A lot of people have been talking about Benjamin Morris’ 538 piece, “Are Pro Wrestlers Dying at an Unusual Rate?”
Like Morris, I am neither an actuarial scientist nor a demographer. So, our interpretations of the data should be taken with a grain of salt. My results were somewhat different from Morris’ due to a difference data set and changes in how we calculated actuarial predictions.
Differences in methodology from Morris
I also used Social Security Actuarial Life Tables, but my “expected mortality rates” for the age groups were not the same as Morris’. For each wrestler, I calculated what their age would have been as of today. Then, based on gender, I looked up the number of lives (out of 100,000) that were expected to still be alive and converted that to a percentage. His analysis looked at wrestlers who were on 20+ WWF PPVs through 2002. I went with a...

If you have watched any of the womens wrestling in WWE, you know the divas scene is pretty dead. Gone are the days when meaningful matches were contested by the likes of Trish Stratus, Victoria, Lita and Mickie James. WWE is in desperate need for a talented women wrestler to revitalize the division, with no current strong opponents available to challenge Aj Lee’s Divas Title reign.
Mickie James could well be the person to come in and add interest to the division. James’ contract was not renewed in Tna Wrestling’s recent cost cutting measures, and James has since been focusing on her “music” career.
Last week however, James made a surprise return in a WWE ring – working as a guest instructor for the week at WWE’s Performance Center in Florida. This news suggests that James and WWE are on very good terms, and makes a return a lot more likely.

Less than two weeks out from Wrestlemania 29, WWE had to pull a lot of rabbits out of their hats to make anyone care about the biggest show of the year. Hell, for the longest time it didn’t seem like anyone in the company really cared about the show and they were just coasting on the brand name of Wrestlemania going right into MetLife Stadium on April 7. Well, in my opinion that all changed last night on Raw.
I know it’s cliché every time wrestling emanates from the city of brotherly love Philadelphia to pull out Ecw reference some not going to do that say it was extreme. But it was definitely way more aggressive than we’ve seen in recent weeks. As competitors showed more fire and intensity than we’ve seen in WWE for some time.

Former WWE superstar Ken Doane (aka Kenny Dykstra from the Spirit Squad) claimed on Twitter this week that John Cena’s current divorce stems from marital problems stemming from an adultery with Mickie James.
Doane claims that Cena had an affair with the now Tna Knockout and former Five Time WWE Woman’s Champion that also ended Doane’s own relationship with her. Speaking to his followers, he said on the social media site today;
“… Broke up with her once I found out she was cheating with John. #Rat.”
The former Spirit Squad member has been on something of a one-man vendetta against Cena in the past week. Earlier he claimed that Cena was a vocal voice in the WWE lobbying for Randy Orton to be fired for his recent suspension and also recalled a moment backstage at a tryout past November at a WWE show where Cena reportedly treated him with little respect.

WWE tapings in Hershey, Pa
Dark Match:
Justin Gabriel defeats Kenny Dykstra (former member of the Spirit Squad getting a try-out match)
Nxt tapings:
1) Percy Watson defeated Derrick Bateman.
2) Jtg defeated Yoshi Tatsu.
3) Titus O’Neil defeated Tyler Reks.
Superstars tapings;
1) Tyson Kidd defeated Trent Baretta
SmackDown tapings;
SmackDown opens with Mark Henry beating up Daniel Bryan backstage (I wish the guy who attended who could into more details… was this a cold opening on the beat down or what?) and Henry brings him to the ring and gives him a World’s Strongest Slam. WWE officials pulled Bryan out of harm’s way and then Henry cut a promo on the Big Show for their Survivor Series rematch. Hopefully they mentioned that Henry got fined or something otherwise it’s not a positive message to put out there for a company who support anti-bullying campaigns.
