2011 action-adventure title that was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. On the creative side, the game saw Grasshopper’s Goichi Suda (aka Suda51) teaming up with Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami.
Published by Electronic Arts, Shadows of the Damned centred on Garcia Hotspur, a motorcycle-riding demon hunter who has to rescue his girlfriend Paula, who has been kidnapped by the Lord of Demons. It’s unclear at this time...

What the hell is “Let It Die”? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you. Well, there are some things I could say about it. I could describe how it plays, or I could talk about how it’s a modern action/adventure game built through the lens of a video arcade. But what I couldn’t really tell you is what the point of it all is. And that’s probably what its godfather, the incessantly enigmatic Japanese game developer Goichi “Suda 51” Suda, would want. ” Let It Die,” which is planned for release on the PlayStation 4 some time this year,...

The PlayStation 4 remains the dominant console of this generation so far, and even though the Xbox One is rapidly improving, both in terms of features and public opinion, Sony still has the upper hand. Heading into E3 with this in mind certainly gave Sony an edge, and although Microsoft nailed it with a great conference, Sony had plenty of reveals and announcements to counter. There were remasters of older games, long awaited sequels and some new IPs, with some exclusives that would make any Xbox owner a little jealous.
Here's our list of the best upcoming exclusives coming to the PS4 in the next year.

Suda 51, creator of Lollipop Chainsaw, is back with more killing, only this time, it's serious. Coming exclusively for the PS4, Let It Die promises to be an experience that you will need to wash away. Debuting at yesterday's Sony conference, not much is known about the game yet, except that it is brutal. That word gets tossed around a lot these days when it comes to gaming but have a look at the trailer and you'll see what I mean.

The latest project from Goichi Suda, better know in gaming circles as the revered, wholly idiosyncratic Suda 51, has been revealed as Let it Die, a PlayStation 4 exclusive due to release in 2015.
Developed alongside Gung Ho Online Entertainment and Grasshopper Manufacture Team, Let it Die is essentially an all-new horror game with a particular focus on brawler-styled combat. And to gain a gist of its grotesque nature, you can feast your eyes on the reveal trailer below.
In combining live-action elements with batches of gory gameplay footage, the trailer paints a horrifying, albeit brief, picture of what we can expect from Let it Die. As the video above hints at, it seems Suda 51’s upcoming scarefest will force players to experiment with a variety of weaponry — including a spiked baseball bat and a rather horrifying morning star — thereby granting in-game attribute bonuses.

The big conferences have kicked off E3, and we take a look at what Sony had in store for us...
News
Sony's E3 conference was a veritable game-fest, with a slew of new announcements, some expected, some rumoured, and others that surprised us. It was a good overall showing, and one that certainly didn't hold off on big reveals and updates.
Big hitters we already knew about were given pride of place ahead of their respective launches. Such triple-a's as Destiny, The Order: 1888 and Far Cry 4 were highlighted, with Far Cry 4 offering he ability for friends to jump into your game even if they don't own a copy. Battlefield: Hardline got a new trailer, and looks suitably impressive, as did the new trailers for Batman: Arkham Knight (with PS4-exclusive Scarecrow content) and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Mortal Kombat X also threw its punches.

McM Comic Con and Memorabilia Birmingham take place this weekend, March 22nd-23rd, at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Unlike the huge event that is McM Comic Con London, this event is on a smaller scale – focusing more on memorabilia and the attending autograph guests. Having always attended the London event we took time out last November to attend our first McM Comic Con/Memorabilia Birmingham and enjoyed it so much we’re heading back this weekend.
But why should you attend? Well here’s out Top 5 reasons to attend McM Comic Con/Memorabilia Birmingham:
1) The Guests
As with any McM event, the guest list for Birmingham is packed with a veritable smorgasbord of actors and actresses from movies, television and anime. Plus for the more grown-up nerds there’s even an appearance from the odd glamour model and porn star!

Yusuke Kozaki might not have been the guest of honor at the recent U.S. debut of the French-run Japan Expo (it was 'Evangelion' character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto), but the video game artist certainly got his fair share of attention. With last spring's "Fire Emblem: Awakening" still fresh in the gamers' 3Ds', Kozaki's character designing style has become all the more recognizable. We caught up with him at Japan Expo to talk about his background, his experiences as a character designer for games, and his music tastes.
MTV Multiplayer: We've seen your work on deviantART though we assume you were also formally trained, correct?
I studied design at an art school during high school and went on to technical school. So I have a background as an illustrator, not just as a character designer.

