The Walking Dead franchise has spawned multiple shows, comic series, and video games, each of which has been fairly popular in its own way. The Og show, starring Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira in the lead, went on for 11 seasons, before concluding in 2022.
Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
But did you know that the show was supposed to run for four more seasons with two characters taking the lead after the exit of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira? Lincoln’s Rick Grimes left after season 8, and Gurira’s Michonne made her exit in 10. While Reedus’ Daryl Dixon took the lead after Grimes left to join the Crm, he too was going to make his way out of the Twd universe. At this time, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan were supposed to take over.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 6
The first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City has spent a great deal of time developing some kind of bond between Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). It’s entirely one-sided, as this episode shows, with Negan doing everything he can to try and help Maggie get past the lingering trauma of Glenn’s death at his hand. Maggie couldn’t let it go in season 11 of The Walking Dead, and she cannot let it go now, even though Hershel (Logan Kim) is a teenager and she’s moved on from Hilltop and Alexandria. Hershel long ago let the urge to kill Negan go. Negan long ago atoned for the sins of his past (to most people he’s offended). However, Maggie can’t let it go.
Maggie isn’t Maggie Greene anymore.

“The Walking Dead” spinoffs “Dead City” and “Daryl Dixon” have both been renewed for second seasons at AMC.
The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. For “Dead City,” the renewal comes ahead of the first season finale on July 23. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in the series as Maggie and Negan respectively. “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” which stars Norman Reedus, is due to debut in September.
“This next chapter in the ‘Walking Dead’ Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for ‘Dead City’ and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We can’t wait to bring ‘Dead City’ fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 4
The idea that anyone could be too much of a psychopath for the Saviors is, honestly, hard to swallow. The first time we meet Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan on The Walking Dead, he introduces himself by bashing a couple of fan favorite characters to death. His chief lieutenant, Simon (Steven Ogg), is at least as bad as his boss. None of the Savior leadership were good people; at the time, the Saviors title seemed ironic. Now that Negan has been established a little better on The Walking Dead: Dead City, it’s easy to see just how things got so out of control. If Simon is the voice of reason, then things are too far gone to save.
It’s no wonder Maggie has such a grudge against The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) for taking her son.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is a thrilling spin-off of the popular zombie apocalypse series that takes place in New York City. The show follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan), two former enemies who have to work together to survive the horrors of the undead and the living.
Thus, far, the show delivers on its promise of action, suspense, drama and gore, while also exploring the complex relationship between the two protagonists. Maggie and Negan have a history of hatred and betrayal, but they also share a common goal of finding a safe place for their people. Making New York City the setting for The Walking Dead: Dead City is nothing if not a bold move. It’s such a familiar environment for anyone who watches movies or television; you might have never been to the five boroughs, but New York is one of the most iconic pop culture locations in media history. As such, there’s a lot of baggage to be brought along for the ride, but Dead City‘s first real look into The Walking Dead‘s version of the Big Apple seems to take that into account.

Picking up where a show left off should be old hat for the creative team behind The Walking Dead: Dead City. After all, The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead did that kind of thing all the time. Every few seasons, when there was a narrative need, they jumped forward in time, scrambled locations and places, and generally reset things as befitted the story they want to tell. As such, the new lives for Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) don’t feel jarring. We’ve already been through at least one or two Maggie reboots at this point; what’s another one?

As I continue to decompress after the recent onslaught of finales, it remains perplexing how quiet last fall’s conclusion to The Walking Dead was. Sure, the show was no longer a critical favorite or an audience juggernaut, but The Walking Dead spent years as one of the most discussed shows on all of television, only to lurch haltingly into the sunset.
Or maybe there was an instinct to devalue the ostensible series finale of The Walking Dead because AMC had already announced a bevy of upcoming spinoffs. What was the point in getting worked up about missing our favorite remaining grungy survivalists and the zombies who loved to eat them when we knew nobody was going to be gone for long?

