Jamie Anderson can spin to win in the air, but can she spin to win on the parquet? The two-time Olympic champion is aiming to become the first snowboarder to win “Dancing with the Stars” and will have her work cut out for her against nine other athletes in a shortened four-week season. Let’s break down her pros and cons.
Pros:
Snowboarders may be covered in the baggiest clothes on the slopes and in the halfpipe, but they have some of the sickest and most athletic bods of any athlete. You need tremendous core body strength to be able to launch yourself in the air and get enough height to contort your body to pull off a double cork 1080. Fitness, strength and body awareness shouldn’t be an issue for Anderson, who’s the ripe ol’ age of 27.

Seven sports are represented by the 10 athletes on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” including some of the show’s staples. But which sport’s athletes have done the best on the show? You can probably guess. Let’s look at these seven sports’ “Dancing” histories.
Football (Josh Norman)
As everyone knows, football is by far “Dancing”’s favorite sport. They don’t even try to hide it. Nineteen football players have hoofed it before this season, and while they haven’t all made it to the business end of their respective seasons, football has produced four winners, three runner-ups and two third-place finishers. So, no pressure, Josh, to follow in these pigskin players’ footsteps.

The “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” cast is finally out — and we have thoughts. We’ve got six Olympians on deck — including three figure skaters — two basketball players, a baseball player and your requisite football player. It’s anyone’s game (pun intended) — or is it? Some of these folks have some obvious and not-so-obvious advantages over the others and in a shortened four-week season, that could mean a lot. So before anyone takes their first dance, let’s take a closer look at the cast.

It’s that time of the year again: when “Dancing with the Stars” contestants start to leak before the cast is announced. The first three wannabe hoofers joining the all-athletes season are Olympians Tonya Harding, Adam Rippon and Jamie Anderson, according to Us Weekly.
Harding’s casting is a classic “Dancing” move that checks a lot of boxes: She’s a controversial figure (skater) who was recently thrust back into the spotlight with an Oscar-winning major motion picture, “I, Tonya,” that attempted to engender some sympathy and tell her side of the story in the infamous 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan. And “Dancing with the Stars” is nothing if not about redemption. Speaking of Kerrigan, she competed on Season 24, finishing seventh, and that competitive narrative is a thread “Dancing” wants to pull. “Tonya Harding never won an Olympic medal, but could she surpass the woman whose attack she may or may...

Angelina Jolie had an audience with the pope today in Rome. The director’s second feature, Unbroken, was screened at the Vatican after Pope Francis, who was aware of the incredible life story of the late Louis Zamperini welcomed the opportunity. The Associated Press reports that the pontiff did not watch the screening today, but did have an exchange with Jolie afterward. Jolie was joined by Luke Zamperini, Louis’ son, with Vatican officials and ambassadors in attendance for the film. The awards season contender was shown at the Casina Pio IV, headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) have announced their film and television nominations for the 26th Annual Producers Guild Awards, with winners set to be announced on January 24 and they couldn't have come at a better time... for me at least. I have been spending the last couple of days working on my 2015 Oscar predictions, finally adding predictions for the categories I had not yet set live and putting final touches on those I've had live since March of last year. The Oscar nomination ballots close this coming Thursday, January 8 and you better believe I'm looking at this list to get a better idea of what the industry is thinking. Overall, there aren't any real surprises, though one film continues to make a strong big for a nomination, that being Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler, which has continued to perform well in the precursor nominations. We also see a nomination for...

Paired with its documentary feature nominations, the PGA announced this Monday morning which television shows, specials, and digital series that will compete in the 26th Annual Producers Guild Awards. The PGA Awards nominations honor a little bit of everything, including "Breaking Bad," "Cosmos," "Last Week with John Oliver," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," and the third season of YouTube’s "Video Game High School." Can’t blame the guild for shallow picks. The PGA Awards major TV category, Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, went to the award-devouring programs we know and love. "Game of Thrones," "Breaking Bad," "House of Cards," "True Detective," and "Downton Abbey," will all compete for top honors. On the comedy side, the PGA honored the entire spectrum of laughs: The genre-bending "Louie" and "Orange Is the New Black" facing off against sitcom staples "Modern Family" and "The Big Bang Theory," with "Veep" making fun of them all...

