Exclusive: Dennis Quaid has signed on to star in The Hill, a family drama penned by Angelo Pizzo and the late Scott Marshall Smith, who passed away in December.
The film will tell the true story of Rickey Hill, a kid who overcame his physical disability to play professional baseball. Given the complexities Rickey faced in his relationship with his father, his is a story about more than just athletics. It’s also a story about family, and what one young man can do to follow his dream.
Quaid will portray Rickey’s father, Pastor Hill, an instinctively protective man who doesn’t want his son to go out into the world to pursue his dream, fearing that he’ll get ridiculed for his disability. Ultimately, Hill’s tough exterior is broken as Rickey grows up and proves his natural ability.
Jeff Celentano is directing the film, cast by Rick Montgomery (Green Book), which will go before cameras in Georgia in November.
He’s also producing alongside Warren Ostergard, with Matthew Dwyer, Michael Hollingsworth, Michael Blubaugh and Rickey Hill serving as exec producers.
The rest of the film’s cast has not yet been announced.
“I’m setting out to make an iconic film in the classic sense, a beautiful sweeping and powerful inspirational story. One that will stand the test of time like Blindside, Rudy, Field of Dreams and The Natural. Dennis was the first and only person I thought of for the lead role upon reading the script,” said Celentano. “There’s no doubt in my mind that he has the ability to play a loving, caring father while at the same time a staunch, powerful man – all the qualities needed to bring Pastor Hill’s character to life.”
“Since the 1970s in particular, the sports film has gained increasing recognition as one of the most important and popular genres in contemporary cinema,” added Quaid. “I couldn’t be more excited about this project. This film will no doubt further validate the power of American social mobility and show that in America you can choose to be what you want.”
Quaid is an Emmy nominee and two-time Golden Globe nominee best known on the film side for turns in Yours, Mine & Ours, In Good Company, The Day After Tomorrow, Cold Creek Manor, Far from Heaven, The Rookie, Wyatt Earp, Postcards from the Edge and other titles.
The actor’s recent TV credits include Netflix’s Merry Happy Whatever, Amazon’s Goliath and Fortitude, and Crackle’s The Art of More.
He’ll next appear in Alex Ranarivelo’s Born a Champion, Julio Quintana’s Blue Miracle, Andrew and Jon Erwin’s American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story, Ray Giarratana’s The Tiger Rising, Sean McNamara’s Reagan, in which he’ll play the actor-turned president, and more.
Quaid is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.

Seven Below? Sounds like Snow White is missing, but at least we do have space involved in the whole thing. Not funny? Yeah, I thought so.
After all, this has nothing to do with evil queen, dwarfs, and huntsman, because this is the title of EFish Entertainment’s upcoming indie thriller that will have some great cast on board.
Just in case you think I’m hallucinating, check out the rest of this report for more interesting details.
So, here’s the thing. According to the latest reports, Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Luke Goss and Rebecca Da Costa are all attached to star in Kevin Carraway‘s movie that will follow “…a group of strangers brought together when a terrible storm leaves them stranded in a house in the woods where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior.
The group seems trapped in a ghostly time warp, and history is repeating itself.

The indie thriller Seven Below has managed to build up a nice slate of actors for itself, with Variety reporting that the main cast is now comprised of Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Luke Goss, and Rebecca Da Costa. Directed by Kevin Carraway and written by him and Lawrence Smith, the story follows “a group of strangers trapped in a time warp house where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior.”
Kilmer has been attached to the film for several months, and shooting was even set to begin in New Mexico, before a change in state tax credits made the shooting location change to Cincinnati, Ohio. How the aesthetics of New Mexico get replaced by Cincinnati is something I don’t really understand, but filming will commence next month. EFish’s Eric Mark Fisher and Brianna Lee Johnson will be producing, along with Warren Ostergard.

NEW YORK -- Tom Berenger, Michael Biehn and Stana Katic have been tapped to star in the crime thriller Stiletto from producer-director Nick Vallelonga.
The feature, which recently began principal photography, stars Katic (NBC's Heroes) as an assassin whose seemingly random killings puzzle her lover, her clients and the detective following her rising body count. Berenger (Training Day) plays her boyfriend, whose rise in organized crime is offset by his love for her and his Mafia cohort (Biehn of Grindhouse).
Paul Sloan (The Scorpion King) plays the detective and makes his feature screenwriting debut with the film.
The ensemble cast also includes Dominique Swain, Kelly Hu, Diane Venora, William Forsythe, Amanda Brooks and Tom Sizemore.
Stiletto is produced by Vallelonga (A Modern Twain Story: The Prince and the Pauper) and co-produced by Warren Ostergard. The feature is being filmed with Panavision's state-of-the-art Genesis Super 35 Digital Cinematography Camera System.
Berenger's credits include his Oscar-nominated turn in Platoon, Major League and Born on the Fourth of July as well as the upcoming The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey. Biehn, who has appeared in The Terminator, Aliens, Tombstone and The Abyss, will star in the upcoming Kids in America for Universal Pictures.
