It’s common knowledge that the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds song “Red Right Hand” is the hit most associated with the Scream franchise. Still, there was another single that almost made its way into scary movie canon with the release of Scream 2 (1997).
Rather than an unnerving anthem for the villain, this song would have represented the complicated triumph of the hero. As it stands, Scream 2 concludes with Sidney standing tall and walking away from the terrors that had been deployed to exploit and destroy her. She’s accompanied by the song “She Said” by Collective Soul, a beautifully reflective rumination on a life filled with loneliness and regret, one in which truth, purpose and forgiveness is emotively sought.
But, as well as the song fits, it was not the first creative choice for the sequel’s concluding sequence. When Bloody Disgusting recently spoke with Grammy and Peabody...

The trailer for season five of The Crown has been released, teasing the next chapters of the royal family’s journey during the 1990s.
The hit Netflix drama series, inspired by the real-life events surrounding the Queen and her family, returns with new episodes on 9 November.
Ahead of season five’s release, a trailer was launched on Thursday (20 October), in which viewers can see new actors portraying the characters – including, notably, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana.
In a prescient nod to the near future in the show’s timeline, the trailer uses a cover of The Verve’s song “Bitter Sweet Symphony” as its soundtrack.
The track was released in June 1997, two months before Diana was killed in a car accident.
Although her death and the aftermath will not be depicted in this forthcoming season, the use of the classic indie track can be seen as a reference to the...

“The Crown” is back, and things are, to quote another prestige drama, not great, Bob.
Netflix finally dropped the first trailer for Season 5 of “The Crown” on Thursday (watch above), teasing a season of turmoil and tumult as the Emmy-winning series enters the 1990s, an infamously difficult time for the royal family. Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) is in crisis mode as the marriage between Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) implodes very publicly. The future (and now current) king calls for a “more modern monarchy that reflects the world outside,” to which his mother coolly says, “I don’t think it’s my behavior that’s threatening its survival.”
Meanwhile, as the woeful strains of a cover of The Verve‘s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” play, Diana laments, “People will never really understand how it’s really been for me. I never stood a chance.” We get...

The Black List of 2011 continues with the second-half of the list showcasing the screenplays that received the most number of votes.
Remember, this is a list voted on by Hollywood professionals of what they personally believe to be the best unproduced screenplays written in 2011. You might recognize titles for movies that are in development. That's fine by The Black List rules; the only condition that the screenplay must meet is that it's not being filmed within this calendar year. For Black List 2011 selections like Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, that makes it valid for Black List inclusion.
If you've missed the first half of the list you can find it here.

The Accountant by Bill Dubuque
The Treasury Department pursues a brilliant, autistic accountant who doubles as an assassin and “problem-solves” with precision in more ways than one.

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.
This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.
It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:
The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.
