After a rocky rollout, the Liv Golf tour is closing in on its first U.S. national TV deal.
A source familiar with the talks tells The Hollywood Reporter that the Saudi Arabia-backed golf tour is “very close” to a TV deal with The CW, the broadcast network now owned by local TV giant Nexstar. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount also have small stakes in the network.
Specific details of the deal are not yet known (after initially asking for rights fees like other leagues and tours such as the PGA, NBA and NFL receive, Liv is said to have been open to more of a revenue-sharing model), but would nonetheless mark a significant move for the tour, which has waged a bitter public battle with the PGA over the last year or so.
The CW had not returned a request for comment as of writing.

Rumors have swirled of late that the latest big name who may decamp to the Saudi-backed Liv golf tour is TNT NBA analyst and onetime owner of the worst swing in golf, Charles Barkley.
PGA legend Greg Norman is the league’s CEO, and big name U.S. players like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson have already signed on for eye-popping sums. Tiger Woods turned Liv down.
Saudi Arabia’s human rights record, the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi and questions about the country’s ties to the Sept. 11 attacks have many reluctant to partner with Liv for any price. Indeed, families of 9/11 victims have called the decision to go forward this weekend with an Liv tournament at Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, not far from where the attacks took place, “offensive, disrespectful and hurtful.”

Sports networks grappling with widespread cancellations and postponements of not just games but entire seasons used this past week to frenetically prep schedules leaning heavily on new or expanded studio talk shows, rebroadcasts of earlier matchups and library content, if they’re lucky enough to have to have it. Networks and leagues said they’re deep in discussions about rights to air older games and about developing new programming for this coronavirus moment, but just how they’ll be filing airtime is extremely fluid.

During its coverage of the Olympics’ opening ceremony Friday night, NBC aired an interview with two of the event’s co-directors, Brazilian filmmakers Fernando Meirelles (“City of God”) and Daniela Thomas (“Paris, je t’aime”)—though it’s unclear if anyone from the network was listening. Meirelles and Thomas explained the purpose behind the performance, which was to avoid the host nation’s usual navel-gazing (“talking about their belly buttons,” as Meirelles put it) in favor of global issues, connecting the history of Brazil to the specter of climate change.
Perhaps he meant that the navel-gazing would be reserved for NBC: With “Today Show” talent emceeing the spectacle at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium and Bob Costas plugging The Golf Channel from the main set, the telecast had the feeling of an especially expensive presentation at the Television Critics Association’s biannual get-together, laying on the salesmanship a little strong.

While they might not be as flashy and exciting as most other genres on the market, I’ve always had a soft spot for golfing games. They are my go to “rainy Sunday games”, which essentially boils down to games I play to completely unwind and relax, not to mention how I pass the time when it is actually raining outside. There’s a certain easygoing nature to golfing games; a good chunk of your time is spent playing on your own, and there’s a pretty simple learning curve, as most games tend to follow the same basic principles of golf. Line up your shot, hit the ball, rinse and repeat.
Still, I’ve often found that my favorite golf (and by extension, sports) games are the ones that have nailed-down and fine-tuned the controls, and the general feel of how you go about playing. You see, most sports...

The best revenge is living well, unless you're Tiger Woods' former caddy Stevie Williams. Then the best revenge is helping your new boss beat your old boss by 18 strokes in front of a national TV audience.
Williams, who was recently fired as Tiger Woods' looper, joined up with Australian Adam Scott to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational Sunday (Aug. 7) in Akron, Ohio.
In a post-tournament interview with CBS golf analyst David Feherty, Williams pulled no punches, saying, "I've caddied for 33 years, 145 wins now, and that's the best win I've ever had." This is a particularly biting comment considering Williams caddied for Woods for 13 of his 14 major championships and 72 total wins.
Their working relationship fell apart after Williams caddied for Scott at the At&T National while Woods recovered from a leg injury. In a "He said/He said" argument, Williams believed it to be Ok to work...

