In the past 14 years, Stand Up for Heroes — the annual benefit presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival — has raised $60 million to help veterans, service members and their families overcome whatever hardships they’re facing.

And we have a lot more depression that has now been triggered by the withdrawal out of Afghanistan. The people served for 20 years and it ended very quickly and unexpectedly.”

New York-based author and journalist Lee Woodruff will be the keynote speaker for The San Diego Union-Tribune’s second annual CaregiverSD Community Expo at Liberty Station on April 13.
Lee Woodruff Delivers Keynote at the 2019 Caregiver Expo

Crystal Blanchette, the personal chef to Prince before his death, said she saw warning signs in the musician’s behavior and tried to warn those close to him at the time.
“There was a change in his moods. Irritable, annoyed, uncomfortable, tired. I felt like I was watching him kind of fade away,” Blanchette said in a new clip from an interview with “20/20.”
The episode, set to air on ABC Friday, will see ABC News Correspondent Bob Woodruff investigate the crisis caused by the proliferation of synthetic opioid fentanyl. Prince died in April 2016 of an accidental fentanyl overdose.
“I had saw someone that I just knew I couldn’t have in my life anymore, and I couldn’t protect him,” she said. “I did share with other people what was happening, and they just chose to ignore it.”

Fentanyl, the super-potent opioid, has emerged as the most dangerous new drug in a generation. For many, it wasn’t a household term until Prince died suddenly in April 2016 after taking the drug. But over the past decade, fentanyl was also a factor in the fatal overdoses of several other rock & roll artists and, last November, rising rapper Lil Peep died at 21 after taking a combination of fentanyl and Xanax. And according to reports, the drug is spreading and being cut into heroin, making the epidemic even worse.

Washington — Michelle Wolf’s monologue at the White House Correspondents Association dinner dominated the headlines coming out of the evening — even if it was a mere sliver of the four-hour event and only a moment in what is traditionally D.C.’s most social weekend.
The surreal aspect is usually the mix of newsmakers on opposite ends of the political spectrum or at odds in other ways — Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ attorney, was at the annual Garden Brunch on Saturday along with Kellyanne Conway.
Hollywood had a presence, although it was much more muted than in previous years. At Hamilton Live, Kevin Bacon and The Bacon Brothers at one point played “Footloose,” as they were the headliners to a series of journalist-bands, including Lester Holt and the Rough Cuts.
