Any time a good friend shares something with us that we think you'll dig, we're more than happy to share it with you. Such is the case with Unidentified director Jason Richard Miller's new short, Probed. Read on to watch it and learn more!
"After I finished shooting Unidentified, I had some of the UFO set in my backyard so I decided to make the most of it and came up with this fun little abduction short," Miller tells us. "We shot it in just a few hours and had a blast the entire time! I love doing short films because it's a fun, easy way to keep my directing skills sharp without all the hassle of looking for money like you would on a feature. You just write and shoot!"
The short stars Ed Ackerman and David Foy. Check it out below, and look for more from Miller...

Why Watch? It’s been an A.J. Bowen-heavy week, and that’s as it should be. The indie horror staple has proven again and again that he’s got acting chops (as well as literal chops whenever he’s handed an ax), and in Drew Daywalt‘s newest flick, he and Ed Ackerman get to play a little “Who’s on First?” without all the pesky name confusion and baseball. The pair play two friends driving down a long stretch of road having just committed a heinous act of violence. Talking their way through the situation, they have to rationalize their actions and plan a dinner menu. Those looking for blood-splatter and gore won’t be satisfied here. This is purely cerebral, and the joy is watching the chemistry between the two actors as they try to figure out what to do with the…thing…that they’ve killed. It...

Drew Daywalt’s latest short is a clever take on a creature feature.
Written and directed by Daywalt and starring Aj Bowen and Ed Ackerman, Meat follows two hunters who hit an unknown creature and are forced to put it out of its misery. But like any hunter worth their weight in venison, they don’t want to waste a good piece of fresh meat. Even if it is a very magical piece of meat.
Watch Lisa Frank’s worst nightmare come to life.

Now that director Drew Daywalt's Syfy feature Leprechaun's Revenge has come and gone, he can get back to the business of short films. If you like horror suspense, slow-burn thriller style, the producers of The Red House say they’ve got something that's right up your alley. And with post-production just wrapping, it won't be long before you can get The Red House in your house.
Take a look at a few stills, posters, and the cool trailer below. It starts a little slowly but, like the film itself, builds to rush. (And I saw at least two shots in there that screamed Black Christmas; anybody else catch them?) It's written and directed by Gregory Avellone.
That's all we've heard so far on this one, but the trailer definitely makes The Red House look like it has potential. More as we get it!
Synopsis
When Shelby Gordon (Kate French) inherits a house from her paternal grandfather, Isaiah Hill (Walter Olszewski), in the remote woods of Copperhead County, she asks her friends Carissa (Yvette Yates...

Chillerama is directed by Adam Rifkin, Tim Sullivan, Adam Green and Joe Lynch. The film stars the huge cast of Richard Riehle, Adam Rifkin, Ray Wise, Eric Roberts, Joel David Moore, Kristina Klebe, Kane Hodder, Anton Troy, Brent Corrigan, Lin Shaye, Adam Robitel, Ron Jeremy, Ed Ackerman, Aj Bowen, Remy Lynch, Briana McKay Lynch, Joe Lynch, Tim Sullivan, Laura Ortiz and Alice Haig
The film was shot on an extremely low budget of $300,000, but it is still entertaining to see what can be done on this amount of money. The plan is to make more anthologies like this with other directors in years to come. Chillerama is one of those movies that you have to be prepared to switch your brain off from the beginning and just have fun. If you are a fan of anthology horror films like Creeepshow or more recently Grindhouse, you will love this new take on that classic genre.

Shot in the style of a 1950's PSA, the yearly Halloween short from Adam Green and ArieScope Pictures (lucky #13 this year!) has landed online today, taking a lighthearted swing at the illegal downloading predicament. Internet pirates, take warning! The rest of you, watch and enjoy!
"Downloading and You" stars Ed Ackerman (Hatchet II, The Change Up) and Dave Foy (Hatchet II, Chillerama) and features the voice of Kevin Barbare (107.3 FM Boston - The Hillman Morning Show). Visual effects are by Skull Tree Visual FX.
Synopsis:
In the mood to watch a good horror movie this Halloween? Before you do anything the “illegal” way, watch this spoof of 1950′s cautionary public service films and think twice. You know, because there was Internet service back in the 50′s.
Check it out below, and click here to visit the ArieScope Pictures website, where you'll find the entire collection of their annual Halloween shorts for your viewing enjoyment.

It was a chilly night in Los Angeles, California and I was sitting in a cemetery preparing to watch a horror movie that nobody had seen before. That is right, I said a cemetery. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery to be exact, and tonight’s guests were Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Adam Rifkin and Tim Sullivan.
For those that do not know about this cemetery, the greats like Bela Lugosi, Mel Blanc and Johnny Ramone all rest here, and during the summers, you too can rest here at night, with a film and a drink.

See how simple that was? No police in theatres. No shutdowns. No silly controversy. Just pay for your ticket and see a movie about a swamp monster with a wireless belt sander. That's right, kids! The UK will be getting Hatchet II as it was meant to be seen when it opens there in theatres this week. Free of all the MPAA stupidity and hoopla.
According to Adam Green -- "Hatchet II has received an 18 Rating with No cuts enforced. When it opens in cinemas on Friday in the UK - you'll be getting the uncut film!"
We sure could take a page from our friends across the pond.
Below is a list courtesy of ArieScope Pictures of the first round of cinemas where UK fans can catch the film on the big screen starting April 1st. More screens will be added so check your local listings!

