The Smiths’ Johnny Marr has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment over the usage of his former band’s songs at Donald Trump’s campaign rallies.
It started on Monday night when journalist Ben Jacobs tweeted that The Smiths’ “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” was being played as the pre-rally music for a Trump speech in Laconia, New Hampshire. Then, journalist Soo Rin Kim replied with a video clip of the song being played at a rally in Rapid City, South Dakota last year — an odd sight that would be even more juxtaposing if it weren’t for the fact that Trump definitely likes to get what he wants.
Now, replying to Kim’s video, Marr has made it clear that he isn’t having any of it. “Ahh…right…Ok,” he wrote. “I never in a million years would’ve thought this could come to pass.

Over the years, the LGBTQ+ community has made significant strides in advocating for acceptance and understanding, challenging norms and promoting inclusivity.
Among the various identities within this community, pansexuality has gained increasing visibility, with celebrities leading the way in breaking down barriers and normalizing love beyond gender boundaries.
Pansexuality refers to an individual’s capacity to be attracted to others regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
We’re taking a look at some stars who have proudly come out as pansexual over the years…

“To me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place. I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically,...

Updated, with comment from Ramaswamy’s campaign: Eminem wants Vivek Ramaswamy to lose “Lose Yourself” and other rap works from his campaign’s playlist.
Music rights management service BMI sent Ramaswamy’s campaign a letter notifying them that Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, had objected to their use of his compositions. (Read the Eminem letter). The BMI attorney, Pamela Williams, also informed them that the Eminem works are being removed from a BMI license agreement with the campaign.
“BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” Williams wrote in the letter, which also was obtained by Deadline.
Ramaswamy drew huge attention for performing Eminem’s Oscar-winning 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month.

“Let’s Make a Deal” host Wayne Brady came out earlier this week as pansexual.
The 51-year-old, who is also known for “Whose Line Is It Anyway” and “The Masked Singer” (which he won in Season 2), made the announcement on Monday via People Magazine.
“I am pansexual,” Brady declared, adding, “Bisexual — with an open mind!”
According to GLAAD, pansexuality falls under the bisexuality umbrella. The LGBTQ+ advocacy organization defines pansexual as “an adjective used to describe a person who has the capacity to form enduring physical, romantic, and/ or emotional attractions to any person, regardless of gender identity.”
A pansexual individual’s sexuality may evolve over time. Brady was formerly married to Mandie Taketa, and the two share a daughter, Maile. He said to People he has been attracted to men in the past, but has never dated one.
Pansexual individuals are sometimes non-binary, but the two are not mutually exclusive.

Panic! At The Disco will be no more, lead singer Brendon Urie announced Tuesday (24 January).
The band, which formed in 2004, will retire after its upcoming European tour, Urie said.
“Growing up in Vegas I could’ve never imagined where this life would take me. So many places all over the world, and all the friends we’ve made along the way,” the singer wrote in a statement posted on Instagram. “But sometimes a journey must end for a new one to begin.”
Urie announced that the upcoming birth of his first child was one of the reasons behind the decision.
“We’ve been trying to keep it to ourselves, though some of you may have heard.. Sarah and I are expecting a baby very soon! The prospect of being a father and getting to watch my wife become a mother is both humbling and exciting. I look forward to this next adventure,...

It’s no wonder the BACARDÍ rum has become known as the drink that keeps its cool, the brand’s reputation for resilience runs deep.

Another day, another Taylor Swift fan theory - and we really hope this one is true. It all started on Sept. 29, when Nick Jonas uploaded a rather chaotic video to TikTok that featured a glitch reminiscent of the one seen in Taylor's "Wildest Dreams" TikTok. By now, Swifties know that there are no coincidences when it comes to the Taylorverse, so fans immediately became suspicious that this might be a sign of a potential collaboration between Taylor and the Jonas Brothers.
Later that day, Nick uploaded another TikTok responding to a comment asking who edited the earlier video, while Taylor's song "Me!" played in the background, drawing an even bigger connection to the singer. In the video, Nick takes a bite of a slice of pizza, another familiar symbol in the Taylor Swift fandom. Taylor herself got involved by commenting on Nick's video "iconic," followed by the pizza emoji.