There’s an ungodly amount of strange stuff in Killer Is Dead, the latest title from the warped mind of the talented yet niche Japanese auteur, Suda 51. Demonic trains will be battled, unicorns will appear out of thin air rescuing people, beautiful women will be interactively and creepily ogled, but most of all you’ll just be scratching your head in confusion for eight or so hours in this this cel-shaded Anime inspired hack and slash adventure.
Killer Is Dead follows Mondo Zappa, an elite assassin geared with a Japanese katana that absorbs blood in one arm, and a biomechanical other arm that lets you shoot lasers and bullets. He is accompanied by a few other oddball characters including his cybernetically engineered boss Bryan, erotically dressed yet dangerous partner Vivienne, and assistant Mika whom doesn’t really work for the agency but was found astray and taken in by Mondo.

I generally consider myself a fan of the works of the eccentric developer Goichi Suda, Aka Suda 51, and his game company Grasshopper Manufacture. Known for games that are utterly surreal and bizarre, their body of work is comprised of such games as Killer7, both No More Heroes titles, and Lollipop Chainsaw, all of which I enjoyed. I do think the company has made some missteps, such as last year’s clunky platformer Black Knight Sword, but I tend to look forward to their latest products.
Because of this, I don’t take any pleasure in saying that Killer is Dead, their latest work, simply isn’t very good. The general gameplay, while showing competence, lacks the charm and fun of their previous work, and the window dressing, coming in the form of off-the-wall story, dialog, and graphical presentation, suffers from the same problem. Much like Grasshopper’s 2011 title, Shadows of the Damned,...

Grasshopper Manufacture have a certain reputation to uphold. With games like "Killer 7," "No More Heroes," "Flower, Sun, and Rain," and "Shadows of the Damned" under their belt, they have established themselves as a studio that thinks well outside the box … so far outside the box that it seems like they've got their own box no where near the other box. It's also impossible to talk about Grasshopper without invoking the name of their fearless leader, Goichi Suda, better known as Suda 51, who has been pushing the limits of electronic entertainment for the past two decades. Grasshopper and Suda's latest release, "Killer is Dead," presents yet another twisted tale, told through beautiful graphics, and wild gameplay, falling right in line with many of the games that already bear their names.

The latest from Japan's preeminent gonzo game maker, Suda 51, is almost upon us. "Killer Is Dead" arrives in America this month, on the 27th, though back in its native homeland, the game just came out.
And in Japan, a brand new launch trailer has also just been released. One that offers more than simply a bite sized taste of the game; weighing in at over eight minutes, a lot of ground is covered.
Some might say too much. Destructoid was one of the first major outlets to publicly state that "enough is enough", that showing too much of the good might result in zero surprises.
So the following should be approached with caution, though diehard Grasshopper Manufacture might at the very least fast forward to the 7:02 mark:
Yup, Juliet Starling, star of Suda's previous game, Lollipop Chainsaw, makes a guest appearance. Or something.

We also cover some of the fallout from the abrupt cancellation of Fez 2, the newly announced Tomb Raider comic by Gail Simone, JDot's recent Steam spree, my experience so far with Shadow Run Returns, and for Colartibles we spotlight the Hot Toys Exclusive Mandarin Mansion Assault Tony Stark, and instead of Kickstart This, we highlight the other side of the coin with a project that went belly-up (lets call it Don't Kickstart This). When listing game designers that have their unique spin put into their products, a few names pop to mind, such as Suda 51, David Cage, and of course American McGee. Famous for American McGee’s Alice and its sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, McGee’s twisted version of Wonderland has taken gamers on some of the most disturbing rides of their lives. Despite the many interpretations of Lewis Carroll’s initial novel, McGee’s remains the most inspired, twisting Wonderland into a world that resides somewhere within Alice’s head, corrupted by her insanity after a tragedy that leaves her without a family.
Recently, McGee and his development company, Spicy Horse, have begun to branch out into using Kickstarter to fund their future projects. Although OZombie, an adventure contained within a warped version of Oz, failed to reach its goal, a new campaign seeking to produce short films based on the...

