"There's too many of 'em." "It's just more targets..." Goldwyn Films has revealed their trailer for Calamity Jane, a western thriller arriving to watch in February. Currently set for release on VOD in about a week from now. After Wild Bill is killed in a poker game, Calamity Jane must break out of prison and seek revenge before the Deadwood's Sheriff can arrest them. Not to be confused with the actual classic western also called Calamity Jane from 1953 starring Doris Day. Directed by Terry Miles, Calamity Jane reunites Arrow co-stars Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell, who star alongside Tim Rozon, Priscilla Faia, Gage Marsh, Garrett Black, Christian Sloan, Troy Mundle, and Spencer Borgeson. I will say that, sure, Emily looks pretty badass in it as a gun-slingin' Calamity Jane, though the rest of the film looks pretty bad. // Continue Reading ›...

Sneak Peek images and footage from writer/director Terry Miles' new 'dramady' feature "Cinemanovels", starring Lauren Lee Smith and Jennifer Beals:
"...'Grace' (Smith) had not spoken to her recently deceased father, the fabled Québécois filmmaker 'John Laurentian', in years. So even she's surprised when, on a trip to pick up some of his belongings, she offers to help put together a retrospective of his work.
"Not only has she not seen any of it (their rift was spectacularly traumatic), she knows nothing about curating. She's also a shut-in who rarely ventures outside the condo she shares with her husband, 'Ben' (Ben Cotton). Grace struggles along fitfully, dozing off while watching her father's movies (all of them involving love triangles), and discussing her inertia with her confidante, 'Clem' (Beals).
"Then she meets 'Adam' (Kett Turton), a neighbour who's an expert on all things Laurentian and offers to help her out.

The F Word is also Daniel Radfliffe's third film in the fest after Horns from Alexandre Aja and Kill Your Darlings. F Word centers on Wallace (Radfliffe) who meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) and it would be love at first sight, except she lives with her long-term boyfriend. Professional wrestling is as much a performance art as it is a sport, with combatants required to inhabit a persona as well as master a series of intricate wrestling moves. As a result, there have been a series of wrestlers over the past few decades that have tried to make the leap into acting. For a long time Hulk Hogan was the only one who could claim, limited, mainstream success with Suburban Commando and Mr Nanny hitting the heights in the early nineties. Since then, sporadic attempts to cross over have been stillborn, until The Rock left the WWE to pursue a full-time acting career nearly ten years ago. He has put in the time, and become the first wrestler to make it as a bona fide movie star.
This success has, inevitably, opened the floodgates. On paper, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin had a pretty good shot at following in The Rock’s footsteps.

A bunch of updates today, most of which were supposed to go up over the weekend:
There is a new BSG site in town: Battlestar Galactica Filming Locations. It's a pretty thorough guide to all the places seen in the show's four seasons and two films, and very handy for anyone planning a trip to Vancouver, along with Visit Caprica. Check it out at BattlestarLocations.com.
On TV tonight: Richard Harmon tweets that his episode of Clue airs tonight. That's 8 pm Et on the Hub TV Network. You can watch the series trailer on YouTube.
Yesterday's episode of Glee, "Mash Off," was directed by Eric Stoltz. Fox has released a couple of new behind-the-scenes clips today (embedded & linked below).
Shoot Online reported earlier this week that Eric has joined the production and design studio The Department of The 4th Dimension full time and has at least one project in development.

Despite throwing Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson at the problem, Marvel has yet to find real success with a Punisher movie. So, it should come as no surprise that Nasser Group North and Caliber Media Co. are attempting to fill the void with their flick Recoil.
The movie stars "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as an ex-cop whose family is murdered by the mob, and then sets out for vengeance. One might say that he's looking to punish those responsible. Meanwhile, Danny Trejo will play a criminal who has his sights set on Austin's character, and will more than likely call his rival "ese," "cabron" or if we're very lucky, both.
Who else thinks they should put a wig on Austin for this role?

Remember the Stunning Steve Austin, a Texan pro wrestler in the late-80s. Well, he and La Tortuga Danny Trejo, who spent much of the 1960s in California prisons, are finally mixing their powers for the indie action movie titled just Recoil.
John Sullivan, who wrote the horror Fear of the Dark, penned the script for this actioner directed by Terry Miles, who is currently developing thriller Timelock acquired by Im Global.
Jim Harvey of Studio City Pictures will be at Cannes seeking distribution for Recoil.
Austin, who played Dan Paine in The Expendables will portray an ex-cop who’s life is ripped apart when his family is viciously murdered. He then makes it his life’s passion to find those responsible and serve up his own kind of justice. Trejo portrays a cold-hearted killer who is seeking his own vengeance against the ex-cop over the murder of his brother...

