Realite
Director: Quentin Dupieux
Writer: Quentin Dupieux
Producer: Realitism Films’ Gregory Bernard
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Alain Chabat, Jon Heder, Elodie Bouchez, Jonathan Lambert
Swiftly churning out his bizarre and wildly entertaining films, we will supposedly get to see a bit of Dupieux in 2014. His latest, the hilarious Wrong Cops got very limited theatrical play in late December, 2013 (Los Angeles denizens had the lucky opportunity to see it courtesy of Cinefamily), but should see some expansion elsewhere. Otherwise, it was announced that Dupieux has filmed a secret project with Marilyn Manson which was inspired by their collaboration on Cops. But while details on that remain scant, we are happy to see another project due in 2014 starring Alain Chabat and Elodie Bouchez (who many arthouse devotees should recognize for a role in Andre Techine’s 1994 film Wild Reeds). Eric Wareheim is also in the cast, so we’re sure this will be strangely entertaining.

French helmers Pascale Ferran (Lady Chatterley), Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi (Actresses) and Quentin Dupieux (Rubber) are all currently in the financing stages of their next projects and figure among the group of six who've received coin aka "advance on receipts" from the committee of the National Film and Moving Image Centre (Cnc). Pascale Ferran will next direct a film going by the title of Bird People - which is co-scripted by the director and Le petit lieutenant scribe Guillaume Breaud. A French supernatural thriller in which a tire-named Robert- comes to life and wreaks havoc with its supernatural powers: seriously- what’s not to like? And this is the plot of the sophomore feature length film by French dance music producer Mr Oizo (real name Quentin Dupieux), Rubber, which premiered as early as May last year and the Cannes film festival to a less than approving reception.
Never-the-less, Monsieur Dupieux took his self-written film on the worldwide festival circuit, including Stiges and Toronto horror festival After Dark where responses were more mixed and, eventually, secured an online distribution deal in the United States courtesy of Hulu. It hasn’t been given a UK or European release, but will hit DVD in April and by virtue of its wilful insanity, its poster and trailer are still well worth a look:
