When done well, found footage horror makes for one of the most immersive and unnerving viewing experiences. The inherent naturalism tends to make the horror feel more plausible and real. Found footage horror doesn’t need a huge budget or recognizable names among the cast to induce chills, either, and the lo-fi visuals only further add to the scares.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to found footage horror movies that excel with the format, delivering unsettling atmosphere and scares while making the most of their immersive, lo-fi aesthetics. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

As every new month brings an insane tidal wave of new additions to streaming libraries, it can be tough selecting the perfect watch. Even more so when it comes to Tubi, a streaming platform with a vast, overwhelming selection of titles that include everything from mainstream releases to obscure deep cuts once trapped on VHS.
Because the streaming service excels so well at this with a layout that isn’t always the easiest to navigate when hunting down rare titles or finding the best horror movies on Tubi, we’re here to help.
For February, we’re narrowing it down to twenty horror movies you should watch, from recent gems to required viewing from horror masters. More specifically, this list avoids too many of the obvious classics, like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (also streaming on Tubi), to instead offer a wider variety slightly off the beaten path.

The character of Lina in The Conference, played by Katia Winter, is well-rounded, having a strong voice of her own. Her individuality makes her stand out from the rest of the people at her office. The actress is known for the significant roles she played in award-winning series like Dexter and Sleepy Hollow. Streaming on Netflix, the Swedish film has been directed by Patrik Eklund, and it is worth mentioning that even in a gore thriller, the director has been able to shape the character of the protagonist quite well. The Conference can be compared to other gore slasher films like Wrong Turn, Final Destination, The Babysitter, and others. Lina dares to question the injustice that her company has caused to a farmer and his family by uprooting from their land. This costs her some ugly stares from her colleagues. How she manages to find proof of the wrongdoing and...

The live-or-die situations of slasher movies typically center around young folks. It’s also common to see those threats occur in or around a school setting. So while most slashers have had a tendency to fixate on teenagers, the new Swedish movie The Conference refreshingly targets a group of adults. In this Scandi-flavored, hunt-and-kill story — one adapted from a novel written by Mats Strandberg — the would-be victims encounter danger during a work conference. However, no team-building exercise could have prepared them for what comes next.
Slasher enthusiasts will detect heavy notes of Christopher Smith’s Severance when watching this movie. Basic similarities aside, the eventual massacre in this story is a great deal more personal for the villain; the inevitable slaughter isn’t incidental. Yet even before the killer shows up, tensions are already running high in Patrik Eklund’s movie. These municipal employees’ work outing — really more of a...

"You can't run a conference facility without Wi-Fi." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Swedish slasher horror comedy called The Conference, made by Swedish filmmaker Patrik Eklund. It's debuting for streaming worldwide starting in October, which is the best time to launch a film like this, of course. What begins as team-building fun, descends into a nightmare as a mysterious masked killer begins stalking and picking off the participants one by one. A conference for municipal employees turns into a nightmare when accusations of corruption begin to circulate, and a strange figure starts murdering the attendees one-by-one. The Conference is a slasher comedy that is based on Mats Strandbergs book by the same name. Starring Eva Melander, Katia Winter, Adam Lundgren, Lola Zackow, and Christoffer Nordenrot. Looks like another fun spin on slashers, with most of the attendees being municipal schmucks it seems. Check this out. // Continue Reading...

Beta Film has dropped the trailer for “Estonia,” a Scandinavian limited series about Europe’s deadliest civil maritime disaster.
The eight-part cinematic show, which is represented in international markets by Jan Mojto’s Beta Film (“Babylon Berlin”), charts the sinking of the Ms Estonia on Sept. 28, 1994, which killed over 850 people.
The series is directed by Swedish director Måns Månsson and Finnish director Juuso Syrjä. While the sinking of the ship is an important part of the show, “Estonia” also spotlights the tentacular probe launched in the aftermath of the tragedy by the Joint Accident Investigation Committee established by Sweden, Estonia and Finland.
Showrunner Miikko Oikkonen, who co-wrote the series with Olli Suitiala and Tuomas Hakola, said that when he “started to read the final report and went through the material, (he) realized the investigation itself was even more interesting than the accident.”

