Many know him as McA of Beastie Boys fame, but Adam Yauch was a multi-disciplinary artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with an eclectic range of interests and projects throughout his too-short life. (Yauch died in 2012 at the age of 47.) In addition to his musical legacy, he left a profound creative footprint across various industries: He founded the film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories in 2008, directed films and music videos, and was a practicing Buddhist who founded Milarepa, a non-profit organization dedicated to Tibetan independence.

Cagefighter - Derek Cianfrance Despite it premiering almost 10 months ago in Park City, we are very much in Blue Valentine mode in the award season portion of 2010, and if we have it our way, Sundance would somehow put a chokehold on Derek Cianfrance's Cagefighter. The 56 minute docu-essay would be an ideal candidate for a birth in the New Frontier section - which takes on docs that "bend" the form. An impressionistic documentary that follows the intersecting lives of a group of mixed martial arts fighters before, during and after a Las Vegas title fight.