The technical categories at the VMAs are often some of the most interesting and hardest to predict. Unlike the main categories, these are not voted on by the general public, but by special juries of music insiders. Let’s take a look at which videos could grab one or two Moon Persons on September 12.
SEEWho’s hosting the 2021 VMAs? Doja Cat gets the coveted gig Best Art Direction
This category seems to favor visually busy music videos with a lot going on. So I would say that, unless Lil Nas X sweeps all his technical nominations for “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” “911” by Lady Gaga or “Best Friend” by Saweetie and Doja Cat seem to more closely resemble past winners. I will give “Best Friend” the edge just based on how creative that video is, but any of the three mentioned shouldn’t come as a surprise.

It might be time for Brendon Urie to panic about more than just disco as Twitter recently decided to crown him the ultimate scapegoat. On Jan. 4, Twitter user razziplier posted, "normalize blaming Brendon Urie for things he didn't do." It didn't take long for Twitter to latch onto that way of thinking and soon Brendon was being blamed for everything from breaking up One Direction and making polar bears go extinct to the downfall of Adobe Flash and being the Zodiac Killer.
Does this mean now is the time to start blaming Brendon for things I did in my childhood? Absolutely. I'm sure my mom would love to hear about how the lead singer of Panic! At The Disco is the reason all of her sweaters shrunk after I did the laundry that one time. Brendon has yet to respond to the current trend; however, he has been quiet on Twitter since June,...

Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are under fire for the use of another piece of music: Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
The singer-songwriter’s estate and Sony/Atv Publishing say that they specifically declined the Republican National Committee’s request for the song, but it was played anyway during the final night of the convention, as Trump delivered his acceptance speech from the South Lawn of the White House.
Michelle Rice, legal representative for Cohen’s estate, said in a statement that they were “surprised and dismayed” that the Rnc would use the song knowing they “had specifically declined the Rnc’s use request, and their rather brazen attempt to politicize and exploit in such an egregious manner ‘Hallelujah,’ one of the most important songs in the Cohen song catalogue.”
She said that they are exploring legal options but also got in a dig at the campaign.

Can Neil Young successfully sue Donald Trump over the usage of his music at rallies? As with so many recent controversies in music, it all comes down to a tricky copyright issue.
Young filed a lawsuit against Trump’s campaign Tuesday, claiming that the president and his campaign team lack the proper rights to play his songs “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Devil’s Sidewalk” at rallies and demanding statutory damages from the politician for willful copyright infringement.

What do members of the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and Green Day have in common with the likes of Lorde, Sia and Regina Spektor? Outside of hordes of fans and albums sold, all have signed an open letter demanding that their songs get clearance before they can be played at political events.
They are among the dozens of big names who are teaming with the Artist Rights Alliance to call on major U.S. political parties “establish clear policies requiring campaigns to seek consent of featured recording artists, songwriters and copyright owners before publicly using their music in a political or campaign setting.”
Also among those inking the letter are members of Blondie, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash and Lionel Richie.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has told the Donald Trump campaign to scrub his “Memory,” joining a growing list of musical artists — from Neil Young to the Rolling Stones — who object to the playing of their songs at Trump rallies.
“Excellent news!!,” tweeted actress Betty Buckley, who played the “Memory”-singing role of Grizabella in the original 1982 Broadway production of Cats. Addressing her Twitter followers, she continued, “Thanks to you guys!! Hippetyhaw!!”
The cease-and-desist letter to Trump’s 2020 campaign over “Memory” reportedly was sent by Webber’s UK-based company, Really Useful Group. The news was reported exclusively today by the New York Post. Deadline has reached out to Really Useful.