Gonzo game maker Goichi Suda, who often goes by the nickname Suda51, is presumably putting the finishing touches on Killer Is Dead at this very moment. It’s due August 27. So what next?
According to Siliconera, referring to rumors published in unspecified Japanese game magazines, Suda's next game will be published by Namco Bandai; a 2D side-scroller called Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day.
Here's the interesting part: it's supposedly based upon Short Piece, the latest film from Katsuhiro Otomo, best known as the creator Akira.
Short Piece is comprised of four short films, each directed by a different person, with Otomo being one of them. This is similar to Memories, which was the same deal, and also included Otomo, except there were only three stories in that one.

Regardless of which side of the pond you purchase Killer is Dead on, launch copies of the game will include a few extras that are sure to please Suda 51 fans. The first run shipments of the game will come packaged with an 80-page hardcover art book, a soundtrack CD with 25 songs, and a code for the “Smooth Operator” downloadable add-on pack.

The last time I checked on "Killer is Dead," Grasshopper Manufacture's imminent future-noir curio, director Goichi Suda was ruminating on his appreciation of television and how it's influenced the structure and marketing of his game. Since then, though, publisher Xseed has released three new trailers that have somehow slipped between my cybernetic hyper-fingers.
"Killer is Dead" has garnered a fair amount of buzz on the strength of its visual style, Suda 51's institutional flair, and the fact that protagonist Mondo Zappa has a robot arm and gets to go to the Moon. The third trailer introduces some things I'm -- pardon the pun -- less jazzed about. Namely, the game's Mondo Girls, a group of women included in the game as an homage to 007's traditional Bond Girls.
Real talk: Bond's vaguely non-consensual sexual encounter with Sévérine (I had to look her name up) --...

Suda 51 continues to showcase his crazy antics in the latest video for his upcoming game Killer Is Dead. Unfortunately, the entire trailer is in Japanese without subtitles, so any form of plot is lost on me, but at least you can still get a look at how the action title plays. Be warned though, this trailer is not safe for work as it features both an excessively large amount of blood and a man wearing nothing but a golden leather harness. Yes, you read that correctly.
Much like Suda and his team’s other titles, Killer7 and No More Heroes, Killer Is Dead has a very unique cell shading look that oozes with style. In this all-new trailer, fans can get a glimpse into the more suave side of executioner Mondo Zappa, and are introduced to “Mondo Girls” Natalia, Scarlett, Koharu. A new in-game location on the Moon – a key narrative element in the...

Saying that you need to “expect the unexpected” when viewing a new trailer for a Suda 51 game is an understatement of monumental proportions. For example, never in a million years could I have guessed that the latest Killer is Dead trailer would feature the game’s assassin protagonist, Mondo Zappa, traveling to the moon to combat the evil forces of a busty “certified blood-drawing nurse” (named Scarlett) who is flying around witch-style on a giant pink syringe.
Not only was I not expecting the naughty flying nurse, but I can safely say that the very idea of such a thing has never even occurred to me. And yet, here she is — giant pink syringe and all.
Outside of the flying evil moon nurse, the latest Killer is Dead trailer also includes several shots of the game’s Gigolo Missions (which has players seduce girls, and use “Gigolo Glasses” to...

We caught up with executive producer Goichi Suda at Gdc last week, and he explained (among other things) that his upcoming cyberpunk action game "Killer is Dead" is named after the Smiths' The Queen is Dead album-- arguably their best. (Real talk: "Cemetry Gates" is my favorite Smiths' song.)
Those familiar with Suda know that he's long gotten away with his eccentricities: all of the assassins in 2005's "Killer 7" are named Smith (collectively, they're "the Smiths), and all of the discoverable courier memos are named after Smiths songs. From his obsession with hired killers -- "Killer 7," "No More Heroes," and now "Killer is Dead" -- to his use of bright, cel-shaded visuals, Suda's got a signature, unshakeable style when it comes to his studio's work.
All that Suda51 trivia leads me to the most recent trailer for "Killer is Dead," released yesterday -- not only does...