Monday Monday Monday Mondaaaaaay. Sing that to the tune of Louie's weirdly catchy theme song, because the FX comedy is back after the longest hiatus ever, unless you count 24's nearly four year break as a "hiatus." Plus, Beckett found herself accused of murder on Castle, Bates Motel got even more Psycho, and The Blacklist set the stage for an explosive finale. There was also a lot of singing on The Voice, and Dancing with the Stars was also on. Basically Monday was like, "You want some TV? Oh I'll give you some TV!" and then it proceeded to throw all the shows at us at once in a manner we're mostly used to getting from Sunday. It was a pretty crazy night, but you don't have to sweat it because...

Undateable is a “classic throwback sitcom, it cracks me the frick up,” executive producer Bill Lawrence told reporters at NBC Press Day. Though the show is about a bunch of mostly young single guys, it does not push any content envelope, Lawrence said. “One of the things I’m really proud of is, it’s laugh out loud funny without being crass. This feels reminiscent of the shows I grew up loving, like Cheers. I didn’t try to push the envelope too much…If you’re a on a network its hard to compete with shows like Louie or Veep that have no language standards, or nudity standards, or content standards,” he said. Lawrence said he set out to do a multi-camera comedy because it’s “where the networks can compete with cable. I enjoy watching Veep, and Silicon Valley is funny as balls — check it out,” he said.

The Producers Guild of America just announced nominations for the TV portion of the PGA Awards. Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, Mad Men, Homeland and Downton Abbey will compete for best drama series, while 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Louie, The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family comprise the best comedy series field. Not many surprises on the drama side, where all five nominees also landed best series noms at the Emmys this year (Homeland won). But the producers threw a curve ball on the comedy side, recognizing FX’s Louie — which keeps getting shut out of the top comedy race by the TV Academy — while snubbing the most buzzed-about new comedy during Emmy season, HBO’s Girls. On the heels of their first best series Emmy nominations this year, NBC’s The Voice and ABC’s Shark Tank and Jimmy Kimmel Live landed their maiden PGA Award noms. Here is...

So 5:30 (Pst) this morning saw Jimmy Kimmel and Kerry Washington announce the 2012 Emmy nominations, and it served as a good lesson in why not to not give the organization too much credit. Yesterday we'd suggested that shows like "Parks and Recreation" and "Louie" were starting to make major inroads, giving us a little reason for optimism. And there were certainly things to be celebrated in this morning's nominees: actress and comedy nominations for "Girls," typically good showings for "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," and well-deserved nods for two actors we thought were unlikely, Jared Harris and Idris Elba. But it also served as a reinforcement of the middlebrow tastes of the Academy; 'Parks' and 'Louie' failed to repeat their Best Comedy nods from last year, landing only token nominations for their lead actors, while "Downton Abbey" 's weak second season dominated, with...

On Monday night, June 18, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association announced the winners of its 2012 Critics Choice Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles -- its second annual event.
Though "Community" led the pack going into the evening, with six nominations, they only took home one award -- luckily, it was the most important one, for Best Comedy Series. "Modern Family" reigned supreme in the supporting actor categories.
On the drama side of things, "Homeland" won for best series -- and its star, Claire Danes, for best drama actress.
In addition to the winners, the critics also revealed their most highly anticipated new shows with its "Most Exciting New Series" list. Mindy Kaling's "The Mindy Project," and ABC's "Nashville" were the shows they're most excited to see this fall. Kevin Williamson's "The Following," will premiere in January 2013. He was "destroyed" when his partner Martina Navratilova got the boot the first week of Dancing with the Stars, but Tony Dovolani rebounded quickly - thanks to a furry friend. Glee fans vying for Elton John to play one of Rachel Berry’s theatrically-inclined pops, avert your eyes now: It’s not gonna happen.
“He is, unfortunately, touring,” executive producer Ryan Murphy told TV Guide Magazine when asked if John is a contender to play one of the two dads. Murphy did confirm that he is “currently meeting and talking” to actors, claiming, “So many people are interested in playing them.” (And don’t forget, there are always all of these options, courtesy of TVLine.)

As a hard-hitting entertainment journalist, I make it my business to check out as many television shows, movies and new albums as I can. Because of this, I'm a discerning viewer and it takes a lot for a show to stick. The only shows I'd say I'm a regular viewer of are "Glee" (which is currently enjoining a reprieve after a dramatic season-to-season improvement), NBC's weirdo gems "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock," "Louie" (which wrapped up its amazing second season a few weeks back) and Emmy-winner "Modern Family." Late last season, I also decided to get back into "The Office," an old favorite that I'd given up, and am glad I did. Did you see the season premiere last week? It felt like a return to form.
(Note: I know I also should also be watching "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," but I have a harder time getting into dramas,...

