Soccer Aid for Unicef 2023, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV1, Stv and Itvx last week from Old Trafford, Manchester, has raised £14.6 million for Unicef’s vital work giving children around the world the happy, healthy, play-filled childhoods they are entitled to.
Thanks to the generous support of the UK public, Unicef UK supporters, ITV1, Stv and Itvx viewers, this year’s amount brings the current total raised to date, since Soccer Aid for Unicef was founded by Unicef UK Ambassador Robbie Williams in 2006, to over £90 million for children worldwide.
The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out Old Trafford stadium in Manchester – welcoming back over 63,000 fans to the same venue that hosted the very first Soccer Aid for Unicef match in 2006. The match ended 4-2 to Soccer Aid World XI, with the team keeping the overall lead with 7-5 wins since the inaugural 2006 match.

American socialite Paris Hilton said that her on-screen persona was a “trauma response” and a way to deal with the pressures in her life.
The TV personality, 42, was catapulted to fame in the early noughties in show ‘The Simple Life’, where she and pal Nicole Richie swapped their lavish lifestyles for humble homes, reports Mirror.co.uk.

Updated: The BBC has apologized after its Premier League output went into freefall as mutinous presenters and pundits staged a protest over the suspension of Gary Lineker.
The British broadcaster took the unprecedented step of standing down Lineker on Friday afternoon over a politically-charged tweet, but the decision has backfired spectacularly with coverage falling off air.
The BBC said: “The BBC will only be able to bring limited sport programming this weekend and our schedules will be updated to reflect that. We are sorry for these changes which we recognise will be disappointing for BBC sport fans. We are working hard to resolve the situation and hope to do so soon.”
Barbara Slater, the BBC’s director of sport for nearly 14 years, apologized to staff in an email. “We understand how unsettling this is,” she said.

Piers Morgan has shared messages of support for Gary Lineker after the BBC announced that the presenter would be “stepping back” from hosting Match of the Day.
The former England striker is at the centre of a public debate about impartiality at the BBC, after he compared a video unveiling the government’s asylum policy to rhetoric used in Germany in the 1930s.
On Friday (10 March), the BBC said that Lineker would not continue presenting Motd until an “agreed and clear position” on his social media use had been reached.
This led to his co-hosts Alan Shearer and Ian Wright pulling out of presenting the show on Saturday (11 March) in “solidarity”. Micah Richards, Jermaine Jenas and Alex Scott also ruled themselves out of appearing on the show, meaning it will go ahead without any presenters.

Lineker’s Motd co-hosts Alan Shearer and Ian Wright then pulled out of presenting the show on Saturday in “solidarity”, while Micah Richards, Jermaine Jenas and Alex Scott also ruled themselves out of appearing on the show. Scott also said that she would not present Football Focus on Saturday.

On the journey of making my new documentary film “Quintessentially British,” I encountered some quirky lords, charming knights, irrepressible dames and Shakespeare-quoting taxi drivers. I grew up in Ireland, but London has been my home since leaving university. Being an Irish filmmaker allowed me an outsider’s perspective to explore Britishness in the year of the late Queen’s platinum jubilee.
The first day of filming was in the House of Lords with the eccentric pro-smoking hereditary peer, Lord Palmer, or to give him his full title, Adrian Bailie Nottage Palmer the 4th Baron of Reading. He lives in the beautiful 109-room Edwardian mansion Manderston in the Scottish borders. But don’t be jealous, as Lord Palmer freely admits that it has 100 rooms too many.

“The One Show” had quite the surprise for Emma Thompson on Tuesday.
Thompson, who has been promoting “Matilda the Musical”, was appearing as a guest on the show when hosts Zoe Ball and Jermaine Jenas handed her a letter that her late father Eric had written.
Eric, who passed away in 1982, had written the letter to the BBC after leaving the army.
Jenas told the actress, “There’s this letter from your dad to the BBC. So he says he’s just left the army and that he’s been advised to write a letter to ask for an audition with the BBC.
“And I’ll tell you what it says, so it says: ‘I have no broadcasting experience apart from an audition in Birmingham some years ago, but I have had stage experience both amateur and repertory.'”

Channel 4 in the U.K. have commissioned Flicker Productions to produce “Football Trolls” (working title), an hour-long documentary on the relationship between social media, racism and soccer, hosted by former Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder-turned BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas. It isn’t just nostalgia. Aside from that time Dean Goodall’s mum ironed his shell suit then made him wear it to the year seven summer disco, the early nineties weren’t even that much fun. Sir Bobby Robson “put his head on the block” by playing Jermaine Jenas regularly as a teenager at Newcastle United, the former Magpies midfielder believes.
Jenas turned down moves to Manchester United and Leeds United in order to head to Tyneside from Nottingham Forest for £5 million in February 2002 at the age of just 18.
Within a fortnight of arriving in the North East, then-Toon boss Robson handed Jenas a start against Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby and continued to play the teenager, something the ex-midfielder believes helped him earn international recognition by the age of 19.

Noel Gallagher is a man who always has something to say - so he should feel right at home on Match of the Day 2.
The High Flying Birds frontman and life-long Manchester City fan will join the show's regulars this weekend as a guest pundit - so consider this your 'Sunday Morning Evening Call'.
Gallagher will host a feature on his team's fixture against Newcastle United - if it doesn't work out for the Blues at the Etihad, he might be left asking 'Where Did It All Go Wrong', naturally.
The former Oasis star will also offer considered observations on Sunday's fixtures - Southampton v Liverpool, Everton v Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham - giving him a national platform to 'Go Let It Out' (ahem).
Gallagher has appeared on BBC Sport before, interviewing former City striker Mario Balotelli for Football Focus in 2012.
Balotelli reportedly insisted that Gallagher conducted the 15-minute interview,...