Tabletop gamers, prepare to respond with vigor as board game maker Plaid Hat Games has announced that their next title is May's "Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia."
It's only appropriate that a game that's so deeply embedded with the last century's media will itself cross media in a new format to tell its story.
So will you be one of the Founders or the Vox Populi? These are the two factions available in "The Siege of Columbia," which is set during the events of the game as both sides attempt to take control of the floating city. The goal is to take control of the aerial dystopia district by district, moving between each using Sky-lines, using leader characters like Vox leader Daisy Fitzroy and the mysterious Songbird to turn the tide of battle. According to the game's official page, you can expect some manner of resource management by increasing...

The more I learn about "Killer Is Dead", the more I think Suda 51 is making his "Mission Impossible 2". In other words, I'm not yet convinced it will present anything new that I haven't seen in his other games, not that's automatically a bad thing. Like John Woo's 2000 film, "Killer Is Dead" feels like a greatest hits collection of themes, characterizations, and visual stylings of Suda 51's previous works. It calls to mind the assassins of "No More Heroes" and "Killer 7" and the love story of "Shadows of the Damned". More than anything, it feel like the darker sibling of "Lollipop Chainsaw", both in tone and gameplay. This is something I can go for, though I hope the emphasis on thoughtful swordplay implies that "Killer Is Dead" is an improvement over the unremarkable combat of "Lollipop Chainsaw".

While no two Suda 51 games are exactly the same, there are a few common elements that his fans have come to expect from any project that he is involved with. The majority of the Japanese developer’s games tend to feature well-written and interesting dialog, heavily stylized graphics, and a story that contains a deeper (not always obvious) meaning. They are also usually a tad bit on the crazy side, and the latest trailer for Killer is Dead proves that it is no exception to that rule.
The new Killer is Dead trailer starts off innocently enough with the Brian Execution Firm’s newest assassin, Mondo Zappa, having a glass of wine and a “meaning of life” discussion with the company’s half-cyborg owner, Brian Roses. It is at that point where things take a turn for the strange, as we find out that someone has apparently stolen the...

Grasshopper Manufacture founder Goichi Suda (Suda 51) and GungHo president Kazuki Morishita have teased the development studio’s next project — which will follow the worldwide summer release of Killer is Dead – in a new Famitsu interview this week. Suda 51 did not reveal the name of the new project, however, the concept artwork that he provided to the magazine has led to speculation that it could be No More Heroes 3.
“Yusuke Kozaki, who’s been working with us ever since No More Heroes, drew these,” Suda 51 told Famitsu, via Polygon. “This is the new Grasshopper’s first title [since joining GungHo], so we’re having him really nail down the art-related stuff first here. I suppose it’s become darker and more strongly flavored as we’ve gone through concept meetings with it, to the point where I wondered if it was really okay to go forward with some of this stuff.

Up to this point, domestic Suda 51 fans have largely been forced to rely on poor Google translations of Japanese coverage for news on his latest project, Killer is Dead. This is usually not much of an issue, however, Suda 51 games are notoriously (and brilliantly) difficult to understand all on their own — doubly so when there is a language barrier. Fortunately, the Western marketing for the game is now starting to ramp up thanks to Grasshopper Manufacture’s North American publishing partner, Xseed Games, who has just re-released Killer is Dead‘s debut trailer with the English voice actors.
For those of you who have not been keeping up with Suda 51′s latest, Killer is Dead takes place in the “not-so-distant future” on a world that is similar, but not exactly the same as our own. Players take control of a 35-year-old man named Mondo Zappa, who takes...

Xseed -- a publisher that specializes in localizing and distributing Japanese games in the States -- made news late last week when they announced a North American publishing line-up for 2013 that includes Goichi Suda’s slick, stylish action game, “Killer is Dead.” That’s well and good, as is the news that the game will be released in the States this summer.
The first inkling of Xseed’s plans came last month when the company registered a few “Killer is Dead”-related web domains, including “killerisdead-game.com.” Here’s the twist: in the time between Xseed’s domain registries and official announcement, Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio developing the game, was acquired by GungHo Entertainment Online.
GungHo is primarily focused on publishing MMORPGs, particularly the uberpopular “Ragnarok Online,” though they’ve made a habit over the years of buying small, innovative companies -- their subsidiaries include Acquire Corp.

