Began on drama theatre and music hall. short bald and stocky man who became one of Cecil Hepworth's most popular stars from 1905, appearing in many early short comedies most often directed by Lewin Fitzhamon, his first starring performance was in 'The Annual Trip of the Mothers Meeting' co-starring Sebastian Smith in 1905, perhaps his best known role as the Uncle in 'That Fatal Sneeze' co-starring Gertie Potter in 1907 and also that same year he played his most popular role Simpkin's in 'Simpkin's Saturday Off'.