Exclusive: President Donald Trump may be looking for a new walk-off song at his campaign rallies now that the Rolling Stones and BMI have put him on notice and threatened to sue if he ever again uses any of their songs licensed by the giant performing rights organization. And now fellow performing-rights group ASCAP says that Trump won’t be allowed to use any of the Stones’ songs in its repertory either – a playlist that includes “Start Me Up,” “Emotional Rescue,” “Waiting on a Friend” and “Angie.”
“At this time, the 2020 Trump campaign has not applied for an ASCAP license and therefore currently is not authorized by ASCAP to perform any songs in the ASCAP repertory (unless they have licensed those works directly),” an ASCAP spokesperson told Deadline. “As is our practice with all campaigns, if the 2020 Trump campaign requests an ASCAP license, ASCAP will inform the campaign of music...

K-pop continues its viewer domination on YouTube. Blackpink’s new single, “How You Like That“, has now shattered YouTube’s 24-hour viewing record, outperforming second place Bts by more than 7 million views. It tallied more than 82 million views during the 24-hour span of the video’s release.
YouTube views in the first 24 hours are generally regarded as veritable indications of one’s rising popularity. However, last September YouTube had to drastically change their methodology after an Indian rapper Badshah allegedly inflated his views via paid advertisements. Since then YouTube Music Charts no longer counts paid ad views within the 24-hour count to better reflect fan engagement.
This isn’t Blackpink’s first time hitting this digital milestone. Blackpink’s last single “Kill This Love” also became YouTube’s most watched in 24 hours during the music video’s release. This accolade was previously held by American pop stars like Taylor Swift with “Me!

You've never heard "Under Pressure" performed like this before. Jimmy Fallon, Brendon Urie and The Roots performed a "social-distancing remix" of Queen and David Bowie's classic hit during Tuesday's at-home edition of The Tonight Show. While some of the musicians used traditional instruments, others had to get creative and use everyday household items, like a toaster, pots and pans, utensils and water glasses. Meanwhile, the Panic! At The Disco star and the late-night host took the lead on the vocals. The original song was released as a single in 1981 and appeared on Queen's 1982 album Hot Space. It's no surprise Fallon wanted Urie to be a...

Fxx’s ‘Dave': Lil Dicky Wants You to See Him as a ‘Human Being, Not Just a 3-and-a-Half-Minute Song’
You may recognize Lil Dicky for his viral rap videos on YouTube, his curly mop of hair, or for those billboards scattered across Los Angeles that feature him popping out of a pair of briefs like a human penis. But the man with a proclivity for telling sophisticated dick jokes through song is known in some circles by his real name: Dave Burd.
Before Burd became Lil Dicky, the famous rapper, he worked, like most of us, at a regular desk job. But then one fateful day in April of 2013, he released the YouTube music video for his song “Ex-Boyfriend” that went viral overnight, changing his life forever.
That’s the origin story that the rapper, who has since collaborated with artists like Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wapp, and Brendon Urie, tells in his brand-new, semi-autobiographical Fxx comedy series “Dave.” Scooter Braun and Kevin Hart executive produce the series,...

Taylor Swift and Netflix reveal new trailer for Miss Americana, a documentary about the pop star becoming politically active.
For more than a decade(!) in the spotlight of pop stardom, Taylor Swift has shaken off the need to get political or strongly suggest her opinions beyond critiques of past boyfriends (or other musicians she has “Bad Blood” with). But since revealing her political views in 2018, she has entered the fray of American discourse. And now she has the documentary to prove it.
Taylor Swift: Miss Americana is Netflix’s first major doc of the New Year, one that partners the streaming service with one of the most popular musicians in the world. Already scheduled for a major premiere at the Sundance Film Festival ahead of its Jan. 31 streaming debut, the film comes with pedigree as director Lana Wilson previously won an Emmy for her documentary After Tiller.