In their continuing mission to act as publisher for every possible Japanese video game that at least one person in North America wants to play, Xseed Games has announced that Killer is Dead is far from the only title that they are bringing to the West in 2013.
First up on Xseed’s lineup is the release of Ys I & II Chronicles+ for Windows PCs sometime this month. Far from simple ports of the first two games, these will be “enhanced remakes” of the classic games that also mark the franchises’ first appearance on Steam.
Next up Xseed plans to fulfill the wishes of every Wii owner who signed on for Operation Rainfall, and bring Pandora’s Tower to North America. The company didn’t reveal exactly how widespread the release for the localized Wii game will be, but it is set to launch on March 26, 2013 for $39.99.

In a Press Release of Unusual Size, localization specialist Xseed announced their 2013 lineup, which includes a multi-platform console game, a 3Ds game, two PlayStation Vita titles, and two Steam games. That’s a lot of work for a company that specializes in somewhat niche titles, which suggests that the doom-and-gloom we so often hear about the Japanese games industry might not be so dire after all.
“Killer is Dead” is the highest-profile game on the roster, and Xseed’s announcement confirms suspicions we’ve had since the company started registering “Killer is Dead”-related web domains earlier this month.
The action game features an executioner named Mondo Zappa who travels the not-so-distant world offing terrorists and criminals at his bosses’ behest. It also happens to feature interchangeable drill arms for Mondo, and fighting a yakuza riding a tiger. My not-so-secret love affair with designer Suda 51 continues.

Japan-based GungHo Online Entertainment (who is best know for the Mmo Ragnarok Online) announced today that they have entered into an agreement to acquire Goichi Suda’s studio Grasshopper Manufacture (the developer behind Killer 7, the No More Heroes franchise, and Lollipop Chainsaw).
As part of the agreement the studio will not be folded into the parent company, but will instead remain intact with Goichi Suda (Suda 51) at its head and GungHo acting as publisher for the developer’s future titles. This is a similar agreement to how GungHo operates its other acquired studios; Gravity, Game Arts, and Acquire.

Semi-confirming that the hours we spent pouring over bad Google translations of Famitsu reports on Suda 51′s upcoming Killer is Dead game was not wasted time, the video game super sleuth Superannuation has dug up some evidence suggesting that Xseed will publish the title in North America.
Officially Killer is Dead has only been confirmed for a Japanese release this Summer on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however, last week Xseed registered the domain killerisdead-game along with the potential marketing-related domains “killandlove” and “loveandkill”. This is either the domains for something else (and therefore a huge coincidence) or Xseed is doing what they do best, bringing highly demanded Japanese games over to Western audiences.
It is also worth noting that the domain registrations expire in about a year, which would line up nicely with the amount of marketing time needed to launch Killer is Dead in North America sometime later this year.

We live in a era of media filled with cardboard cut out heroes, ad lib level storytelling, and dialogue so plastic it’s hard to tell if wasn’t just written to move the actors to the next scene. Innovators are few and far between, because unfortunately, the idiotic masses decide which movies and games should be considered the “best.”
But thankfully, there are two men are out there being rebels, doing whatever they feel like doing: step forward Suda 51 and Quentin Tarantino – the rockstars of their respective fields, making movies and games that are so odd, yet never feel cosmetic in the strangeness.
It’s a shame that we can’t have more people who feel as genuine or as genuinely talented as these two men, but sadly few have truly recognized Suda 51‘s potential as an artist. He is a punk game-maker, an exploitation specialist in the grandest tradition,...

With the first details and screenshots for Killer is Dead still warm from Famitsu’s printing press, Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games released the title’s debut trailer today — giving us our first look at Suda 51′s latest game in motion.
Anyone who is even remotely familiar with the GameCube cult-classic Killer 7, or the Wii franchise No More Heroes, will instantly recognize some of the story elements and visual style used in the Killer is Dead trailer. Where some might see that as a negative and nothing more than rehashing old ideas, I could not disagree more. It is my firm belief that the gaming world could use more highly stylized games featuring assassin vs. assassin combat.