Here's some more Valentines Day goodness that I thought you might enjoy! This is a new short film called Damn Love, and it takes the lovable holiday down a little darker road.
The short was directed by Blake Reigle and it's a "black, and red, comedy about the lengths a shy man goes to in order to let the apple of his eye know how he truly feels about her. Horribly, his inability to look her dead in the face and communicate his feelings causes a series of unfortunate events that will keep them apart for eternity."
The short stars Ed Ackerman (Hatchet 2, Frozen), Alexis Peters (Hatchet 2, Valentine's Day), and Colton Dunn (Hatchet 2).
I hope you enjoy the video below, and remember... communication is the key to a successful relationship.

The lone survivor of the first Hatchet travels with a gypsy and a group of hunters to the same swamp where her friends and family died only to face the wraith of the exact same killer, yet again.
Pretty much a remake of the original Hatchet. This controversial sequel is surprisingly bland and uninspired. Hatchet II revisits a formula that's been done over and over and over again. While the cast lineup is impressive, the actors really don't do that much with their roles. The gore is served by the bucket loads, but for the most part the death sequences aren't all that memorable. Hatchet II isn't even really scary or suspenseful. And despite...

Despite having only several titles released this week in our beloved genre, some of them are deemed very worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
While there were strong initial feelings about a Us remake of a damn near perfect foreign film, the end result is hauntingly accessible to fans of both the book as well as its film adaptation, Let the Right One In. How will you feel about it? Decide for yourself this week. Once you're done with your decision making, raise your Hatchets high and get ready to have a bloody good time because the movie they didn't want you to see is finally here! From there after slugging it out in the swamps of Louisiana, get ready to face off against extraterrestrials in Gareth Edwards' Monsters!
So, go forth and bring home these gems. You know how we feel about them.

Another Ottawa International Festival of Animation has wrapped, and a recent move to the vicinity has finally allowed me to attend the legendary event, the largest in Canada of its kind, and renowned internationally as a launching pad for many up-and-coming animators. The industry section of the festival alone - a robust conference that facilitates interaction between animation studios, schools and budding talent - makes the festival unique, but at the head of it all is Artistic Director Chris Robinson, eccentric animation scholar whose curatorial preference for underdog animation ensures that Oiaf stays vital and exciting.
Going through last year's schedule, I was a bit worried that the programming was going mainstream, but any doubts were allayed by this year's feature competition (which forewent some obvious choices - the new Svankmajer, for example - in favour of more personal, low budget productions) and various indie-focused retrospectives.

It's not a complete surprise, but Adam Green's blood-fest 'Hatchet II' has been yanked from theaters in the Us and Canada. If you got to see it over the weekend, count yourself lucky.
Official details are yet to be released, but Adam Green posted the following note from his Twitter account: "To those asking: Yes, Hatchet II Unrated has been pulled from Us theaters. Press release coming tomorrow when we have the full details."
Initial reports stated that the film performed well for the limited release that it had, and of course much kudos goes to AMC Theaters for allowing the unrated release to have the opportunity that it did. We will post all the details of what exactly happened when the information is made available.
This second installment in the now franchise for Dark Sky Films focuses on Marybeth as she escapes from the clutches of Victor Crowley,...

Do you like art? Go see Adam Green's Hatchet II.
By "art," I don't mean the freeze-dried canvases by long-dead Frenchmen. I mean the weird stuff-the over-sized warped objects; the Warhol Death series; the stuff that would have starved its creators to death if not for the daring generosity of a private collector.
And I'll be blunt, because that's the kind of film Hatchet II is. In this case, you are that private collector. The art you're supporting is an unrated, vision-driven film.
Is the film itself good? Yes - and no. It has as many outstanding parts as it has glaring flaws. For those with an appetite for a gorefest comedy romp, you'll get a feast to remember in Hatchet II.

Adam Green and Dark Sky Films, in association with AMC Theaters, are opening Hatchet II unrated rather than cutting out the good stuff to please the MPAA. So will you listen to the call to arms and support unrated horror?

Last night Hatchet II made its Los Angeles premiere at the historic Egyptian Theatre, and since Dread Central was a co-sponsor of the horror-star-studded event, we were in full force to bring you guys back the goods.
DC's own Heather Wixson and Brian Dreads were on hand rockin' the red carpet, and below you'll find an exclusive video featuring Rileah Vanderbilt, Nick Principe, Adam Green, Sid Haig, Danielle Harris, and more. The evening was nothing short of electric, and the movie delivered one of most violent and fun good times you're likely to have in quite some time.
There were tons of celebs on hand including the Hatchet cast and crew, Derek Mears, Mike Mendez, Dave Parker, Joe Bishara, Darren Bousman, Tim Sullivan, etc. It was like a veritable rogues gallery, and we'd like to take this time to say thank you to Mpi Media, Dark Sky Films, and most...
