Jordan Peele is gearing up to share a new anthology celebrating Black horror. Entitled Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror, the collection is due out on October 3rd via Random House.
Peele — who has earned quite a bit of acclaim in recent years for creating top-notch psychological horror films, like Get Out, Us, and Nope — curated Out There Screaming, handpicking all-new short horror stories by 19 Black authors. He also wrote the foreword for the 400-page collection. Pre-orders are ongoing.
Promising stories that “prey on everything we think we know about our world… and redefine what it means to be afraid,” Out There Screaming is poised to be an inventive entry in the canon of horror fiction. If the sample excerpt — a snippet of N. K. Jemisin’s “Reckless Eyeballing,” currently available to read on the book’s Amazon page — is any indication, fans can expect to dive...

Following the successful run of his Comedy Central series “Key & Peele,” Jordan Peele made a well-received pivot to the psychological horror genre, starting with his 2017 feature “Get Out” starring Daniel Kaluuya followed by 2019’s “Us” with and 2022’s “Nope.” His current catalog of thrillers center on themes of Blackness in America, pitting the sometimes horrifying reality of these experiences against the classic supernatural tropes of scary movies.
Now, the actor, writer and director is releasing a new book, “Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror,” a hard-cover curation of some of the best horror stories from 19 Black writers. Peele edited the anthology and wrote the foreword for the book, which is already a No. 1 new-release on Amazon.

DC confirms that the Hellblazer will return to his roots in a new John Constantine series.
Vertigo might be gone, but the Sandman Universe is still going strong at DC with a new series and second year renewals for all four of its launch books.
The Sandman Universe Presents Hellblazer is a one-shot reintroducing the self-absorbed asshole street magician who's secretly one of the most powerful sorcerers in the universe to the world of comics that birthed him. Constantine's first appearance was in the pages of Alan Moore and Rick Veitch's Swamp Thing, but he quickly migrated to Vertigo, and his family played an integral part in Neil Gaiman and company's original run of Sandman comics. This late October one-shot will be written by The Dreaming's Simon Spurrier, with art from Green Arrow's Marcio Takara, and followed by a John Constantine, Hellblazer ongoing series from...

The 31st-annual USC Libraries Scripter Award honored the year’s best film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based, at a black-tie ceremony on Saturday in the Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library at the University of Southern California. This group of academics, industry professionals, and critics (for which I vote) is often predictive of the Adapted Screenplay Oscar race.
Last year’s Scripter winners were “Call Me by Your Name” screenwriter James Ivory (who won the Oscar), and author André Aciman; past winners include “Moonlight,” “The Big Short,” and “The Imitation Game,” which all won Oscars. In fact, the past eight Scripter Award winners have gone on to win Oscars.
Not this year. Amazon Studios’ limited series “A Very English Scandal,” adapted by Russell T Davies from the book by John Preston, took home the USC Libraries Scripter Award for television, which will compete in the 2019 Emmy race.

The worlds of Neil Gaiman and comics intertwine once more with Sandman Universe #1 from DC Comics! Large, sweeping landscapes and fever dreams abound in this series with artwork by a number of talented artists, with writing by Dan Watters, Kat Howard, Nalo Hopkinson, and Simon Spurrier. Also in today's Comics Corner: RoboCop: Citizens Arrest #5, B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know #9, Her Infernal Descent #4, Oblivion Song #6, and Black Torch Vol. 1.
*Recommendation* -- Sandman Universe #1: "From the mind of New York Times #1 bestselling author Neil Gaiman comes a new world filled with dreams, nightmares, and wonderful characters living together in a shared universe for a new story, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
A rift between worlds has opened, revealing a space beyond the Dreaming. Meanwhile, a book from Lucien’s library is discovered by a group of children in the waking world where it should not exist.

It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since Neil Gaiman launched the Sandman comic series at DC Comics. Gaiman stopped writing Sandman stories about three years ago but he's ready to jump back into the world of Sandman as he is going to expand the universe in four new comic spinoff series that he is overseeing for DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint.
Sandman followed the character Dream, who is both the personification, as well as the lord over all dreams and stories. Over the course of his stories, he has tangled with gods, monsters, and humans. Entertainment Weekly reveals that the new series will kick off this August with The Sandman Universe one-shot special. That special will catch readers up on what’s been happening in Dream’s realm. The report goes on to fill us in on some details of that, saying:
The most salient fact is that Dream has now gone missing,...