Suda 51’s next project is all about love and execution, and a man with a mechanical gun-arm…
Suda 51 titles always boast a striking style, be it down to a distinctive graphical approach or an off-the-wall narrative, and the latest Grasshopper Manufacture project, Killer is Dead, is going to be no different.
Demonstrating a very striking, and distinctive visual style, the game stars new protagonist, Mondo Zappa, a world-travelling executioner who’s tasked with taking out ‘S-level’ criminals. Set in the near future, Zappa’s foes aren’t your ordinary criminals, though, but all sorts of crazy creations and mutant weirdos.
Luckily, Mondo’s pretty handy with the sword, and also has a cybernetic arm that functions as a gun and other tools, and can be upgraded as progress is made.

It has been revealed this week that Jay Wilson will be leaving the Diablo development team. Jay, who was the director of Diablo 3 for seven years, has decided to work on other projects within Blizzard. Regarding his departure from the team he stated "I've reached a point creatively where I'm looking forward to working on something new."
2. Killer Is Dead Trailer Released

Nary a day after “Killer is Dead” details hit the web, Japanese trade magazine Weekly Famitsu has posted an English-subtitled trailer for Grasshopper Manufacture’s newest futuristic bloodbath.
The slick trailer oozes style and introduces Mondo Zappa, the game’s protagonist, and shows off his katana and gun-arm. Like its predecessors in the “Assassins” series, “Killer is Dead” carries all of executive producer Goichi Suda’s hallmarks: it’s violent, it’s gory, and it’s beautifully cel-shaded.
It’s also got a blonde woman with eight arms octo-wielding pistols, which is no doubt the stuff of nightmares.
As a sidenote, this trailer is scored with Antonín Dvořák’s 9th Symphony, which seems to be en vogue: Capcom also used it in trailers for their campy space-brawler “Asura’s Wrath.”
“Killer is Dead” will be out this summer in Japan, with “Killer 7” and “No More Heroes” fans hoping for an American release.

Details about "Killer is Dead," a new action game from the developers of "No More Heroes," are spilling out of the most recent issue of Famitsu Weekly. “It’s the first game in the ‘assassin’ series that Grasshopper Manufacture has worked on in a while,” wrote lead designer and industry gadabout Goichi Suda (translated by Polygon), noting that Killer is Dead “picks up where 'Killer7' and 'No More Heroes' left off.”
That’s perhaps most evident in "Killer is Dead’s" cel-shaded, futuristic art direction. “It’s not trying to regress into the past. We’re trying to make a game that we’d only be able to make right now, at this point in time,” Suda writes. “The result is seen in our unique high-contrast shading seen in the graphics, as well as the high speed wrestling-like action."

Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games have been relatively quite about Suda 51′s latest game, Killer is Dead, since revealing the existence of the title shortly before Lollipop Chainsaw‘s launch last year. Thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu, that long silence has now been broken and the first screenshots and plot details for the upcoming action game have been released.
As translated by Polygon, Killer is Dead takes place in a near-future setting and revolves around a 35-year-old man named Mondo Zappa. One day the Brian Execution Firm — which is run by the half-cyborg, Brian Roses — gives Mondo a job offer that has him travel the world on a mission to kill a number of assassins. The enemy assassins in the game are said to include both “cunningly evil geniuses” and others who are actually wanting Mondo to kill them.
To carry out his mission Mondo has access to two different weapon platforms.

"Well, that was odd." It's a pretty standard sentiment to have after finishing any of Suda 51's game, and "Black Knight Sword" is no different. From flying chickens to giant slices of bread doorways, "Bks" takes a very common video game theme, stopping evil, and, in typical Grasshopper Manufacture fashion, frames it in a virtually nonsensical setting. Reminiscent of old school platformers, "Black Knight Sword" is a call-back to all of the pain and suffering of classic games, wrapped in a pretty package. Fortunately, it also comes with the same sense of accomplishment as its 8 and 16-bit predecessors.
"Black Knight Sword" is the story of two sisters who have been at odds since they each came into existence, and it's the Black Knight who is tasked with taking down the eviller of the girls, the White Princess. Assisted by the magical Black Helleborne (also known as the Sword Spirit...

Black Knight Sword, a new title from D3Publisher and Grasshopper Manufacture, the Japanese studio headed by developer Suda 51 (No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw), is now available for download on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. A side-scrolling action throwback to 16-bit era gameplay with a stylized paper cutout look for its characters, the game looks to carry the same quirky charm Suda has become well-known for.
