Catherine Hardwicke’s mixed bag of a dramedy, Miss You Already, about two friends dealing with a life-changing illness, eases its way onto Blu-ray this month. In the interests of full-disclosure, I will mention that I almost had to recuse myself from this review after watching the first half hour. My mother underwent treatment for breast cancer ten years ago and, while her case was different from the one presented on film for many reasons, it was occasionally difficult to separate my own emotions from the film’s emotions.
Miss You Already treats of the occasionally fraught friendship between Milly (Toni Collette) and Jess (Drew Barrymore), two close friends who have always been the most important person in each other’s lives. By far the wilder of the two, Milly is happily married to a rock-star husband Kit (Dominic Cooper), while Jess has settled down in a houseboat with her...

Starting out making music in a garage in a San Diego suburb back in the early ’90s, blink-182 went on to become total game-changers, with members Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker gaining global recognition and selling tens of millions of records along the way.
They changed the pop-punk music scene for good, and they did it in style, with a whole lot of immaturity along the way.
Forced to pull out of headlining summer festivals three years ago to finish up work on their most recent album, 2011’s Neighborhoods, the trio are back this year to play Reading and Leeds, following two warm-up shows in Brixton earlier in the month (which were awesome). William Hurt will play Gregg Allman in an upcoming biopic of the southern rock singer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hurt is set to star as the present-day Allman in "Midnight Rider," an adaptation of the rocker's memoir, "My Cross to Bear." The film will focus on two stories: the rise of the younger Allman's success with The Allman Brothers Band and his wild rock-and-roll lifestyle, and his realization at age 64 that he must get clean and sober in order to survive.
Hurt joins the previously-cast Tyson Ritter, the lead singer of pop rockers The All-American Rejects, who'll play the debaucherous younger Allman. Wyatt Russell will play Duane Allman, Gregg Allman's brother and bandmate, who died in a motorcycle accident shortly after the group released its third album.
Ritter and Wyatt will perform vocals, guitar, piano, and organ in the film, rerecording classic Allman Brothers tracks like "Ramblin' Man" and "Midnight Rider.

William Hurt has been cast as singer Gregg Allman in the upcoming biopic Midnight Rider based on Allman's memoir My Cross to Bear. The All-American Rejects lead singer Tyson Ritter will also portray the musician, playing him during his initial rise to fame with The Allman Brothers Band. While Ritter will depict Gregg Allman's descent into drug use, Hurt will portray him as an older man finally pursuing sobriety. Opening on Valentine’s Day here in the UK, Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 is the sort-of sequel to the blockbuster comedy success, Knocked Up. The original film featured a stellar and impressively diverse soundtrack, including the likes of Bright Eyes, The All-American Rejects, The Clash, and Britney Spears.
And with Apatow at the helm once more, it’s no surprise that the sort-of sequel brings with it another brilliant selection of music for the Ost.
Apatow has reteamed with music supervisor/editor Jonathan Karp for This Is 40, who worked on the original film (and many other of his projects), and the sixteen-song soundtrack is expectedly fantastic. A selection of classic, remastered tracks that sit alongside nicely with younger artists.

All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter is another Hollywood star who dated Taylor Swift for a few months and may have inspired one of her famous break-up songs, Celebuzz is reporting. The two met in December 2011, between the time Swift dated Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor Kennedy, at the Cmt Artists of the Year Awards. Yes, I have too much time on my hands. Here's a new feature that was fun to put together (though quite time-consuming, which makes me worry about my ability to do this every month). I look back at rock, pop, and R&B albums that came out five years ago, ten years ago, etc.

There was much chaos surrounding the creation of this quintet 's second album. Bassist Bruce Palmer, in some ways the soul of the band, was unavailable due to a drug charge deportation, and a string of session players took his place. Stephen Stills, who saw himself as the leader of the group, was feuding with Neil Young, who considered himself an equal, and Young actually quit -- but returned. "The Voice" is back for Season 3 and it really does look like three's the charm for the NBC reality singing competition. Christina Aguilera graduated from leather diapers to leather daisy dukes and with that, she's tuned down her "woo's" and irritating factor. Cee Lo upgraded from mohawks and latex to some silk. With that, he kept his creepy underage lady pick-up tricks to a minimum and his weird new show pet -- in this case, Lady, a Moluccan cockatoo -- was only exploited once. And in general, there was less catty bickering, car salesmanship and the sob stories weren't forced.
But, of course, some things never change -- Christina Aguilera's boobs were out in full effect, Christina Milian was wearing a horrendous dress and talking about "trending worldwide," Carson Daly was sufficiently awkward and there was also a gender ambiguous singer and a "I'm so pretty, but it was...

It's web-delicious.
An adolescent boy's gossamer dreams are beautifully captured in what should deservedly be one of summer's biggest hits, The Amazing Spider-Man. Astutely cast, soundly directly, and penned by a bevy of screendom's top writers who among them have scripted Ordinary People, most of the Harry Potter installments, and Zodiac, this actioner swings from effective drama to endearing teen romance to campy monster brawls, all in glorious 3-D.
That these disparate elements meld so well will be no surprise to fans of director Mark Webb. In music videos such as the one for The All-American Rejects' "Move Along" and in his film (500) Days of Summer -- one of the top 10 indie love stories of the past decade -- he has been able to seamlessly hyphenate "joyful-angst." An adolescent boy's gossamer dreams are beautifully captured in what should deservedly be one of summer's biggest hits, The Amazing Spider-Man.
When the All-American Rejects returned in March with Kids in the Street, expectations were high. After all, it was the follow-up to 2008's When the World Comes Down — an album that continued their string of crossover successes thanks to the hit "Gives You Hell" — and powered by slick first single "Beekeeper's Daughter," Kids looked certain to continue that trend.
Of course, to date, Kids has yet to catch fire. It debuted at #18 on the Billboard albums chart and has subsequently dropped out of the Top 200 altogether. But the Rejects aren't worried by that slow start. In fact, to hear them tell it, everything's going according to plan.
"This is the record where we're trying to prove ourselves as an 'album band.

On their fourth album, "Kids in the Street," the All-American Rejects sacrifice a lot of their youthful vigor and spunk for a newfound maturity and balladry. Whether that's been influenced more by actual growing up or having some success placing songs on movie soundtracks is anyone's guess. Call it Goo Goo Dolls syndrome. If you took the title of "Kids in the Street" to mean that the band would be acting like scrappy youths 13 years into their career, you'd be mistaken. Actually, the title track is one of those wistfully backward-looking...
