Spooky season is well underway, which means now is the time when people start consuming anything with even a hint of pumpkin spice flavoring, marathoning horror movies, and preparing for the upcoming new horror releases. After over eight years of waiting, Universal and Blumhouse are finally debuting the film adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's," the Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard-starring horror film based on Scott Cawthon's massively popular video game franchise of the same name. Those unfamiliar with the series might assume the game is just "Chuck E. Cheese or ShowBiz Pizza Place, but make it horror," but there is so much more to this terrifying world.

It's true: "The Muppets Take Manhattan" is getting a fresh coat of paint for its new release on home media courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The third "Muppets" feature film and, sadly, the last one that creator Jim Henson and puppeteer Richard Hunt worked on prior to their untimely deaths, "Manhattan" sees Kermit and the gang graduating from college and headed to New York City in the hopes of turning their humble little stage musical, "Manhattan Melodies," into a Broadway sensation. But as you might expect, the suits that run the theatrical industry aren't quite as enthused about the prospect of a show all about frogs and dogs and bears and chickens and ... stuff.

This post contains spoilers for the two-episode Season Three premiere of Reservation Dogs, which is now streaming on Hulu.
“Bussin,” the first of this week’s two episodes, opens in typical, wonderful Reservation Dogs fashion. A tumbleweed blows across the plains, a Native warrior rides into the center of the frame, and calls out to all us young and old warriors watching from more comfortable surroundings. This is classic Old West right here, but the iconography is instantly undercut by the fact that the warrior in question is our pal William Knifeman,...

Frank Oz is a man of many memorable voices. As Jim Henson's closest collaborator and most trusted Muppeteer, Oz helped shape our childhoods by providing the voices of, among others, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Bert, Grover, Animal, and Cookie Monster. What's perhaps most amazing about his work is how, when you hear him speak in his own voice, you can close your eyes and hear notes of just about every character he originated. He was every bit as virtuosic as Henson in this regard, but it's possible he went on to do his most indelible work outside of his partner's workshop.

Almost every single week, it seems like there's a cool new Lego set inspired by our favorite movies or TV shows. A batch of new Indiana Jones Lego sets are available now, "Jurassic Park" building brick playsets are coming soon, and a huge, new "Batman Returns" Batcave was announced just this week. But the Lego Master Builders in the Lego Ideas community are always looking to the future with some truly stellar ideas for the next Lego playsets they want to see on shelves. It’s always difficult for parents to find entertainment that bridges the gap between kid-friendly and not making you want to bore a hole in your skull with a giant-nailed Drilldo (look it up). In the past few decades, kiddie cartoon purveyors like DreamWorks and Illumination have attempted to bridge the gap by serving up cuddly characters spewing pop culture reference-laden dialogue, penned by Wesleyan grads with a minor coke problem. But the result invariably comes off as slick and cynical: the kids feel bored, the adults pandered to, the...

President Donald Trump — who has faced several charges of anti-Semitism in the past — almost made it through the Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Days of Remembrance ceremony without controversy.
Almost.
While some applauded the solemn tone Trump struck in his remarks at the ceremony on Tuesday, Late Night host Seth Meyers couldn’t help but notice the president’s mispronunciation of the word “Nazi” as “nozzie.”
In his Tuesday night monologue, Meyers roasted the president’s latest grammar flub, pointing out that the word “Nazi” is not supposed to rhyme with Fozzie (as in Bear).

I think it all began when Jimmy Kimmel started doing those unnecessary censorship videos with Sesame Street characters and I just couldn’t stop laughing. Other than Jim Henson, Frank Oz is the most famous man behind The Muppets, as the voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Grover, among others. He’s at South By Southwest right now promoting his new documentary, Muppet Guys Talking: Secrets Behind The Show The Whole World Watched. Variety reports that the “film is a candid, often bitingly funny conversation between Oz and four of his closest colleagues: Dave Goelz (Gonzo), Bill Barretta (Rowlf The Dog), Fran Brill (Little Bird), and Jerry Nelson (Count Von Count), who died in 2012.”
Bringing those beloved characters to life might be enough for some people, but Oz went on to become a director for films like Little Shop Of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and In & Out. He also happened to voice another iconic character: Yoda, who first appeared in Star Wars: Episode V—The Empire Strikes Back.

My World Of Flops is Nathan Rabin’s survey of books, television shows, musical releases, or other forms of entertainment that were financial flops, critical failures, or lack a substantial cult following.

