Netflix has unveiled its 2023 feature film slate, consisting of 49 titles.
The streamer’s feature slate has slimmed down significantly from 2022, when 86 films were announced. It should also be noted that nine of the films on today’s list were originally set for release as part of last year’s lineup. Those titles are Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man, Jennifer Lopez actioner The Mother, George C. Wolfe’s civil rights drama Rustin, John Ridley’s Shirley, the Adam Sandler vehicle Spaceman, the Jamie Foxx-starring They Cloned Tyrone, the starry comedy We Have a Ghost, Kenya Barris’ first feature You People and South Korea’s Jung_E.
In addition to several of those titles, Netflix has revealed premiere dates for works by such acclaimed filmmakers as David Fincher (The Killer), Zack Snyder (Rebel Moon), David Yates (Pain Hustlers) and F. Gary Gray (Lift) and by TV titans like...

Netflix has dropped the full trailer for You People, its upcoming Kenya Barris comedy starring and co-written by Jonah Hill.
The three-minute teaser for Barris’ directorial debut delivers a fuller look at Hill’s character, Ezra Cohen, and his effort to find love, and more specifically, woo Lauren London’s Amira Mohammed in Los Angeles. At the top of the trailer, Ezra reveals to his friend (played by Sam Jay) his desperation to find partnership amid feeling “alone, on a building, dangling my legs off wondering what it’s like to feel companionship.”
“I don’t think I’ve heard of a man ever who wanted to be in a relationship so badly besides Drake,” says Jay.
Enter Amira, who — following an airport rideshare mix-up in which Ezra mistakes her for his actual Uber driver — causes Hill’s character to reveal that he’s “never felt so understood by somebody in my entire life.

Netflix is rescinding another renewal.
The streaming giant is no longer moving forward with #blackAF Season 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Season 2 was officially ordered a year ago, but with Covid-19 bringing the TV and movie industry to a halt, there have been questions about the viability of the series.
For their part, Netflix canceled Glow Season 4 and The Society Season 2 due to the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.
Still, the story may not be over for the Kenya Barris series.
THR is reporting that the semi-autobiographical sitcom is being redeveloped as a potential film franchise, and that movies are in development.
The news will undoubtedly be concerning for fans of the series, especially because the movie franchise has not officially been ordered.
When projects are in development, a number of things can change, but we'll keep you posted.

Kenya Barris’ comedy “#blackAF” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix, the streaming service announced Tuesday.
The series, which premiered April 17, stars Barris as a fictionalized version of himself, with “Parks and Recreation” alum Rashida Jones as his wife, Joya.
Loosely inspired by the “black-ish” creator’s “irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture” the show “flips the script on what we’ve come to expect a family comedy series to be” and “uncovers the messy, unfiltered and often hilarious world of what it means to be a ‘new money’ black family trying to get it right in a modern world where ‘right’ is no longer a fixed concept.”

Kenya Barris’ #blackAF is returning for a second season at Netflix.
The Black-ish creator will once again play an exaggerated version of himself, with Rashida Jones as his wife Joya, in the comedy.
Barris is a busy fella; the renewal comes days after Deadline revealed that he was teaming up with Happy singer Pharrell Williams to develop a Juneteenth musical feature for the streaming service.
He told Deadline, “I won’t really, really, really get into it until we’re in the room because I want it to be fresh, but I definitely know I want to talk about real shit. We want it to be really special.”
Inspired by Barris’ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture, #blackAF flips the traditional sitcom family on its head. Barris and Rashida Jones star in the show inspired by Barris’ real-life marriage and unorthodox approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture. Originally titled “Black Excellence,” its official synopsis reads: “#blackAF flips the script on what we’ve come to expect a family comedy series to be. Pulling back the curtain, #blackAF uncovers the messy, unfiltered, and often hilarious world of what it means to be a ‘new money’ black family trying to get it right in a modern world where ‘right’ is no longer a fixed concept.”
The Netflix original series stars Barris as a fictionalized version of himself and Rashida Jones as his wife Joya. Kenya and Joya’s children are played by Genneya Walton, Iman Benson, Scarlet Spencer, Justin Claiborne, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Richard Gardenhire Jr.

NBC this year picked five drama pilots to series, New Amsterdam, Manifest, The Village, The Enemy Within and The InBetween, and two comedy pilots to series, multi-cam Abby’s and single-cam I Feel Bad. The network’s surprise passes included Bad Boys offshoot drama L.A.’s Finest starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.
When the dust started to settle on Friday afternoon following the flurry of pickups and passes, word got around that NBC was leaving one comedy pilot alive. Than at 9 Pm that night, the network announced that it was picking up a sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine following its cancellation by Fox the previous day. That created confusion whether that potential last comedy slot went to the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg.

It's been a year since My Damn Channel first launched its Comedy Network, and most of the channels featured in the project have focused on short-form content. Web series like Daddy Knows Best, Romantic Encounters, and Love Me Cat are short, sweet, and punchy, ultimately making for bite-sized Internet fare. With its latest series, the My Damn Channel Comedy Network is bucking its short form trend. It is distributing We Got Next, a TV-length sitcom about an inept rec league basketball team. We Got Next stars a quartet of male leads as four amateur basketball players plucked right out of a Dude Perfect sketch. There's the guy who takes the game too seriously, the violent guy, the guy who thinks he's all that, and the old guy. Most of the series, however, follows these characters off the court, where they chatter about their life problems. The tone, pacing, and setting...
