Sony Pictures Classics has re-scheduled Guiseppe Capotondi’s The Burnt Orange Heresy for Aug. 7.
The label bought the thriller, which closed Venice last year. It was there that Capotondi and the pic’s stars Mick Jagger and Donald Sutherland won the Fondazione Mimmo Rotella Award.
Pic, based on the novel by Charles Willeford with a screenplay by Scott B. Smith follows a charming and ambitious art critic James Figueras (Claes Bang), who has fallen from grace. He spends his days in Milan lecturing witless tourists about art history. His only glimmer of hope is a new-found love interest, the enigmatic American, Berenice Hollis (Elizabeth Debicki). An opportunity strikes when he is contacted by wealthy art dealer Joseph Cassidy (Jagger) who summons James to his villa on Lake Como and asks him to steal a painting from the legendary reclusive artist, Jerome Debney (Sutherland). Soon, James’ greed and ambition get the better of him,...

Despite being two of the most gifted, sought-after actors in world cinema, it’s something of a surprise to see Colin Firth and Emily Blunt’s Arthur and Mike gain such a low-scale release, with little promotion behind director Dante Ariola’s star-studded, debut endeavour. However the further into this underwhelming picture you get the more apparent it becomes as to why this film has slipped under the radar somewhat, as despite those attached – Arthur and Mike is frustratingly, and overtly, unsubtle.
Firth plays Wallace Avery, a talented golfer who becomes disillusioned with life, and so one day decides to pack up, obtain a brand new identity (‘Arthur Newman’) and leave behind a wife and teenage son, without even the courtesy of a note. While he’s filed under the missing person register, he is in fact embarking on a road trip, seeking pastures new – before he stumbles across the...

The trailer for Arthur And Mike has been released.
Colin Firth stars in the romantic drama as a once-talented golfer who fakes his own death out of desperation to escape his current life.
After acquiring a new passport and a fake identity, he begins a new life in Indiana and encounters the similarly-troubled Charlotte (Emily Blunt), a woman travelling under her twin sister's identity.
The pair embark on an escapist road trip together, breaking into empty homes and role-playing new identities, but are ultimately forced to confront their own pasts.
The film is director Dante Ariola's debut feature, and is written by Becky Johnston. It was released in the Us last year under the title Arthur Newman.
Arthur And Mike is released in the UK on June 27.

Title: Arthur Newman Director: Dante Ariola Starring: Emily Blunt, Colin Firthm Anne Heche, Philip Troy Linger, Sterling Beaumon, Kristin Lehman, David Andrews, Peter Jurasik. What a cliche to call a man ‘Newman’ to epitomise his urge to start anew. And this is just the first of many commonplaces that you may find in Dante Ariola’s flick. ‘Arthur Newman’ is the new identity Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) buys after staging his own death. His ex-wife and son hate him, he hates his job and he blew his one shot at living his dream to become a professional golfer. Not wanting to face all of this, Wallace becomes Arthur Newman. Chicago – In what could be subtitled, “The Challenge of American Accents,” the new release “Arthur Newman” has a laugh-inducing U.S. inflection face-off between Brits Colin Firth and Emily Blunt. Amid that obstacle, there is a lame road picture that emotionally is false, and makes no sense.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The film wants to create a mystery, but doesn’t want to solve it. The name “Arthur Newman” has been purchased by a man for reasons that really don’t become clear. Arthur has committed a crime against his ex-wife and family, but that crime is not clear. And when he does hit the road with his new name, he meets a strung out fellow traveler who may be a hooker, but resolves herself rather cleanly and becomes a spunky companion. All the so-called emotional connections between the two are based on a high concept adventure, and features little chemistry between them.

"If you don't have a life, get someone else's," is the tagline on "Arthur Newman," a black comedy about identity from first-time feature director Dante Ariola. It stars a couple of people with lots of history inhabiting other people's lives: Oscar-winner Colin Firth as the title character, a middle-aged man who fakes his own death so that he can give himself a different name and a different life, and "Looper" star Emily Blunt as a fragile young woman with her own secrets. The film premiered at last September's Toronto International Film Festival,...

Penned by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) the film will shoot for 25 days in Western Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. Lots of people want to escape their past. Wallace Avery wants to escape his present. Which he does, pretty much before the opening credits are over in "Arthur Newman."
That's to be his new name. Plainly, he's given it some thought in advance, as he meets the unsavory dealer in phony IDs (M. Emmet Walsh), purchases the sort of car he figures Arthur Newman would drive (a late-model Mercedes 380 Sl convertible) and fakes his death.
The pleasures of "Arthur Newman" come from figuring out the life he left, the dream he clings to for the future and the traveling companion he stumbles into on his way from Orlando to Terre Haute, Ind.
Colin Firth gives Wallace / Arthur a nice end-of-his-tether depression and desperation. He's been laid off from Fed Ex. He's divorced and estranged from his teenaged son (Lucas Hedges, quite good). He's dating a woman (Anne Heche) who is constantly disappointed in him.