Over here in Rusty-land it's one of those Wednesday that seems to be taking forever but at the same time every so often I'll look up at the clock and be like "wait, it's what time now? Crap." I find this to be a particular problem with Wednesdays, perhaps because of the transition from first half of the week to second half of the week at least if you're going by the standard Monday to Friday week schedule. Although perhaps I should be more upbeat since according to today's xkcd Wednesday is frequently Ladies' night. Oh, right, there's also some television going on. A few of those reality series that some of you adore, so that's cool. So, here's your Wednesday night TV, which will be on both forever from now and sooner than I think it will:
7:30pm: "Exes & Ohs" on Logo
8:00pm: "Big Brother" on CBS...

Interesting mix of the TV tonight, a bit heavy on the reality series but that's par for the course in terms of summer. I know that many of you are connoisseurs of Lifetime movies and we've got one tonight that is evidently based on the life of Joanne Rowling. Now, I won't deny that her story of going from a single mother on the dole to world famous and obscenely wealthy author is probably an awesome story but the source I found indicates that they're beginning the movie during her childhood which... yeah. Moving on! Also we've got "The Big C" which is the second show in two nights that I've had to write about that is supposed to feature a dying protagonist and yet is into it's second season? I'm beginning to feel that perhaps basing series around characters who aren't meant to be alive too long is a bad idea,...

For a decent number of Pajiba After Dark readers, tonight will probably be the last night of TV they watch for the week since A Dance with Dragons comes out tomorrow so all of them will be eyeball deep in their books/Kindles hastening towards the end of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series that I'm sure George R. R. Martin has completely planned out to a meticulous and thoroughly satisfying conclusion. Awww, now I feel bad. It's not nice to tease about these things, as anyone who was a fan of "Battlestar: Galactica" should be aware of. Now I made myself sad. There's just no winning here. Here's your stupid Monday night TV:
8:00pm: "The Bachelorette" on ABC
"Basketball Wives" on VH1
"Eureka" on SyFy. Fourth season summer premiere.
"Inside the Actor's Studio: Jennifer Aniston" on Bravo
"Secret Life of the American Teenager" on ABC Family...

EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters
My Tiger Woods didn’t win the Masters either.
After making a run for a fifth green jacket, the real Tiger simply couldn’t make up enough ground in the final round at Augusta last Sunday, finishing four strokes back at -10 in a tie for fourth place. Not a bad result for the troubled golfer and, arguably, the best he has hit since his Escalade-hitting-the-fire-hydrant moment in late 2009.

Chicago – As the Tiger Woods controversy has subsided and fans of golf wonder more about whether or not he can reclaim his glory on the links instead of his personal life, a question for gamers has been whether or not the game franchise that bears his name could elevate its game after a few solid-if-unspectacular efforts. In one of the biggest surprises of the year so far, “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters” represents a giant leap forward for the franchise, delivering one of the best golf games of all time.

The woes continue for Tiger Woods off the course.Last year, Electronic Arts made the golfing great share the cover of his bestselling game with Northern Irish rookie Rory McIlroy for the first time ever. This year, following the controversy away from the green and lackluster play on it, Woods has been dropped from the cover of the March 29th release of "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters" on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.Woods has been replaced with a shot of the iconic yellow flag at Augusta National Golf Club, which is a major focus for the new game.Woods will appear on the PlayStation 3 Collector's Edition of the game, which will cost $10 more and include five additional courses.EA Sports has worked with Woods since 1999 on what once was a perennial bestselling title. But last year, sales of the game dropped in the U.S. and around the globe dramatically.

Any number of critics might have some cred when it comes to throwing the penalty flag at a comic who crosses the line into offensive bad taste (as compared to those juvenile exhibitions of bad taste that we all know and cherish, from Mad magazine to Curb Your Enthusiasm), but Mike Lupica of the Daily News isn't that breed of cat. Anyone who has been a personal pal of Don Imus and a regular guest on Imus in the Morning for decades is petty much disqualified from getting all huffy-prissy-frowny beetle-browed ponderific over Wanda Sykes' standup routine at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Lupica has heard a lot crasser stuff on Imus's show over the years from fellow Imus troupers Bo Dietl, Sid Rosenberg, and Bernard McGirk, and didn't, as I recall, adopt a scolding tone after Imus himself lewded up at a Wash DC press bash in 1996 in...