It must have been fate that Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders's first child is due in the wintertime. The kid was always destined to be a snow baby. Close friends and family threw a baby shower for the couple this month, and the winter setting and gifts were just perfect for the pro snowboarder and his reality-star wife. More than 30 people flew to Breckenridge, Colo., for the party recently - including Vienna Girardi, winner of Jake Pavelka's season of The Bachelor; Nikki Kaapke, a castmate of Lueders's on Jason Mesnick's season; and pro snowboarder Louie Vito, who competed on Dancing with the Stars.

Last night marked the beginning of the 200th-episode celebration of Dancing With the Stars. What? It seems like the series just started! Not. So many random crops of alumni turned up for this huge ABC event. There they were, in scattered patches of the liiiiiiiive crowd, at once funny, fascinating, intergalactic, and sad. They bothered to show up, so I thought I’d bother to screengrab them in all their return-to-Planet Mirrorballus glory! Judging on ridiculata standards and nothing else, look through the pics and vote in our totally unnecessary poll after the break.

The former ‘Dancing’ contestant says she feels bad for Michael, but can’t understand why he is so surprised by Bruno’s harsh judgment!
It looks like Michael Bolton is not getting any sympathy from former Dancing With the Stars contestant Kelly Osbourne following his recent criticism from judge Bruno Tonioli! Kelly said at Teen Vogue’s 8th Annual Young Hollywood Party on Oct. 1, “I think he was really harsh on Michael Bolton. But when you watch it you can understand why he was really harsh. He’s a judge that’s what he’s supposed to do. You wouldn’t tell Howard Stern “I want an apology” when you go on his radio show. Yes he was hard but, don’t go on a show where you’re going to get judged if you don’t want to be judged.”

HollywoodNews.com: As Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino gears up for ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ former contestants are wondering if he’ll bring his shirtless gig with him.
Louie Vito, who was a part of Season 9, is looking forward to seeing whether or not “The Situation” and his partner play up his trademark move, reports People. “I want to see how many dances he’s going to do with his shirt off,” Vito admits what many others are wondering.
And Vito thinks that the Jersey Shore star actually has a chance, so long as the whole dance package is good. Hopefully he’ll be able to pull it off on his own without the rest of his reality TV cast members.

Although Bristol Palin has vowed to stay conservative with her clothing choices on Dancing With The Stars this season, one former constant is betting viewers will get their fair share of flesh from none other than The Situation. "I want to see how many dances he's going to do with his shirt off," former Dancing contestant Louie Vito told People. "That's his trademark, so I want to see if they're going to play that up or not." Not shy about his physique, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is sure to be shedding some clothing during Season 11 of the ABC hit show.

The pairings for Season 11 of Dancing With the Stars were announced this morning on Good Morning America. It’s sad not seeing Edyta Sliwinska’s name. (She’s left the show to pursue other ambitions, including finishing college.) But we’ll wear imaginary leg warmers in her honor while we offer our quick take:
• Jennifer Grey — Derek Hough: Yep, she’s officially the early favorite. You know that part in Dirty Dancing when Baby giggles as Johnny raises her arm and runs his hand down the side of her body — that wasn’t scripted. Can’t wait to see...

Now that he's officially married, Jesse Csincsak is ready to initiate the next phase of his life. But first, he needs some sleep. "The whole weekend has gone by so quickly," the former Bachelorette star said Sunday, one day after marrying Ann Lueders in Las Vegas's Rumor Hotel. "I haven't had a minute to nap or anything. I think I've had 12 hours of sleep in three days." The delirium is worth it though, as Csincsak and Lueders, both 28, tied the knot Saturday in an outdoor ceremony before a slew of alumni from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Both the bride...

Spoiler Alert! Someone was sent home tonight on Dancing with the Stars. We know, shocking right?! Go ahead, take a minute to regroup. Still, tonight's choice of eliminee was not entirely a surprise (to the audience anyway), but this celeb tells us that the plan was to make it a whole lot further... "I expected to win!" said Niecy Nash immediately following her ouster tonight. Her partner Louie Van Amstel quickly corrected her, saying, "You did not." Trust us, this did not bode well for the pro, who then received a playful tongue-lashing from Miss Niecy. "Oh, yes I did, are you kidding me?" she teased. "I sure did expect to win. Let me tell you what Louie Van Amstel,...