What if we are all Arthur Newman? This is the question that director Dante Ariola and screenwriter Becky Johnston raise in "Arthur Newman," their tepid, imaginatively uninvolved drama about two strangers that fall in love while trying to escape their banal past lives. Ariola and Johnston’s film follows a rag-tag couple, played by Colin Firth and Emily Blunt, who bond when they discover that they both want to run away from their respective families and create new lives for themselves. But because "Arthur Newman" is a drab, psychologically flat portrait of misfit lovers in the process of self-fashioning new identities, we never really learn who its two main characters aspire to be or in what new direction they want to take their lives. All we know is that Arthur and his new girlfriend like to play hooky from their day-to-day existence, and that experience inexplicably changes everything. Firth stars as Newman,...

Hello, Newman: Ariola’s Meditation on Getting a Life Fails to Have One
For a film whose tagline aggressively demands, “If you don’t have a life, get someone else’s,” Dante Ariola’s directorial debut, Arthur Newman, is noteworthy only because it stands as a flaccid attempt at detailing one duo’s attempt at reinventing life, or something like it. A dull man decides to reinvent himself with a new identity, escaping his rather vague and contrived past, until he conveniently meets a loosely written kooky female character, and their experiences teach them about the value of embracing yourself and your responsibilities. Oddly starring two well known British actors as the woebegone American leads, it’s a tedious character study that forgets about characterization.

Sometimes the fiercest enemies figure out a way to become friends. Which explains why Cinedigm, according to the Los Angeles Times, is turning to BitTorrent . the service many in the industry equate with online piracy . to help promote the independent film Arthur Newman, starring Emily Blunt and Colin Firth. In an unprecedented deal, BitTorrent will offer to its users the first seven minutes of Dante Ariola.s drama-comedy. Why on Earth would they do such a thing? Oh, maybe it.s because BitTorrent boasts 170 million users, and if Hollywood can figure out a way to turn them into paying customers, this will be a major step. This isn't technology against content creators. It's an example of technology and content creators working together to figure out how we can help both of our businesses grow." In theory, yes. In "Arthur Newman," a dark indie comedy that premiered Monday in Toronto, Colin Firth plays a depressed divorcee who fakes his own death and adopts a new identity to forge a new and better life. The role marks Firth's first lead one since his Academy Award-winning turn as King George VI in "The King's Speech," yet despite their obvious differences (the titular Arthur Newman is a modern day Yank), the film finds Firth once again getting inside the mind of a guy at odds with himself. It's been a year since Emily Blunt teased Arthur Newman to Vulture. "Two Limeys came in and stole some very American parts," she said. "We both play social misfits, and Colin is my new favorite person." Well then. Onto the trailer: Firth's character is having a crappy life, he's lost his stuff on the golf course, so he opts to take on a bunch of different identities alongside Emily Blunt. He may or may not be vocally channeling Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. Is this a golf movie? Is it hilarious? Serious? Can't quite tell. But the trailer does its job in intriguing us. Set for April 26, Arthur Newman is Dante Ariola's directorial debut and the first script by Becky Johnston since 1997's Seven Years in Tibet.

Who is Arthur Newman? That is the very question at the center of Dante Ariola's directorial debut Arthur Newman. Penned by Seven Years in Tibet scribe Becky Johnson, this original dark comedy stars Colin Firth as Arthur Newman, formerly Wallace Avery. See, Avery was a man who'd lost much of his assets and forward momentum. A divorced golf pro thought to be past his prime, he's an annoyance to his girlfriend, a has-been on the circuit, and a disappointment to his son. So, Avery opts out of this floundering life by faking his own death. Firth describes his character and his drastic decision thusly: "They called him the choker because he would always choke on the final hole [in golf]. His marriage proved unsatisfactory. His relationship with his son is unsatisfactory. He has a bad relationship with his current girlfriend. And he just decides not to accept it.. Newly minted ...

This is one for the rumour mill, but it will definitely make for an interesting discussion among fans in the days and weeks to come, until we hear confirmation one way or another.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Emily Blunt (Looper) and Ruth Wilson (Luther) are currently vying for the role of Ms. Marvel in the upcoming The Avengers 2, the sequel to this year’s immense superhero blockbuster from writer-director Joss Whedon.
Until now, there’s been no word of Ms. Marvel’s involvement in the sequel, which is precisely why this is one for the rumour mill, at least for the time being.
Blunt is currently in cinemas alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis in Rian Johnson’s Looper, which has been earning universal critical acclaim in recent weeks, as well as doing fantastically at the box office last weekend in its first three days. She’ll...

Toronto — A man living in quiet desperation and a woman whose suffering is a good deal less inconspicuous try to jettison unwanted identities in Arthur Newman, a road film that (thankfully) has less to do with golf than its synopsis might suggest. Landing leads Colin Firth and Emily Blunt helps the commercial prospects of director Dante Ariola's feature debut, and Firth makes a convincing dive into the title character's psyche; some plot elements may give critics pause, but for a not-quite romance its commercial prospects are solid. It's possible to write an interesting movie about bored and boring people. Unfortunately, this is not one of them
Life got on top of Wallace Avery. He disappointed himself one too many times. So he faked his death, ran away from his son and girlfriend and took up a new identity: Arthur Newman. Sounds exciting? Well, Arthur Newman likes eating hot dogs and wearing polo shirts, he dreams of becoming a golf coach. Bear in mind this is Wallace Avery's fantasy, how he would choose to spend his time if he could have it all again.
The flat-out dullness of Arthur is the point of Dante Ariola's debut feature, but it's also its undoing. Spending time with Colin Firth as this stupefying character is like spending time with a flan. Or a pair of cords. Or a tax return. Or dry cleaning. It's more fun to list the things...

Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Dante Ariola, "Arthur Newman" also stars fellow Brit Emily Blunt as a troubled woman who meets Firth's character on his journey and decides to follow suit. Together the the pair embark on a cross-country spree of life-swapping and bed-hopping. Firth sat down with Indiewire in Toronto to discuss the concept of starting over, his ties to America, and living...

It takes some doing to make the only interesting thing about a character the fact that he has faked his own disappearance and assumed a new identity. Nevertheless, the title character in “Arthur Newman” – played by Colin Firth at his dourest – proves to be such a bore that it’s downright miraculous he finds the gumption to pull off this piece of “Passenger”-like subterfuge in the early scenes of this relentlessly drab and thoroughly enervating debut feature by Dante Ariola. The script by Becky Johnston (“The Prince of Tides,” “Seven Years in Tibet”) is a hefty serving of Middle American angst that becomes more leaden and aimless with every passing moment. Not even the usually sprightly presence of Emily Blunt – who plays a troubled woman who becomes Arthur’s traveling companion on his quest to remake himself – offers any respite from the tedium created by this lugubrious, self-important and ultimately.

With Tiff 2012 officially kicking off (follow our complete coverage here), it means the unveiling of many films that have gotten next to no publicity thus far — and today, we’ve got our first footage of three of them. First up, we have our first look at the four players that make up Yaron Zilberman‘s A Late Quartet – Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Christopher Walken and Mark Ivanir – as one of them (Walken) reveals he has been diagnosed with Parkinson. Imogen Poots and Wallace Shawn also make up the supporting cast.
There’s also the first clip for Neil Jordan‘s Ondine follow-up, the vampire tale Byzantium. Here we can see Saoirse Ronan dropping off one of her victims in a surprisingly poignant clip. Perhaps this is one tale on the blood-sucking creatures that will prove to be worthwhile. The film also stars Caleb Landry-Jones, Gemma Arterton, Sam Riley, Jonny Lee Miller and Daniel Mays.

I tipped this as one of the hot titles of this year’s Toronto Film Festival. The Dante Ariola-directed comedic love story is being sold by CAA and UTA and premieres here Monday. Colin Firth and Emily Blunt star in the story of a depressed divorced dad who fakes his death and adopts a new identity, then meets a troubled woman who spurs him on to new heights during a cross-country road trip. Becky Johnston wrote the script. Here’s an exclusive clip:...

Starring the excellent Emily Blunt and Colin Firth in the leads, Arthur Newman will be making its world premiere at Tiff next week, and given the cast, there’s naturally some significant anticipation surrounding it.
With its premiere only a few days away, we’ve now got two new images of Blunt and Firth to share, both looking as brilliant as ever; a rising young star and a class act.
“We are all actors in one sense or another. Who among us hasn’t at some point longed to become someone else? Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) knows that longing all too well. Divorced, dissatisfied, with a young son (Sterling Beaumon) who resents him so badly that he won’t even talk to him, and a new girlfriend (Anne Heche) already tiring of his anomie and inattentiveness, Wallace feels he’s got nothing worth hanging onto. So he takes a step that many dream of,...

It wouldn’t be Oscar season without a Colin Firth drama and since his Coens-scripted Gambit got pushed to 2013 we’ve got another film taking its place. I now have to accept the fact there will be several films showing at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival that I simply won't be able to see. I have gone to Cannes three straight years and this will be my third year in Toronto and of the six festivals I've never seen a line-up packed with so many highly anticipated films and today the fest added even more. Sending out the complete line-up today the fest has added three films to their Galas selection and 18 Special Presentations along with several Contemporary World Cinema selections, the latter of which includes James Ponsoldt's Smashed which is said to feature a performance from Mary Elizabeth Winstead that may be up for Oscar consideration. The announcement confirmed Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master will be part of the Special Presentations selection as will Brian De Palma's Passion, a remake of Love Crime...

Los Angeles — Music is highlighting the Toronto International Film Festival with a Michael Jackson documentary from Spike Lee and a closing-night film featuring Vanessa Redgrave as a terminally ill choir singer.
Organizers announced Tuesday that Redgrave's "Song for Marion" will close next month's Toronto festival, which runs Sept. 6 to 16 and is one of the key cinema gatherings that kick off Hollywood's fall movie lineup and Academy Awards season. The film directed by Paul Andrew Williams co-stars Terence Stamp and Gemma Arterton.
Lee's documentary "Bad 25" also is playing the festival, marking the 25th anniversary of Jackson's 1987 album "Bad." The film features footage shot by Jackson himself along with interviews with such stars and music producers as Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Sheryl Crow and L.A. Reid.
