We may live in a post-truth world, but most viewers still settle in to watch documentaries with the assumption that what we’re going to be treated to is at least some version of “truth.” Surely, we think, “truth” is what most documentary filmmakers aspire to.
Perhaps owing to a background that’s in comedy — Lady Dynamite, Comedy Bang! Bang! — rather than nonfiction, Ben Berman doesn’t operate on that level. Berman, who made his documentary debut with 2019’s Sundance entry The Amazing Johnathan Documentary, is more interested in the lengths that people go to avoid the truth. He isn’t angry at liars — he’s not Alex Gibney — so much as he is fascinated with the prevarication itself, not always the motivation for it or the reality behind it.

The Vampire Diaries was serious drama about love and vampires. It ran for eight seasons and launched two spinoffs on The CW. But, the cast and crew kept things light on the set. Vampire Diaries bloopers abounded so it was hard to take the melodrama too seriously.

Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder were on a Television Critics Association panel during season 1 of The Vampire Diaries with producers. The gang already had tales of three different types of bloopers halfway through the first season. The Vampire Diaries is now streaming on HBO Max and Peacock.

"The Vampire Diaries"
Based on the best-selling book series, "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In Season One, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved — in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago.

And we have clips! We tip our fedoras to The CW, the network with the highest our-kind-of-primetime-show count, second only to Syfy. Well done, The CW! And though they canceled one of our shows – sorry, The Secret Circle fans – they’ve brought in two more: The Arrow and Beauty and the Beast.

The CW would like to take over our TVs on Wednesday, with DC Comics-based we’ve-been-waiting-so-long-for-this Arrow at 8/7c, followed by Supernatural at 9/8c. What a great pairing! And Not on a Friday, hooray! The CW, you are now granted our TVs on Wednesday nights.

And about time, too! We had a pretty good indication that Supernatural would be renewed for an eighth(!) season when they announced last month that new showrunner Jeremy Carver would be taking over those duties from Sera Gamble, who has chosen to concentrate on other projects. Still, we kept waiting, and waiting…
Similarly, The Vampire Diaries has consistently scored well in the ratings for The CW, so again we were fairly confident, but still we were waiting to hear confirmation of a fourth season. Today is the day!
According to TVLine, the confirmation is an especially a good thing as Supernatural is set to end the current season with a giant cliffhanger. Which should also come as no surprise. And we have hope that something else good may come with that renewal, as Misha Collins has reportedly advised that he’d love to come back next season… Yes Please.

"Gossip Girl" producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set to produce the feature "The Luxe" at Paramount Pictures, Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Anna Godbersen's book series, the story tracks four teens set in 19th century New York and features conflicts between old money and new money, the upper class and lower class, and star-crossed lovers.
The producers are pegging this as a "young Moulin Rouge", described as a music-driven story featuring contemporary artists and fashion set against a period backdrop.
Bess Wohl will pen the screenplay, while Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy will also produce.

When I first heard about the CW's new show The Vampire Diaries, my whole body seized up, my palms got sweaty and I yelled at some little old lady. The evil curse of angsty teenage vampires had officially manifested itself into every nook and cranny in the entertainment world and there was no escaping it. I could only assume that The Vampire Diaries would be exactly like Twilight, bringing with it the further demise of the vampire genre. When the show started to become a success I turned my head away and violently cursed at all the teenagers and stay at home mom's who had found yet another new breed of Edward Cullen to pine away at.

The Vampire Diaries had as much going against as for it when it first hit televisions, and the show’s popularity is actually somewhat surprising. While the general popularity of vampires, indeed teen vampires, obviously leads to a variety of efforts hoping to cash in, at some point the genre is overworked, and you’re rolling the dice as much as with any other new show.
With not only the general vampire similarity, but also the time-honored “good” vampire struggling against his nature (a key in the other big two at the moment), predicting the success of The Vampire Diaries was not an easy call. Once you get into the territory of what may well be perceived as copycat material, it becomes very difficult to judge what the reaction should be, no matter what reaction (as a critic) the material might deserve.
Through the first few episodes, which nevertheless performed well from a ratings perspective,...

I have to admit I've been missing one of TV's naughtiest bad boys, Damon Salvatore of "The Vampire Diaries", during the show's summer hiatus. Leave it to The CW to fill that void with a new promo featuring Ian Somerhalder as the roguish vamp in question.
Returning for its second season, "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl and battling to control the fate of an entire town. During season one Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons - Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in 1864, while Damon was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch's spell all those years ago. Turning teen novel series into web series is becoming a regular thing for Alloy Entertainment, and why not, it seems to be working. The latest sendup from bookshelves is The Clique from author Lisi Harrison. This time Alloy has teamed up with Warner Premiere to develop a live-action version of the teen drama for the digital distribution. Warner has tapped FM78.tv to produce the series, the new media savvy production company headed by Justine Bateman, Jill Kushner and Peter Murrieta. Murrieta, exec producers of Disney Channel’s Wizard of Waverly Place will executive produce the series along with Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy, who produced the 2009 DVD movie version of The Clique. Kushner and Bateman will co-write the script which is currently in development. By my count, there are 12 books in the series, plus another 5 from a “summer” edition. Each of the books sports cutsy movie puns for...

The three stars of The Vampire Diaries seem to have their own language. They can finish each other's sentences - and sometimes don't even need to finish the thought. Vampire for a day — Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester might trade shows with real life Bff Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev

“Oh my god, I would love to be on Gossip Girl,” Nina, 21, told E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos. “I feel like it’s hard to do because we’re both so busy. But I would love to, and I would for her to be on our show. Leighton would make a great vampire, I think!”
Playing a vamp couldn’t be that much of a stretch for Leighton, 23 … her character on Gossip Girl, the Queen B, is always out for blood.