The Tom Hanks company Playtone is putting together Game Change, in which Julianne Moore will play [1] Sarah Palin under the direction of Jay Roach (Austin Powers). The film follows the 2008 Presidential election, and Ed Harris plays [2] John McCain. Now Ron Livingston has been cast as Mark Wallace, senior advisor to the McCain-Palin ticket. In other words, he gets to play the guy who coached Sarah Palin for her debates, and so his scenes with Julianne Moore could be gold. And, no, this movie is not a comedy. At least, I don't think it is. [Deadline [3]] Next up is casting for an action/revenge film called Recoil. These two casting announcements couldn't be more different, but how great would it be to combine them into one film? Anyway, more Recoil news after the break. Recoil sounds like it should be a Sylvester Stallone picture. Instead it will star Steve Austin and Danny Trejo...

Man, Austin loves beating up on 80s action stars, huh? First, he smacks around Stallone in The Expendables. Soon he’ll whup up on Dolph Lundgren in The Package (here). And now, he’s going one-on-one with Machete himself, Danny Trejo in Recoil.
The film is being directed by Terry Miles and written by the Dtv Prophecy sequels scribe, John Sullivan. The plot to this potential bad-ass showdown: “After the murder of his family, former cop John Varrett goes vigilante in order to find the criminals that have slipped through the system and exercise his own brand of ruthless justice.” Guess who plays who.
The film will look for buyers soon at the Cannes Film Market.

The Vancouver International Film Festival is my baby. In its 29th year, this is the event I look forward to every year. The lists I've kept through the year come out and I eagerly look through the list of titles in search of those little gems and every year Viff responds with a huge assortment of titles. This year's festival is no different.
Some of the titles we're most eagerly anticipating include Tsumetai Nettaigyo’s Cold Fish (trailer), Gareth Edwards’ Monsters (trailer, review), Jo Sung-Hee’s apocalyptic road movie End of Animal, Carl Bessai’s Repeaters (trailer) and Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats (trailer, review).
There's loads more so be sure to check the titles (so far) after the break. Many more to be announced in the coming days.

Rachel Weisz in The Whistleblower The Toronto International Film Festival has added even more films to their line-up today as the complete line-up was announced, which ended up causing the festival's server to crash, but I was lucky enough to get in and get out before missing out on the information.
First off, the festival's Mavericks line-up is quite interesting, which includes a series of guest presentations and this year will see Edward Norton interview Bruce Springsteen, NBA All-Star and native Canadian Steve Nash will present his hour-long film Into the Wind, Apichatpong Weerasethakul will talk with the audience as his Cannes Palm d'Or-winning film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall his Past Lives was just added to the Masters programme, Ken Loach and Paul Laverty will be interviewed by Michael Moore on politics and cinema and Philip Seymour Hoffman will have his own panel. The sophomore film from the director of Ex Drummer, Swedish thriller Bad Faith, Pablo Trapero's Carancho (my personal favorite film from Cannes 2010), Tsui Hark's Detective Dee, Tom Tykwer's Three and a host of others populate one of the more exciting lineups for the Tiff Contemporary World Cinema Program in recent years. Here's the complete lineup:
22nd of May Koen Mortier, Belgium World Premiere
The director of Ex-Drummer returns with an artful meditation on political violence. A security guard fails to prevent a horrific explosion in a shopping mall, then lives through the aftermath as a series of overlapping what-ifs.
Africa United Debs Gardner-Paterson, United Kingdom World Premiere
Africa United tells the extraordinary story of three Rwandan children and their bid to achieve their lifelong dream - to take part in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Football World Cup in Johannesburg.

The organizers at the Toronto International Film Festival have put together one hell of an impressive line-up that has grown significantly since my first list announcing the Galas and Special Presentations, a pair of lists that have also grown since then.
The lists have grown to include Massy Tadjedin's Last Night starring Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet, which will serve as the closing night film.
It's also grown to include Danny Boyle's 127 Hours starring James Franco. Boyle recently spoke about the film at Movie Con and told the audience there it may be a challenge to watch saying, "It's a lovely way of doing a new kind of filmmaking, really. We want it to be a challenge to you [the audience] to see if you can sit and watch it."

Toronto -- Look for American talent to light up Canadian acquisition titles at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
As Canadian indie movies increasingly cast Hollywood stars as boxoffice draws, Toronto organizers on Tuesday unveiled a Canuck movie lineup dominated by imported stars performing alongside local talent.
Toronto booked a gala slot at Roy Thomson Hall for Jonathan Sobol's "A Beginners Guide to Endings," which stars Harvey Keitel, Scott Caan and Wendy Crewson, and a world premiere for Jacob Tierney's "Good Neighbours," a Montreal-set thriller that stars Scott Speedman, Emily Hampshire and Jay Baruchel.
U.S. and other foreign talent figures in the mix for "A Night for Dying Tigers," the Terry Miles drama starring Jennifer Beals and Gil Bellows, while another Canuck drama, Ed Gass-Donnelly's "Small Town Murder Songs," is top-lined by Swedish actor Peter Stormare, Jill Hennessy ("Law and Order"), Aaron Poole and Martha Plimpton.