ABC could well be onto both a popular hit and a real, Muppets-worthy gem with its new format, The Muppets...
For their first prime time TV show in many years, the Muppets have gone back to their roots. Indeed, the premise of new ABC sitcom The Muppets is essentially the same as Jim Henson’s original classic The Muppet Show, after just a few adjustments and modernisations.
Whereas The Muppet Show cast Kermit into the haywire happenings behind the scenes of a live, theatrical variety revue, their new, similarly chaotic project is a late night chat show, Up Late With Miss Piggy. Character roles have translated pretty smoothly, with everybody’s new position on the TV show matching their old Muppet Theater jobs pretty well.
Fozzie Bear is now Piggy’s announcer and warm up act, for example, while Scooter is still tasked with all the floor-management and gophering. Piggy’s house band,...

When Muppets creator Jim Henson died in May 1990, it wasn’t just Kermit the Frog who lost his voice; it was his whole enterprise. The Jim Henson Company has struggled ever since to recapture the magic — or at least to remain a viable entertainment brand. A big part of the problem was that word, brand: More than any other set of lovable characters, the Muppets never felt like a product. Between them, Henson and his puppeteer partner, Frank Oz, provided the voices of Kermit, Dr. Teeth, Rowlf, Waldorf, and the Swedish Chef (Henson), and Animal, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and Sam the Eagle (Oz). And they acted them, too, hoisting lovingly crafted creations over their heads. The effect was less like a constellation of salable characters than a repertory company of actors. They didn’t just have recurring bits of shtick: They had neuroses, manias, yearnings, blind spots. They were...

And to think, at one time there were skeptics who claimed that a Muppet film couldn’t be done! That only humans could star in successful films! Boy, did Jim Henson and co. prove them wrong! The Muppet Movie was a huge hit in 1979 and spawned decades of sequels. Now it is available in a Blu-ray/Digital combo pack that is loaded with terrific extras.
The Muppet Movie is essentially a road movie. After meeting a Hollywood agent and learning that a big film studio is holding auditions, Kermit the Frog hits the highway, picking up various friends on the way. First he meets Fozzie Bear, telling jokes in a nasty cafe. Then they meet Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, and then Gonzo and his chicken friend Camilla, and then the incomparable Miss Piggy, and finally Rowlf the Dog. All of these guys decide to head for Tinseltown to hit the big time.

And there was much rejoicing. Though the overall package could be improved, it’s hard to deny the joy of watching The Muppet Movie on Blu-ray for the first time. You may be, like yours truly, a Netflix subscriber who’s watched this 1979 family classic on the Watch Instantly service over the last few months, hoping that the so-called SuperHD upgrade would be enough of an upgrade compared to DVD. It turns out that Disney had a trick or two up its sleeve with regards to this film’s high-definition transfer, though. (Or, possibly, the Netflix SuperHD moniker isn’t 100% accurate, but with a name like “SuperHD,” how could it be lying?) And like most Disney catalog Blu-rays, The Muppet Movie is criminally light on special features, but the few that are present are quite something.

Nicholas Stoller is also reprising his screenwriter role though no Jason Segel or Amy Adams this time. From the brief glimpses it looks like Fey and Burrell steal the...

Starting out called simply "The Muppets 2," then "Muppets...Again!" and now having finally settled on "Muppets Most Wanted," Disney can now start the proper marketing wheels on their felt covered sequel and today brings with it the first teaser trailer. Human faces like Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell also pop into the frame with James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller reprising their director and writer roles (though sorry, no Jason Segel or Amy Adams this time). Artist Dan LuVisi seems to enjoy taking these lovable Muppet characters and turning them into sadistically disturbed individuals. His latest creation pays tribute to the film Drive and features Kermit murdering Gonzo. Here's a note from the artist,
After years of family friendly shows such as the Muppet Babies, The Muppet Show and the Muppet Movie, Kermit and the gang decided to opt for something new and more adult. The idea would be for them to begin parodying more mature genres, such as dramas and crime films.
Their first would be ‘Drive.’

Here's a disturbing piece of Muppet inspired art called "No Country for Old Muppets," and it features Fozzie Bear brutally strangling Gonzo to death. The art was created by Dan LuVisi, and here's the backstory that he came up with for the illustration,
Tired of performing the same routine comedy roles, Fozzie Bear wanted to try something new. He suggested portraying the role that was brilliantly captured by Javier Bardem, as infamous hitman Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brother’s crime-drama, No County For Old Men.
Gonzo was not pleased that he would have to die, again.

During its five-season run (1976-1981), The Muppet Show delighted viewers with its slapstick humor, quirky puppet personalities, and wide array of guest performers, who got the rare opportunity to act, sing, and dance with an ensemble of fuzzy monsters. The show, along with the plethora of movies it spun off, succeed in the tricky task of appealing to both adults and children, and interest in the franchise has been reinvigorated since The Muppets, the first film in 12 years, was released in 2011.
While some of the humour and guest stars on TV program seem antiquated today, the film’s success shows that people still love Muppets.
Here are ten episodes that helped to catapult the Muppets franchise to success…
