After vocal arranger and multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Hale died in his sleep of bronchopneumonia on October 30, 1968, at the height of the group's popularity, the rest decided to disband a few months later in early 1969. Hale was only 27 and it is suspected that carbon monoxide from a faulty heating system in his room may have played a part in his death.