‘The Boys’ Star Tomer Capone on Frenchie’s Little Nina Trauma and His ‘Soulmate’ Feelings for Kimiko
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed,” the July 1 episode of “The Boys.”
“The Boys” fans who have been shipping Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) for three seasons finally found out if the very dear friends will ever become something more with Friday’s second-to-last episode of the season. That’s bad news for… the whole world, probably. Plus, Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid) and the rest of the gang make an ill-advised deal with Little Nina (Katia Winter). Kendall Jenner’s infamous Pepsi ad gets a Vought remake. And Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles)? Yeah, he’s here, too. How? Let’s recap. First, Stan Edgar. The man’s “five-year plan” to get out of the supe business goes horribly wrong when he tells Neuman (Claudia Doumit) to call a press conference, “disciplining” and fining Homelander for using foul language during his birthday rant. Call the press conference, she does,...

Blood & Treasure Season 2 will finally see the light of day this summer, with a catch.
TV Line reported Tuesday morning that the CBS adventure drama is moving to Paramount+.
The series is set to return for its 13-part second season Sunday, July 17, with a two-episode bow.

Exclusive: Katia Winter (Blood & Treasure) has been cast in the upcoming third season of Amazon’s hit series The Boys, based on the bestselling comic by Ennis and Robertson.
No further details are being released but I hear Winter will recur, playing an infamous character from the comic books, Little Nina, a Russian mob boss with penchant for sex toys whose death ranks among the comics’ most shocking moments.
The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super-powerful as the Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets.
In the books, Little Nina works with Vought.

Director Eduardo Rodriguez has been, at least for me, something of a underrated talent. His first Hollywood movie, Stash House, was an effective action thriller and his follow-up, El Gringo, was a superb film and star-making vehicle for action star Scott Adkins. And – at least for me – his Fright Night sequel-c0me-remake was a decent entry in the franchise and one that I enjoyed more than the Colin Farrell iteration. So when I discovered his latest feature film, You’re Not Alone, was due out this week – after apparently being filmed in 2016 under the title Unwanted – I knew I had to check it out… And I’m glad I did.

A sort of “After Hours” update with a lot more drugs and time ellipses, “The Wave” throws Justin Long down a rabbit’s hole of sometimes hallucinatory, sometimes mortal peril when his button-down protagonist makes the mistake of celebrating a career breakthrough a little too adventurously. This surreal comedy from debuting feature director Gille Klabin and writer Carl W. Lucas offers a colorfully diverting ride that invokes the specter of everything from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” to “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
What it doesn’t quite have is the singularity of vision those and other movies had in putting their protagonists through some mind-expanding changes, whether induced psychedelically or supernaturally. This fever dream feels more derivative than distinctive, entertaining and eventful as it is. Still, it’s a well-cast, well-crafted stab at something offbeat that should find a modest but appreciative viewership in limited theatrical release (simultaneous with VOD launch) on Jan.

Let’s give Justin Long some overdue credit: few everyman actors actively choose to push the edges of their beta-dude personas. There’s always a need for ordinary guys in rom-coms and sitcoms, and Long could easily coast through them.
As often as not, though, he embraces eccentric efforts that remain under the radar, and surely don’t include a mainstream paycheck. Sometimes these risks are so bananas they become unforgettable, like 2014’s “Tusk,” in which Kevin Smith turned Long into a walrus. And sometimes, inevitably, they’re “The Wave.”
Even here, generous viewers might appreciate Long’s commitment to the unusual and unexpected. Through no fault of his, however, they will find both their loyalty and their patience considerably tested.

The first thing you need to know when entering director Gille Klabin and writer Carl W. Lucas’ The Wave is that it takes a lot of liberties. The second thing is that doing so doesn’t have to be a problem. So much of what happens on-screen is born from convenience and ultimately has no explanation (if it even needs one) before playing its long-term role within Frank’s (Justin Long) hallucinogenic nightmare of an adventure. Just because he might get a handle on what’s happening to manipulate the experience to his benefit (or at least his will) doesn’t mean he (or we) understand how beyond the notion that the implausible isn’t necessarily impossible when a creative strain of karmic retribution proves to be the goal. The sky’s the limit.

"We really don't know each other at all..." Signature Entertainment in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up. The title is a direct reference to a part of the plot, but it's also a bit too similar to 10 Things I Hate About You to be considered original. Christina Ricci plays Abigail, a single mother of two who meets a man named Ben at a bar. They jokingly come up with a list of things to do before their imagined breakup, knowingly full well they’ll never even start a relationship. But when the joke turns in to a one-night stand that brings a pregnancy, things gets a whole lot more complicated.
