New Delhi, June 3 (Ians) The global Tws hearables market managed to sustain its growth trend amid the pandemic as its sales grew 44 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) in the first quarter of 2021, a report said on Wednesday.
According to research firm Counterpoint Research's latest Global Hearables (Tws) Market Report, Apple dominated the over-$100 segment with 57 per cent share, followed by Samsung at 17 per cent.
"In highly competitive markets like Asia and Europe, Samsung achieved a double-digit share with good performance of all the models," Liz Lee, Senior Analyst, Counterpoint Research, said in a statement.
"Samsung successfully introduced the Galaxy Buds Pro, timed to connect with the launch of the Galaxy S21 in January. The company also pushed the sales of earlier models like the Galaxy Buds Live and Plus through aggressive marketing promotions," Lee added.
China showed the highest growth YoY while North America continued to occupy the largest share, the report said.

New Delhi, March 13 (Ians) Led by Apple, the global Tws hearables market normalised in Q4 2020, with growth cooling slightly after two quarters of strong sales driven by post-lockdown buying, according to new report.
According to Counterpoint Research's latest ‘Global Hearables (Tws) Market Report', the fourth quarter Tws sales grew 13 per cent (on-quarter) and 43 per cent (on-year).
In terms of global market share leader there was no big surprise as Apple continued to dominate.
"However, its share steadily declined through the year, shedding 9 per cent to end at 27 per cent overall during the last quarter," said Liz Lee, senior analyst.
Lee singled out Samsung as a particularly strong second-half performer.
"In highly competitive and mature markets like Europe, Samsung's unit sales during the last quarter were notable, notching up a significant 2 per cent QoQ share gain. Its Galaxy Buds Live did especially well," she said in a statement.

New Delhi, Jan 15 (Ians) The annual true wireless stereo (Tws) shipments were expected to grow 83 per cent to 238 million units in 2020, according to a new report, adding that smartwatches will weather the subdued overall wearables market spending to increase 2 per cent to tip the 100-million mark in 2021.
The wearables market is divided into five distinct segments, of which earwear and wristwear comprise the majority of devices.
In terms of smartwatches, demand was expected to wane in 2020 but should pick up this year, according to CounterPoint Research's senior analyst Sujeong Lim.
"The normalisation of economies coupled with increased interest in health and fitness will help the smartwatch market grow. We expect low double-digit growth through the medium term -- possibly higher if average selling prices decline quickly," Lim said in a statement.
Based on the latest figures, premium products continued to lead, with Apple products comprising 29 per cent and 28 per cent of Tws and smartwatch shipments,...

The Twitterverse was ablaze with every color of the rainbow Friday night as New York state became the sixth and most populous in the U.S. to allow gay marriage.
With the bill, which passed 33 to 29 in the State Senate in Albany, the Empire State joins Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa and Washington D.C. in recognizing gay marriage in the United States.
The timing was fortuitous as New Yorkers observe Pride Week, a celebration of the diversity of the Lgbt community.
Lady Gaga, whose Lgbt advocacy has manifest well beyond her songwriting at speeches, rallies and appearances from San Francisco Pride in 2009 to the National Equality March in 2010, and the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards,...

Glover, best known for his portrayal of a college student on NBC's "Community," has just been tapped to serve as master of ceremonies for the seventh-annual Woodies, which will air live on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU on Wednesday, March 16, at midnight, from the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
Glover seems the perfect man for the job. After all, the Woodies are the only awards show where the winners are determined by college students, and Glover is definitely psyched about the opportunity.
"I'm really excited to be hosting the Woodies, (insert joke about award sounding like...

MTV's adorable redhead, Liz Lee, is back for Season 2 of "My Life as Liz" premiering on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 11 p.m. Et.
Things have changed since we last saw Liz not even by a bit, but a lot. She's no longer the senior girl with the nerd herd circling her. In Season 2, Liz says goodbye to Burleson, Texas and hello to New York City.
Our "Star Wars-loving" heroine has moved more than 1,500 miles away from the conservative small town to attend art school. And as the city likes to do, it's beating the poor girl up.
Some things don't change, though. This season promises more angst, more of the robot dance and more crush-worthy boys.
Liz isn't looking back on her once-cool life with doe-eyed nostalgia either. The awkward star tells Zap2it exclusively why she doesn't mind leaving that life behind.
Here are Liz Lee's 10 reasons she doesn't...

Liz Lee, the skinny, red-headed, Star Wars-loving star of MTV's My Life as Liz, is adorable, and I love her. Really. But she's giving me a huge headache. Well, not her so much as the show. I'm trying to write an article about the return of the show -- season 2 begins Tuesday at 11pm -- but I'm having the damndest time describing exactly what the show is, even having watched the entire first season and the first ep of the second; and I'm afraid if I think about it too much longer, my head will explode.
So here's my best go of it: My Life as Liz is a sort-of reality show/quasi-scripted sitcom/kinda sorta like The Hills but much, much better and taking itself way less seriously/high school-ish docudrama (at least I think it's those things -- no one's really clarified), which in season 1 followed our title character (character?...

On Monday night (August 30), the new cast of "Dancing With the Stars" was revealed, and like previous seasons, it's an incredible cross-section of actors, musicians, athletes and whatever category Bristol Palin falls into. The headliners include two championship ring-owning athletes (Kurt Warner and Rick Fox), everyone's favorite television mom (Florence Henderson), a platinum R&B star (Brandy), an actress who once played a dancer (Jennifer Grey) and David Hasselhoff.
The lineup also includes a pair of MTV stars: "Jersey Shore" philosopher Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and "The Hills" vixen Audrina Patridge. If "Dancing With the Stars" really wanted to go all-in with the MTV crowd, they should have made the cast an all-mtv affair, featuring the following network all-stars.

Katie Carman is an up and coming genre director based in the New York area. With her first feature, Eat Me!, she showed potential as she was able to achieve a consistency of tone within the narrative. What is noteworthy about this element in Eat Me!, was the fact that most new filmmakers fail to edit themselves and want to throw everything possible into a film creating a jarring, uneven experience. For her next film, Off Season, she is going the opposite direction mixing elements of psychological terror with the supernatural. Off Season is currently in pre-production, though the movie's filming date is fast approaching. If you would wish to contribute anything towards the film's budget, please visit:

While Liz Lee claims she will never wear a Snooki-style poof, she does see a hairstyle resemblance between her "My Life as Liz" crush Bryson's hair and that of teen pop star Justin Bieber. With their sideswept bangs and dirty-blond locks, they do have twinsie hairstyles. Lee laughs off the similarities.
"The swoop! They have the Bieber swoop!" she joked to MTV News when she stopped by to talk about the "My Life as Liz" season finale. "I feel like Justin Bieber has definitely influenced Bryson as a whole: his lifestyle, his music."
She went on to say that while shooting the show, Bryson would often serenade her with Bieber's tunes. "Bryson often would do a nice little Justin Bieber dance number," she said. "I can't tell...