AMC's The Walking Dead universe has been expanding quickly in recent years.
With the conclusion of the main series in 2022 after 11 seasons, many fans desired to continue the journeys of their favorite characters.
There were many reservations when Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were announced to be headlining The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Maggie and Negan's story ended bittersweetly as they both agreed to co-exist.
As a result, The Walking: Dead City's existence would probably kickstart one of the most polarizing alliances on TV.

Plot: Follows Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.

AMC continues to mine “The Walking Dead” to death. It has been nearly 13 years since the original series first aired, and yet none of its three spin-offs — soon to be four, plus an additional two in the works — have recaptured the magic of those early Rick Grimes-led seasons. After “The Last of Us” revived the prestige zombie genre with impressive quality and creativity earlier this year, AMC’s insistence on franchising continues to dilute the zombie drama du jour.
The latest spin-off, created and written by “The Walking Dead” producing veteran Eli Jorné, is not likely to convert any new fans. For viewers still slugging through the eighth season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” there are enough horror thrills in the six-episode season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” to keep you watching and even raise an eyebrow, particularly if you’re already invested in the rich dynamic between...

"The Walking Dead: Dead City" has a major hurdle to overcome in terms of presenting a story audiences will believe. It's not the zombie apocalypse that'll be hard for people to buy into, but something even less likely -- a team-up between flagship series fan favorite Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and the man who brutally killed her husband: Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Viewers who tuned out of "The Walking Dead" before the long-running AMC show said farewell last year were surprised to read the logline of the new spin-off, which is set to follow Maggie and Negan as they travel through a zombie-infested New York City. The pair have shared screen time since Negan took a baseball bat to Glenn's (Steven Yeun) head, sure, but despite Negan's relative redemption, they never fully hashed out the unforgivable act that defined their relationship.

It seems like just last year the The Walking Dead came to an end. That’s probably because it was only just last year that The Walking Dead‘s flagship series concluded for good with its 11th season finale.
But, like any good zombie, The Walking Dead can’t truly die. The end of the series based on Robert Kirkman’s beloved comics is just the beginning of its many spinoffs. Among those spinoffs are the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead, the untitled Rick and Michonne continuation, and the The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Also queued up for the franchise, however, will be a series that combines two of the show’s unlikeliest heroes: Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
The Manhattan-set Maggie and Negan adventure, The Walking Dead: Dead City is set to premiere Sunday, June 18 at 10 p.m. Et on AMC.

The zombie kill count is predictably sky-high in the newest trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, which sees Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising their roles from the flagship series to navigate a post-apocalyptic New York City.
“How do we find our way out?” Maggie Greene, played by Cohan, asks as she surveys the mean streets of Manhattan, cut off from the mainland as she and Negan (Morgan) go on a mission to rescue her kidnapped son.
The teaser trailer — which is accompanied by the punk rock track “Gimme Danger,” performed by Iggy & The Stooges — is filled with the usual undead denizens of a crumbling city as The Walking Dead universe soldiers. The sequel also stars Gaius Charles and Zeljko Ivanek.
“How do I figure into this, Maggie?” an exasperated Negan asks at one point. Eli Jorné, who has been a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons,...

By now we all know that nothing can stop a zombie apocalypse, not even the series finale of "The Walking Dead." The main show may be over after a whopping 11-season run, but the spin-offs are flying fast and furious and the next one up just got a brand new, full-length trailer.
I myself fell off of "The Walking Dead" wagon shortly after Negan was introduced and haven't kept up with it since somewhere around the middle of season 7, but it's unquestionable that "The Walking Dead" is a franchise that fosters a huge fandom. The cast and crew still pack huge halls at conventions and the memes just won't stop making their way onto my For You pages.

“The Walking Dead” takes a bite out of the Big Apple in spinoff series “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” and the brand new full official trailer was debuted by AMC this afternoon.
Watch the official trailer below, which previews the brand new New York City setting while clearly establishing the storyline. Maggie and Negan are forced into an unlikely alliance when a sadistic villain from Negan’s past emerges, kidnapping Maggie’s son. And as they traverse a hellish NYC together, it looks like the duo will be encountering all kinds of new mutant walkers.
Coming from someone who’s been pretty tuned out of all things “The Walking Dead” for a couple years now, “Dead City” looks like the fresh shot of life I’ve been waiting for.

