If prolific producers Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy and Greg Berlanti are worth a combined $900 million via their overall deals, how did Trey Parker and Matt Stone — who oversee one show, South Park, score $900 million-plus on their own?
The answer to that can be traced back to the duo’s 2007 deal with Comedy Central. At that time, Parker and Stone — along with their longtime attorney, Kevin Morris — negotiated an ad-sharing deal with the Viacom-owned cable network that gave the Colorado natives a 50-50 split with Comedy Central on all digital revenue. The pact also renews “South Park” as a series for Comedy Central through its 30th season in 2027. Bloomberg News reported that the deal was valued at $900 million over the six-year term.
That’s an eye-popping number that includes the license fees for 14 movies and three additional 10-episode seasons of the “South Park” series, produced through the pair’s Park County banner. It’s understood that the deal calls for ViacomCBS to advance Parker and Stone $150 million a year to cover their fees for the upcoming productions as well as their ongoing profit participation stakes from the franchise.

“South Park” has been renewed through Season 30 at Comedy Central and 14 original movies based on the show have been ordered at Paramount+, as part of a new six-year mega deal signed between co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and ViacomCBS’s MTV Entertainment Studios, the company revealed Thursday.
Parker and Stone’s new pact with ViacomCBS’s MTV Entertainment Studios extends their partnership through 2027 and is worth $900 million, an individual with knowledge of the negotiations tells TheWrap. That figure does not include production or overhead costs, the source said.
Representatives for ViacomCBS and Stone and Parker declined TheWrap’s request for comment on the financial aspects of the deal.

Sydney, May 19 (Ians) An international team of scientists, from Australia and the US, has developed an experimental direct-acting antiviral therapy that can reduce viral load by 99.9 per cent and may be a new treatment against Covid-19.
Traditional antivirals, which include Tamiflu, zanamivir and remdesivir, reduce symptoms and help people recover earlier.
The new antiviral approach used gene-silencing Rna technology called siRNA (small-interfering Rna) to attack the virus' genome directly, which stops the virus from replicating, as well as lipid nanoparticles designed at Griffith University and City of Hope to deliver the siRNA to the lungs, the critical site of infection.
"Treatment with virus-specific siRNA reduces viral load by 99.9 per cent. These stealth nanoparticles can be delivered to a wide range of lung cells and silence viral genes," said co-lead researcher Nigel McMillan, Professor at Menzies Health Institute Queensland (Mhiq) at Griffith.
When tested in Sars-Cov-2 infected mice the treatment with...