Craig Bellamy recently took to the press to slate his former employers, claiming that the supporters ‘expected too much’, scoffing at the possibility of them being mentioned in the same breath as Liverpool and Manchester United. Newcastle supporters might have treated the comments with more surprise were they not just the latest in a long line of slurs and criticisms from former players.
The club has been described as something of a ‘goldfish bowl’ in the past – although Jermaine Jenas has vehemently denied that it was him – but such is the pressure and weight of expectation that players find on Tyneside, the cauldron of chaos that is Newcastle United can often chew up the weak and spit them right back out. Of course, this has left the club open to bitter remarks from scorned ex-lovers, with certain players referring to their former employers as ‘a total...

First impressions are everything. It doesn’t matter what line of work it concerns, an employee always strives to get off to a good start, always to eager to impress and repay the faith shown in him, and in football, it can be even more important.
Newcastle United has been described as a ‘goldfish bowl’ in the past by the likes of former Toon midfielder Jermaine Jenas, and while that doesn’t shine a favourable light on the club, it does highlight the pressures that players find themselves under when faced with a cauldron of 52,000 supporters every fortnight.
With supporters quick to write new acquisitions off after a few sloppy or uninspiring debut performances, the heat can become unbearable, and confidence can spiral badly out of control to the point where players with massive potential end up whimpering and floundering badly. What starts...

Nottingham Forest climbed back into the Championship playoff places as goals from Greg Halford and Andy Reid kept up their record of never losing a home game to Qpr. Harry Redknapp’s side missed the chance to go top at the City Ground.
Halford worked Rob Green in the Hoops goal for Forest after an uneventful opening 15 minutes. The versatile Reds player then blazed over following good work from Djamel Abdoun wide left.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto tried his luck from range up from left back at the other end, but Karl Darlow. Henri Lansbury then won a tackle and the Forest midfielder fired into the side netting.
Just before half an hour the Reds went ahead through utility man Halford. He headed home a peach of a cross from Abdoun. Niko Kranjcar led the response for Qpr, curling wide after some silky footwork.

Tottenham Hotspur are in a period of transition: the dismissal of Harry Redknapp, the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas, the sales of Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart and the signings of Jan Vertonghen, Moussa Dembele, Hugo Llorris and company have all contributed to a drastic year of change for the North London club.
But even with all of the personnel changes, there are still a number of players at the club that simply aren’t needed. Sure, the likes of Niko Kranjcar (to Dynamo Kiev), Jermaine Jenas (to Queens Park Rangers) and Carlo Cudicini (to Los Angeles Galaxy) have departed in the last year, but this represents only the start of what is a very necessary clear-out at White Hart Lane.
Avb is certainly putting his stamp on the club, with the aforementioned signings and change in tactics signalling the start of a brand new era at Spurs, but...

Qpr manager Harry Redknapp could hand debuts to his three new signings Chris Samba, Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend.
Jamie Mackie (tonsillitis) is a doubt but Junior Hoilett is fit.
Norwich manager Chris Hughton could hand a debut to a new signing of his own – Luciano Becchio, following the striker’s switch from Leeds. On-loan Kei Kamara however is not expected to receive international clearance in time.
Striker Harry Kane has been recalled by parent club Tottenham.

Who’d have thought the Premier League’s bottom side would be the most active club on January transfer deadline day?
Harry Redknapp has been waiving his magic wand again and the serial relegation dodger has transformed this once beleaguered, aparently doomed side into one very much capable of beating the drop.
Loic Remy has already hit the ground...

Christopher Samba has passed his medical at Queens Park Rangers ahead of his move to Loftus Road after the Premier League strugglers met the £12.5million release clause in his contract, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Blackburn Rovers defender only joined Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala last year, but is set for a return to the Premier League.
Qpr manager Harry Redknapp said on Thursday morning:
“Samba has signed and that is a massive signing for us. That is the key one.
“He has passed his medical. He was having that last night so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Samba has been playing for Anzhi but manager Guus Hiddink admitted defeat in holding on to the player.
The former Chelsea boss said:
“He left for England yesterday. I hope that today or tomorrow we’ll find out what has really happened.
“It’s a shame to talk about this...

What came as the biggest surprise in football to many this Boxing Day was not the Adam Johnson goal, which saw Sunderland overhaul Manchester City, but rather the inexplicable sacking of Nottingham Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll.
O’Driscoll is the latest man to fall victim of the unpredictable managerial lottery and was relieved of his duties just hours after watching his side overcome Leeds United 4-2 – a team that they were actually trailing in the table prior to the match.
Following two years of disappointment under managers Billy Davies, Steve McClaren and Steve Cotterill respectively, Sean O’Driscoll had appeared to be moving the team in the right direction.
Forest have made a reasonably strong start to the season, and currently lie only one point of the play-off places in the nPower Championship. They also possess arguably one of the strongest squads in the league, much of which was...

Sky Sports News reports the breaking news that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a feee with Fc Porto for the signing of Joao Moutinho. Reports are the fee agreed is a Spurs record spend of £22 million.
25-year-old Moutinho would likely be a replacement for Luka Modric, who this week moved to Real Madrid in a deal worth over £30 million. He would also beef up Spurs’ midfield options with Rafael van der Vaart expected to join his old club Hamburg today and reports today suggest Jermaine Jenas is also on his way out of White Hart Lane before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.
The reported agreement over Moutinho’s transfer comes just hours after Spurs boss Andre Villa-Boas told reporters at a press conference that signing the midfielder who he managed at his time at Porto would be “impossible”;
“It’s an impossible deal for the club,”