Keep your enemies close.
That’s the tagline for the AMC’s new post-apocalyptic drama titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The series stars two “Walking Dead” alums with no love lost between them: Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Fans of the original series won’t forget when Negan murdered Maggie’s husband (Steve Yeun) in front of her by pulverizing his head with a baseball bat. At least a decade has since passed, but Maggie will never forgive and forget.
Negan’s a survivalist though, and the unlikely duo head to New York City in the new series. The logline reads:

In the trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City that AMC released Thursday, the Big Apple looks as likely to take a bite out of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan as the other way around. Not only do he and frenemy Maggie (Lauren Cohan) have zombified Manhattanites nipping at their heels, but the baddie who kidnapped her and her late husband Glenn’s son Hershel has, let’s say, a past with the Saviors’ former leader.

There’s more zombies coming to AMC and this time they’re falling from the sky.
That’s certainly the message from The Walking Dead: Dead City’s teaser trailer that AMC has unveiled as it finally set a premiere date for its spinoff series.
The show, which was originally set to air in the spring, will premiere on Sunday June 18 at 10pm Et. It will air on AMC and AMC+. Subsequent episodes will move to the 9pm Et timeslot.
It comes as stars Lauren Cohan and Gaius Charles, along with showrunner Eli Jorné, were on a panel at the WonderCon event in California.
Jorné explained what the new show has to offer both loyal fans of The Walking Dead and newcomers.
“It’s The Walking Dead like we’ve never seen it before. We haven’t really lived in a city like this.” Jorné said. “It’s The Walking Dead...

While the very short teaser trailer (embedded above) for the upcoming spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City simply says the show is “coming soon”, we’ve known for a while now that the show is expected to premiere sometime in June 2023. One of several upcoming spinoffs from the main series is “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” which is set in New York City and will be premiering on AMC sometime in June 2023.
While you wait, check out a brand new teaser spot from AMC below. This footage makes clear the premise of the spinoff series, explaining why Maggie is now working with Negan.
“Dead City” is centered on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), two characters who have long been at odds with one another. In the main show’s most shocking moment, Negan of course brutally murdered Maggie’s husband Glenn, but the two have surprisingly been able to work together in the wake of Negan becoming one of the good guys.
Up next, they’re traveling to New York City together…
“Walking Dead: Dead City sees Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland.

What is dead may never die — wait, wrong franchise. Anyway, AMC's "The Walking Dead" might be as dead as a Walker, but the network's larger zombie universe is still very much shambling along. Just over half a year after its mother show wrapped up in November 2022, the property is coming back with "The Waking Dead: Dead City," a six-part spinoff mini-series that will follow Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on a new adventure to Manhattan to rescue Maggie's kidnapped son, Hershel, from a mysterious figure in the form of Željko Ivanek's "The Croat."
Maggie and Negan, as everybody knows, are the best of friends and there's absolutely nothing in the way of bad blood between those two, so no doubt this rescue operation will be perfectly easy and drama-free. You can get a sneak peek at the duo's relaxing trip to the Big...

While it's true that "The Walking Dead" has officially wrapped up its 11-season run on AMC, the universe is, in many ways, just beginning. The network had already expanded the franchise with the long-running "Fear the Walking Dead," as well as the relatively short-lived "Walking Dead: World Beyond." So, what's next for the zombie-filled universe? A brand new spin-off that will feature a couple of returning favorites for a brand new adventure. This time, in the Big Apple!
Originally announced as "Isle of the Dead," AMC's next show based on the Image Comics series by Robert Kirkman is titled "Dead City" and will see the return of both Maggie and Negan. Yes, Maggie has a lot of beef with Negan,...
