Exclusive: Indie distributor The Film Arcade has acquired North American rights to distribute Small Time, written and directed by Niav Conty, and exec-produced by Oscar nominee Oren Moverman (The Messenger).
The film stars Audrey Grace Marshall (The Flight Attendant) Holter Graham (Maximum Overdrive) and Kevin Loreque (Pose).
Conty wrote the story based on a childhood memory and shot the film over the course of three years, allowing time for the young lead to grow up between each act. Lead actress Marshall, a SAG Award Ensemble Nominee for The Flight Attendant, plays Emma, a young girl growing up in rural America in the shadow of the opioid crisis and the “war on terror.” Tossed from one challenge to the next, innocent Emma journeys through the complexities of home, family, faith, and friendship.
Conty also acted as cinematographer, producer and co-editor on Small Time, which marks her feature debut. John J.A. Jannone...

This year’s festival ran online from January 4-10.
Zoe Wittock’s Jumbo has won the New Visions prize at the 17th Bahamas International Film Festival (Biff), which closed its online edition yesterday (January 10).
It is the latest festival recognition for the France-Belgium-Luxembourg co-production, which launched at Sundance 2020 and has also played at Berlinale and Jeonju. It was nominated for the Discovery prize at last year’s European Film Awards.
Wittock’s debut feature stars Noémie Merlant as a young woman who works in an amusement park and finds herself attracted to the new flagship ride.

For their 9th annual edition, the Atlanta Underground Film Festival will be assaulting the south from its Goat Farm Arts Center screening center on Sep. 13-16 with four days and nights of independent feature films, shorts and documentaries.
Some of the feature films screening include Lisa Duva’s multi-dimensional Cat Scratch Fever, Jason Lapeyre’s thriller Cold Blooded and Brady Hall’s hilariously named Hello, My Name Is Dick Licker.
This year’s Auff is also packed to the gills with short films with multiple blocks of shorts screening per day. Some of the special ones to look out for are Neil Ira Needleman‘s A Few Words in Favor of God, Jim Haverkamp‘s When Walt Whitman Was a Little Girl and Mike Salva‘s award-winning animated short Pound Dogs.