The Toronto Int Film Festival have added tons of Canadian content sprawling across several sections and this year's Midnight Madness opener will be a rowdy one in Michael Dowse's Fubar II. Among the notable world premieres we have Jonathan Sobol's A Beginners Guide to Endings grabing a Gala screening and in the Special Presentations we'll have a green carpet premiere for Sturla Gunnarsson's Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie - she follows the 75 year-old environmentalist during his time outs, and Jacob Tierney will make it a back to back years of preeming at Tiff, after The Trotsky he'll show off Good Neighbours which stars Scott Speedman, Emily Hampshire and Jay Baruchel. Other world preems come from Carl Bessai, Bruce McDonald, Robin Aubert, Ingrid Veninger and Terry Miles, while French Canada is well-repped by the likes of films that have been presented elsewhere: Denis Villeneuve's...

The 16th annual Bradford International Film Festival, which will run March 18-28, is a total celebration of all forms of cinema, from classic films to modern world cinema to a tribute to Cinerama and more. But, most excitingly, is a bombastic collection of some of the best, most exciting underground films being made today.
From Bad Lit’s perspective, the most thrilling screening of the entire 10-day affair is the new film by British filmmaker Peter Whitehead, Terrorism Considered as One of the Fine Arts. In the U.S., Whitehead is a “lost” filmmaker from the underground’s heyday in the ’60s, being left out of most histories of the underground movement. Whitehead directed several influential films, including Wholly Communion and The Fall, before dropping out of filmmaking in the mid-’70s.
Film historian Jack Sargeant wrote extensively about and interviewed Whitehead for his wonderful book on Beat cinema, Naked Lens.

For this week, Telefilm Canada had announced the 27 films that it will support for 2010. Among these films, 17 will be in English. Of course, rest assured: some of the films will have a commercial nature and some will be low-budget independent films. The following is the list of films.
Beat the World (Ontario & Nunavut Region; Btw Productions Inc.; Executive Producers: Alfons Adetuyi, Amos Adetuyi and Robert Adetuyi; Writer/Director: Robert Adetuyi; Distributor: E1 Films Canada Inc.; Telefilm investment: $3.2 million) takes a look at three dance crews - one Latin American, one European and one from Windsor, Ontario – as they prepare to do battle at the international Beat the World competition in Detroit. Along the way, they struggle with personal issues ranging from gambling debt, bad break-ups and their own egos. Last year I wrote two reviews in which I gauged some of the problems inherent to the web series format. Cataclysmo and the Time Boys could have been a fun little exercise in sci-fi camp if it didn’t have all the episodic time in the world to keep meandering into wearying nonsense. Artifact, on the other hand, needlessly apes big-budget film and TV dramatic intrigue with limited financial means, and the results are painful. Perhaps its issues aren’t entirely endemic to its format - countless indie features do the same sort of derivative thing - but it doesn’t seem like having the ability to parcel out its action in bit-sized samples would at all help it to achieve awareness of its insufferable self-seriousness. Canadian web series The Ennead possesses both of these fatal flaws. As written, directed, and produced by Terry Miles (who’s also behind the...

Terry Miles's latest project, 26-episode thriller web series The Ennead, starts out with five people waking up in a forest with assorted objects in their pockets and absolutely no memory of how any of them got there - or pretty much anything else, for that matter. If this were Miles's other recent project, AdMuse, you might think it was a result of some kind of crazy office party. In The Ennead, however, all we know is that these five are part of some sort of ages-long secret battle over the fate of the world. Casey Manderson of AdMuse is back as nerdy-cute "Cats", model/dancer/actress; Melissa Kelly plays Flick, Candace Chase is "Nova", Renee St. Cyr (not the 1900s French actress) is Teeth, Chanel Taylor (not to be confused with porn starlet Taylor Chanel) plays Princess, and The Captain is played by Steve Thackray.

Office comedy tends to focus on making the everyday mundane funny - see everything from Dilbert and Office Space to The Office. It's perfectly natural, of course; they just take the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of office life and stretch it just a little bit further than they normally go, with generally hilarious results. The first episode of AdMuse, created by writer-director-editor-cameraman Terry Miles, quickly establishes that day-to-day-office humor is exactly what AdMuse is not. Over the course of five minutes, copywriter Brickman Mordecai (Casey Manderson) finds friction with creative director Sandra Smith (Michelle Miazga) over an advertisement spot starring tall blonde bikini-clad junior copywriter Jeannie Evans (Kristine Cofsky) for Stuff-It Brand Caulking. "Caulk," purrs Jeannie, and the text overlay simply says "Caulk: Because It's A Verb".
