The Associated Press is reporting that Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham will be the next Los Angeles Lakers coach.
The AP quoted someone “with knowledge of the decision” on the announcement. The report said Ham has accepted an offer, but did not reveal terms. He replaces Frank Vogel, who was fired at the end of the season after the Lakers failed to make the playoffs.
The 48-year-old Ham will become the 28th coach in Lakers history. He has never been a head coach, but was an assistant on the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018, including that team’s 2021 NBA title run. .
Last year’s Lakers team went 33-49, a major disappointment consider the team had aligned a “Big Three” by importing guard Russell Westbrook to join LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
James has already welcomed Ham via social media. “So damn Excited!!!!!!!!” James tweeted. “Congrats and welcome Coach DHam!!”

Chris Paul is going to bat for his teammate -- saying James Harden deserved to win Mvp over LeBron James ... but now, he needs to add an NBA title to his resume. "He's gonna get that too," CP3 told TMZ Sports on the way out of Catch ... "but he deserved the Mvp." [In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "The McCarthys" (CBS) The Pitch: "Ethnographically Specific Multi-Cam Family Comedy #432" Quick Response: When I did my Take Me To The Pilots on "The Goldbergs," I took the show to task a little bit for all of the shouting and Adam Goldberg told me on Twitter that his real family is just loud. I can't argue with that. Well, "The McCarthys" is a passion project for creator Brian Gallivan and it's at least semi-autobiographical, so who am I to say that his actual family isn't a loving hodgepodge of Boston Irish stereotypes and that family get-togethers don't become a non-stop stream of gay jokes that really might have been edgy and pushing the conversation forward in 1974, but seem stale and dated in 2014. And if Brian Gallivan says that, honest-to-goodness, he and his mother bond over their love of "The Good Wife," I can't say, "Lies, you've inserted at least three...

Kobe Bryant and Nike unveiled their newest collaboration, the Kobe 9 Elite ‘Masterpiece,’ a high top basketball shoe inspired by boxing shoes.

Kobe Bryant Designs Nike High-Top
The shoe was designed by Eric Avar with Bryant, and will not be available for purchase until February 2014 and marks a sudden departure from Bryant’s known favorite style: the low-top models he has designed for Nike in the last four years.
Many are speculating that Bryant is now leaning towards a high-top shoe due to his Achilles tendon injury, but Bryant and Avar deny the claim, saying that they began working on the shoe before Bryant’s injury over two years ago.
His injury did not play a role in the shoe at all. We started working on this 2 – 2 1/2 yrs ago. @nicksdot

The news wasn't made public at the time, but during the 2011 basketball season, former Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson disclosed to the team that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The revelation is something Jackson talks about in his new book, "11 Rings," due out May 21.
The information was made public through an article in the Orange County Register, a Southern California newspaper (via NBC Sports). Jackson waited until after the end of the season to undergo surgery, choosing to control the cancer temporarily with drugs. Jackson shared the diagnosis with his team because he felt they were "lacking something."
The news didn't help the Lakers, who were swept by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs. The Mavericks went on to win the championship. Lakers power forward Pau Gasol remembers the meeting, calling the news "shocking." However, he notes, "You also could understand certain moments of his demeanor,...

According to a new report, Los Angeles Lakers are not listening to Dwight Howard offers. It's being said that the basketball team has turned down repeated trade inquiries recently in the hopes that they will be able to re-sign him over the summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
"I don't think we're at the point where you say, 'It's time for a trade,' and a trade happens in three to four days. That's just not how this league works," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak tells Espn Los Angeles.
This statement comes after sources for Espn claim that "the Lakers might be forced to reconsider that position between now and the Feb. 21 trade deadline because of Howard's growing unhappiness with his role under coach Mike D'Antoni and the potential that raises for Howard leaving them in July without compensation." If Kupchak is to be believed, that won't be the case.

Any hope Lakers fans who have been missing TV games on Dish and DirecTV had that the third coming of coach Phil Jackson would provide the impetus to end the dispute with rights-holder Time Warner Cable has been quashed. Could Mike D'Antoni, the former New York Knicks coach hired instead of Jackson late Sunday night, get fans so excited the companies would be compelled to get the Lakers games back on TV to avert a public relations nightmare? No, he won't. But if it's any consolation, the hiring of Jackson probably wouldn't...

When the Los Angeles Lakers relieved Mike Brown of his coaching duties, the buzz was Phil Jackson was all but a shoe-in to return to the team. And so he wasn't the the only one surprised by the Lakers announcement they have hired Mike D'Antoni for the job.
Espn reports Jackson is "stunned" by the decision, having expected to re-join the team immediately, following a weekend of negotiations between his agent and Lakers reps.
In light of complications brought about by Jackson's triangle offense, however, a team spokesman says it was "unanimous that D'Antoni was the best coach for the team at this time."
There were rumors Jackson had asked for an eight-figure salary, flexibility to skip road games, and part ownership in the team. But a source tells Espn no salary figure was ever mentioned, and "Phil would come back only to win, and skipping games doesn't lead to winning.

For many an athlete, there is no greater honor than representing your country in an Olympics.
And success at one of these events can be a life-changing experience, in the form of professional contracts (assuming they're still amateurs), commercial endorsements and universal respect. Some can even wind up set for life off their performance during one 17-day span.
And nearly all of them will tell you their first time standing on the podium receiving their medal while their national anthem plays is an overwhelming experience, one that goes by like a blur.
